The prevalence of poor sleep quality among students is very high and, in nursing students, has been associated with reduced performance, behavioral changes, dietary changes, and even aggressive behavior due to changes in sleep patterns. The lockdown in response to COVID-19 may have resulted in lifestyle changes that affected sleep quality. For this reason, the objective of this study is to determine the difference in nursing students’ sleep quality before and during the lockdown, put in place in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. To meet this objective, we conducted a longitudinal observational study on 207 nursing students, with two cut-off points (February and April). The main dependent variable was sleep quality, measured using the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and its seven components. Parametric and nonparametric tests were used for paired and unpaired data, as well as group-stratified analysis. The mean time students spent in bed was 7.6 h (standard deviation (SD) = 1.1 h) before lockdown and 8.5 h (SD = 1.2 h) during lockdown. The PSQI score got 0.91 points worse during lockdown (95% CI, −0.51, −1.31). Of the five components, five were statistically significantly affected (p ≤ 0.05), and of these, the most changed were sleep latency, sleep duration, and sleep efficiency. When stratified by group, we observed differences in women, first-year students, second-year students, alcohol consumers, those of normal weight, and those that live with family. The main conclusion is that although students spent more time in bed, overall sleep quality was worse during lockdown, as well as being worse in five of the seven components.

Objective: to determine lifestyle changes, such as physical activity, nutrition, and sleep in an Argentinean university population, caused by confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Cross-sectional study via web survey. 1021 the Argentinean university population (women, n = 645 and men, n = 376) aged between 18–70 years old was participate. Survey was utilized to measure participant physical activity behavior, nutrition, and sleep April to May 2020. Results: the main findings revealed that 4.3% of the sample showed obesity; the highest proportion of the sample stayed more than 6 hours in a sedentary status; 21.74% reported bad sleep quality; a reduction in good feeding pattern; and an increase in subjects who do not perform physical activity. According to socio-demographic and anthropometric factors, being a student (OR 2.19, CI95% 1.18 - 4, p= .012), overweight (OR 1.71, CI95% 1.19 – 2.44, p= .003), obesity (OR 4.45, CI95% 2.27 – 8.7, p< .001), and have been confined more than 45 days was associated with bad feeding. Likewise, low physical activity levels were associated with obesity (OR 3.2 CI95% 1.66 – 6.18, p= .001), being female (OR 1.61, CI95% 1.14 –2.28, p= .006) and get married (OR 1.72, CI95% 1.14 – 2.61, p= .009). Moreover, being a student was associated with poor sleep quality (OR 43.6, CI95%5.4 – 350, p< .001). Conclusion: This study suggests that confinement decreased healthy living habits such as good nutrition and physical activity and affected the quality of sleep in young subjects.  Resumen. Objetivo: determinar los cambios en el estilo de vida, como la actividad física, la nutrición y el sueño en una población universitaria argentina, causados por el confinamiento durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Métodos: Estudio transversal mediante encuesta por Internet. Participaron 1021 personas de la población universitaria argentina (mujeres, n = 645 y hombres, n = 376) de entre 18 y 70 años de edad. La encuesta fue utilizada para medir el comportamiento de la actividad física, la nutrición y el sueño de los participantes de abril a mayo de 2020.Resultados: los principales hallazgos mostraron que el 4,3% de la muestra presentaba obesidad; la mayor proporción de la muestra permaneció más de 6 horas en estado sedentario; el 21,74% informó sobre la mala calidad del sueño; una reducción de los hábitos correctos de alimentación; y un aumento de los participantes que no realizan actividad física. Conclusión: Este estudio sugiere que el confinamiento disminuyó los hábitos de vida saludables como la buena nutrición, la actividad física, y afectó la calidad del sueño en sujetos jóvenes.

Abstract Objectives We investigated the associations between health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and health, pain and lifestyle factors, as well as motivation for lifestyle changes, in adults living with chronic pain referred to a Danish pain centre. Methods A total of 144 outpatients completed a questionnaire on HRQoL (EQ-5D-5L), health, pain, lifestyle factors (Body Mass Index [BMI], physical activity, smoking, alcohol, physical fitness, eating, sleep and stress) and motivation for lifestyle changes. We used multiple linear regression analyses to assess associations between HRQoL and the independent variables. Results The participants (age mean 50 years, 81% females) had ≥2 body pain sites (93%), BMI≥25 (64%), sedentary lifestyle (43%) and multiple (n≥2) elevated metabolic risk factors (58%). Most considered lifestyle important for HRQoL (72%) and expressed moderate to very high motivation for changing lifestyle (92%). Poorer HRQoL in the study population was significantly associated with higher pain intensity in the most painful body site (β=−0.316, p=0.001) and very poor sleep quality (β=−0.410, p=0.024). Serious-to-extreme problems in usual activities were associated with significantly poorer health (β=−0.328, p=0.030). Conclusions Adults living with chronic pain participating in this survey had significantly lower self-evaluated HRQoL than the general population. Lower HRQoL was significantly associated with greater pain intensity and poor sleep quality. Serious-to-extreme problems in usual activities, such as work, study, housework, family and leisure, were associated with poorer self-evaluated health. We observed high frequencies of overweight, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, pain in multiple body sites and multiple lifestyle-related risk factors in the study population. Most participants felt motivated for changing lifestyle. Further interventions addressing pain alleviation, sleep quality, prevention of problems in usual activities and promotion of healthy lifestyle, e.g. physical activity and healthy eating, are needed to estimate the effect of a lifestyle-oriented approach on health and quality of life in people living with chronic pain. ObjectivesLow activity and long rest times are frequent in patients with schizophrenia and are related to increased risk for metabolic disorder. We investigated whether patients who were switched from sedative antipsychotics to sertindole, an antipsychotic drug without sedative effect, were more active than patients with good tolerance to sedative effect of olanzapine.Methods18 patients with schizophrenia treated with sertindole (9 females, mean age 27.9 ± 4,1, mean dose 15.6 ± 3.0 mg/d) and 18 sex and age matched patients treated with olanzapine (mean dose 15.3 ± 6.5 mg/d) underwent actigraphy for seven days. Daytime sleepiness and sleep quality were evaluated with Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Athens insomnia scale (AIS) and sleep diaries. PANSS, UKU, BARS scales were used to rate mental state and medication side effects.ResultsAt the time of the assessment PANNS score was similar in sertindole (43.6 ± 7.1) and olanzapine (42.3 ± 12.2) groups. The difference in time in bed as measured by actigraphy was not significant between patients treated with sertindole (572.7 ± 54.8 min.) and olanzapine (600.6 ± 53.6 min.). Also mean 24-h-activity was comparable in both groups (86.6 ± 29.6 and 81.6 ± 27.9 units, respectively). There were not any significant differences in AIS and ESS scales.ConclusionsAlthough sertindole does not induce sedation, patients who were switched from sedative antipsychotics to sertindole were not more active than patients treated with olanzapine. Adjustment of pharmacological treatment has to be supplemented with non-pharmacological interventions to promote activity in patients with schizophrenia.

Objective: to evaluate the association of the burnout syndrome with daytime sleepiness and sleep quality among technical-level Nursing students. Method: a cross-sectional, analytical and quantitative study, conducted with 213 students from four technical Nursing courses in a city of Paraná, Brazil. Data collection was carried out using an instrument containing characterization information, the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Student Survey, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and logistic regression. Results: the prevalence values of the burnout syndrome, excessive daytime sleepiness and poor sleep quality were 4.7%, 34.7% and 58.7%, respectively. Excessive daytime sleepiness significantly increased the chances of high emotional exhaustion (ORadj: 5.714; p<0.001) and high depersonalization (ORadj: 4.259; p<0.001). Poor sleep quality, especially sleep disorders, was associated with all dimensions of the syndrome (p<0.05). Conclusion: high levels of the burnout syndrome dimensions were associated with excessive daytime sleepiness and poor sleep quality. Educational institutions should include sleep hygiene and psychosocial support in their student health promotion programs.

Introduction: Corona Virus Disease-19 (COVID-19) has spread to 34 provinces in Indonesia. Indonesia first confirmed the case of COVID-19 in March 2020. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has made the teaching and learning process shifted to distance teaching. This activity-limiting measure in response to curbing the spread of COVID-19 has caused an unprecedented change in human behavior around the world. One of the changes in human behavior is sleep. Sleep is a physiological process that is highly dependent on the environment and social and varies greatly with stress levels. This study aimed to know the characteristics of sleep quality of nursing students during pandemic Covid-19 in Bali. Methods: This study is a descriptive study using univariate analysis. The population in this study is approximately 1,500 nursing students. Sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling with 422 sample. Data collection tools in the form of questionnaires that are used is a sleep quality questionnaire from the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results: The results show that most of the nursing students’ age ranged from 15-25 (94.1%), female (79.1%) and currently undergoing Bachelor of Nursing education (68%) and students of Nursing in Bali mostly have poor sleep quality (97.4%). Conclusion: Students of Nursing reported to have poor sleep quality over the last month.

This study expands knowledge on the effects of technology use on sleep by (1) focusing onsocial media use in an adult sample, (2) investigating the difference between overall andnighttime-specific social media use with regards to sleep, and (3) exploring a vulnerabilityperspective. For the latter, the moderating roles of gender, age, and habitual social mediachecking behavior were examined. A representative quota sample of 584 adults (18-96 yearsold) participated in an online survey. Results indicated that 2 out of 3 adults used socialmedia, and that use both shortly before and in bed was prevalent. Only nighttime use wasassociated with poorer sleep quality. Age and habitual checking behavior moderated thisassociation, identifying younger adults and those with strong checking habits as possiblevulnerable groups for poor sleep. The findings are interpreted in light of existing research onmedia habits and problematic (social) media use.

Objective: To describe the sleep quality of nursing students according to the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index.Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 286 nursing students from a public institution in Salvador, Bahia. Data gathering instruments were applied in classrooms and data were assessed in absolute and relative frequencies, means and standard deviation.Results: The mean age of participants was 23.48 years (SD = 4.421). Most of students were female (90.2%), single with partner (90.9%), afro descendent (87.8%), unemployed (81.5%), total Family income below than four minimum wages (47.2%), enrolled between 6th and 10th  semester (54.5%), attending academic activities in two or three shifts (80.8%). Sample showed poor sleep quality (86.4%), especially due to the sleep duration, sleep disturbances and daytime disfunction.Conclusions: Poor sleep quality was prevalent in the sample, what rises the need of further analysis of the associated factors and interventions to change this reality.

Objective: To compare the health status (stress, depressive symptoms and sleep quality), the resilience and quality of life in first and fourth year nursing students.Methods: This is a cross-sectional research conducted in 2016 with 86 students enrolled in first and fourth years of the nursing degree. We applied the instrument for Assessment of Stress in Nursing Students, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index, Wagnild and Young’s Resilience Scale; and the WHOQOL-BREF. ANOVA (Test F) was applied for data analysis.Results and conclusions: A total of 49 first-year and 37 fourth-year students were sampled for this study. Fourth- year nursing students showed higher levels of stress, lower intensity of depressive symptoms and higher quality of life and resilience levels. The poor sleep quality was prevalent in both groups. Conclusion: although the nursing education potentially contributes for students’ sickness, the experiences lived in this period may strength the resilience skills.Conclusions: Video indexing and retrieval are accomplished by using hashing and $k$-d tree methods, while visual signatures containing color, shape and texture information are estimated for the key-frames, by using image and frequency domain techniques. Experimental results with the dataset of a multimedia information system especially developed for managing television broadcast archives demonstrate that our approach works efficiently, retrieving videos in 0.16 seconds on average and achieving recall, precision and F1 measure values, as high as 0.76, 0.97 and 0.86 respectively.

The COVID-19 pandemic generated large amounts of stress across the globe. While acute stress negatively impacts health, defining exact consequences and behavioral interventions can be difficult. We hypothesized that a generalized increase in stress and anxiety caused by continuation of the global pandemic would negatively impact sleep quality and that ever users of e-cigarettes and conventional tobacco would have more profound alterations over time. Participants were recruited via social media to complete an online survey in April 2020 (n = 554). Inhalant use was assessed through the UCSD Inhalant Questionnaire and sleep quality was gauged through the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). A set of participants (n = 217) retook the survey in June 2020. Inhalant users—historical or current e-cigarette vapers, conventional tobacco smokers, and dual users—had higher PSQI scores than never smoker/never vapers, demonstrating worse sleep quality in inhalant users. Non-smoking/non-vaping subjects who retook the survey in June 2020 had improvement in their PSQI scores by paired t test, indicating better sleep quality as the pandemic continued, while inhalant users of all types had persistently high PSQI scores (poor sleep quality). These data suggest that ever users of tobacco products may be susceptible to overall diminished sleep quality in the setting of stressful life circumstances. These data also suggest that pandemic-initiated lifestyle changes may have led to improvements in sleep quality. Finally, these findings raise concerns for correlations between either past or active e-cigarette use on sleep, and thus overall health.
