Background: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a common reason for patients to present at dental offices. The majority of people with TMD are women between the age of 20 and 40 years. The purpose of this study was to assess the types and prevalence of temporomandibular disorders in female patients of reproductive age with menstrual disorders. Materials and methods: The study involved 65 females of reproductive age (18–40 years, an average of 28.00 ± 6.27 years). The women who qualified for the study were patients of the University Center for Maternal and Newborn’s Health hospitalized because of infertility or menstrual cycle disorders. Women with confirmed estrogen metabolism disorders participated in a clinical study with the use of Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD). Results: In the studied female patients with menstrual disorders, temporomandibular disorders (92.3%) were frequent occurrences. The most common type was intra-articular joint disorders (68%). Other reported complaints included masticatory muscle pain (44.62%), and degenerative joint diseases (12.3%). Conclusions: 1. In women with menstrual disorders, TMD may exist. 2. In women with TMD symptoms, their medical history should be extended to include the diagnosis of female hormone disorders.

The objective: to study the clinical efficacy of two schemes of using the monocomponent herbal preparation Cyclodynon® in women of reproductive age with complaints of various menstrual cycle disorders diagnosed with latent hyperprolactinemia and second phase failure of the menstrual cycle based on the results of clinical and hormonal studies. Materials and methods. The study included 60 patients aged 25–38 years suffering from PMS. The main group (n = 30) received Cyclodynon® in an ascending pattern: from 1 to the 14th day of the menstrual cycle – 40 drops 1 time a day and from the 15th day to the end of the cycle – 40 drops 2 times a day. The control group (n = 30) – 40 drops 1 time per day until the end of the cycle for three menstrual cycles. Results. After 3 months in the main group there was a more significant decrease in the level of prolactin (from 28.3 to 18.4 ng / ml) as compared with the control (from 27.8 to 23.1 ng / ml). Increased progesterone and estradiol production was also more significantly observed in the main group. The dynamics of normalization of the duration of the menstrual cycle and the volume of blood loss was also more significant in the main group and amounted to 93.3%. Conclusion. The use of an increasing treatment regimen with Cyclodynon® in women with a luteal phase deficiency on the background of hyperprolactinemia has advantages over the use of a standard continuous regimen with respect to a more rapid normalization of hormonal homeostasis, the duration of the menstrual cycle and blood loss. Key words: luteal phase deficiency, hyperprolactinemia, menstrual disorders, Cyclodynon®.

Introduction Toxoplasmosis is an acute infectious anthropozoonotic disease with mild asymptomatic clinical manifestations in immunocompetent persons and more severe in immunocompromised patients. Acute infection in pregnancy can result in severe congenital toxoplasmosis with severe sequels. Objective Aims of study were to detect Toxoplasma gondii seroprevalence in general population of Vojvodina, Serbia, differences between genders and determination of seroprevalence in women of reproductive age and pregnant women. Methods Our retrospective study was conducted from 2006 to 2008 including 625 immunocompetent patients, hospitalized or observed as outpatients at the Clinical Centre of Vojvodina, Novi Sad. We performed commercial ELISA kits SERION - ELISA classic test by VIRION for the presence of specific IgG and IgM antibodies. According to seroepidemiological aim of the study, our results were presented only in qualitative values. Results We observed 173 male and 452 female patients. Seroprevalence in general population of Vojvodina was 38.1%. In male population seroprevalence was 45.7%, and in female population it was 35.2%, the difference which was statistically significant (p<0.05). Seroprevalence increased with age and seroconversion was detected to occur in persons aged about 20 years. In all female patients, 353 (78.1%) were in reproductive age with seroprevalence of 30%. In 161 pregnant women seroprevalence was 31.7%. Conclusion In this study we screened actual seroepidemiological situation to Toxoplasma gondii in Vojvodina, thus giving a contribution to the continuous epidemiological screening done in this region and in the country. According to our results, almost 70% of women in reproductive age were sensitive to primary acute infection during further pregnancies, which is highly important for the prevention of congenital toxoplasmosis. Although not routinely conducted in many countries, routine serological testing to Toxoplasma gondii in pregnant women and their education about preventive measures against this infection could be an effective measure in the future.

Malaria is, along with tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, one of the three most dangerous infectious diseases in the world. In the absence of native cases since 1963, malaria has remained in Poland an exclusively imported disease, mainly occurring in people travelling to tropical and subtropical areas for professional reasons. The aim of this study was the epidemiological and clinical analysis of 82 patients admitted to the University Center for Maritime and Tropical Medicine (UCMTM), Gdynia, Poland, with a diagnosis of malaria between 2002 and 2014. The “typical” patient with malaria was male, middle-aged, returned from Africa within the preceding 4 weeks, had not used appropriate chemoprophylaxis, and had not applied nonpharmacological methods of prophylaxis, except for window insect screens.P. falciparumwas the most frequent species. The most common symptoms included fever, shivers and intensive sweating, thrombocytopenia, elevated creatinine, LDH, D-dimers and CRP, hepatomegaly, and splenomegaly. Within the analyzed group, severe malaria according to WHO standards was diagnosed in 20.7% of patients. Our report presents analysis of the largest series of patients treated for imported malaria in Poland.

The purpose of this study is to present a diagnosis of the level of development of the informational and digital competencies that the postgraduate students of the University Center of the North (CUNorte) possess. These two variables of Information Literacy are evaluated through a questionnaire organized in five dimensions: capacity, access, evaluation and use of information; and basic notions in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The results show evidence of some of the competencies acquired by students and graduates of postgraduate courses, however there are opportunities to strengthen their disciplinary development and facilitate their research processes. The answers provided by the students and their consecutive analysis highlight the need to complement the diagnosis using other techniques to assess the knowledge and skills that make up the informational and digital competencies whose development is evaluated. Regarding the contribution of the study, considering the factor analysis of the component matrix rotated in the instrument, it is summarized that it is feasible to develop a diploma that provides the necessary tools to enrich the aforementioned competencies.
