Mobile devices are a revolutionary element that offer many possibilities, although they can also cause problems for users. This is the case with the development of addictive behaviors that can affect personal well-being. The purpose of this paper has been to analyze the influence of smartphone addiction and Instagram use intensity on the self-esteem of Physical Education students. A cross-sectional research design was adopted by applying an online survey to a sample of undergraduate students (n = 385). The results showed that gender and age were factors that influenced the problematic use of the smartphone. In turn, there was a significant positive correlation between smartphone addiction and Instagram use intensity. The influence of smartphone addiction on students’ self-esteem was also highlighted. In contrast, Instagram use intensity did not affect self-esteem. Finally, the findings are discussed, and the main implications of the study are established, where physical education students take on a special role in order to avoid the improper use of smartphones and Instagram through sport.

This descriptive and cross-sectional study aimed to characterize the pattern of energy drinks consumption in a sample of physical education students through a self-applied questionnaire (socio-demographic data and characterization of consumption). Variables associated with consumption: gender, marital status, attending gym classes, athletic swim practice, and study in the morning. Consumption pattern (n=137): 2.2% once in their lives, 9.5% at least once in the last 12 months, 38% at least once in the last month, 39.4% six times or more in the last month, 10.9% 20 times or more in the last month. Justification for consumption: 54% to improve the taste of alcoholic drinks, 27.7% to extend their evening leisure periods, 13.9% to improve sports performance, 9.5% for stimulation, 8.8% enjoy the taste, 6.6% for curiosity and 4.4% to study. Of those who consumed energy drinks, 87.6% mixed it with alcohol, and 25.9% of the students reported they consume more alcohol when it is mixed with energy drinks. CONCLUSIONS: the consumption of energy drinks is associated to sports and drinking alcohol.

This cross-sectional study analyzed the burnout symptoms of 146 physical education students from a higher education institution in Paraná, who answered the Burnout Syndrome Inventory. Data analysis was conducted using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, U Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests (p <0.05). The results showed that women had higher scores in the dimensions of Illusion (p = 0.006) and Psychic Wear (p = 0.001). Students who do not have a partner had a higher score in the guilt dimension (p = 0.040). 1st year students had a higher score in the dimension of Psychic Wear (p = 0.001) and Indolence (p = 0.004). It was concluded that sex, marital status and year of the course seem to be intervening factors in the burnout symptoms of physical education students.

Introduction and purpose of the study. Among the main problems of young people with disabilities are overcoming social exclusion, getting used to family responsibilities, having concerns about their lack of opportunities for socialization, which can cause stress, anxiety, depression and other psycho-emotional symptoms and disorders. The hypothesis of scientific research is that engaging in physical education can restore, develop and enhance physical fitness and wellness of persons with disabilities, assist their self-actualization and social integration, which means to positively influence the students’ mental health and emotional wellbeing. The purpose of the study is to examine how physical education influences mental health and emotional wellbeing of students with disabilities in order to determine ways to improve their social adaptation. Materials and methods. The study carries out literature review of methodological studies and scientific research, as well as examines mental health and emotional wellbeing of students with disabilities using the SAS method. The control group consisted of 15 students from the O. Gonchar National University. The experimental group consisted of 10 students with disabilities enrolled in a powerlifting team. Results. The SAS method demonstrated that the indicators of activity and mood were similar for both groups: activity indicators (4.84±0.28 points in the control group, 4.45±0.31 points in the experimental group) and mood indicators (5.27±0.35 points in the control group, 5, 42±0.41 points in the experimental group). However, wellness scores in the students with disabilities were significantly higher than in their non-disabled peers (4.65±0.34 points in the control group, 5.46±0.23 points in the experimental group; P<0.05). The well-being score, made of a number of subjective feelings regarding one’s life satisfaction and an emotional evaluation, was average for both groups. Conclusions. The results of the study of students' mental health and emotional wellbeing according to the SAS method showed a positive influence of adaptive physical education sports as extra-curricular classes and courses on the well-being, activity levels, and moods of students with disabilities. The Adaptive Physical Education students were full of strength and more cheerful, optimistic, and satisfied than their non-disabled peers. One of the relevant factors that explain human behavior, in the acts that develops in daily life, is motivation. The aim of this study was to determinate the level of motivation and social skills in nursing degree student and compare with the level of motivation of physical education students. A descriptive and correlational study, with a cross-sectional design was used in this research (n= 101; 22.03 + 5.8 years old), using the Spanish version of the Situational Motivation Scale (SIMS). It can be highlighted that there is a predominantly female student population in this campus, with a higher motivational level. The predominant religion is the Christian/Catholic, counting with mean values in identified regulation superior to those of the rest. Regarding social skills, thinking (optimistic or pessimistic), empathy and assertiveness are the skills that influence the degree of motivation of students. Regarding the level of motivation, Nursing students show a medium-high level and Physical Education, a high level. Motivation is intrinsic in nursing students and more extrinsic in Physical Education students, although there are also high levels of intrinsic motivation. Uno de los factores relevantes que explican el comportamiento humano, en los actos que se desarrollan en la vida diaria, es la motivación. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar el nivel de motivación y habilidades sociales en estudiantes de enfermería y compararlo con la motivación de estudiantes universitarios de educación física. Para ello, se realizó un estudio descriptivo y correlacional, con un diseño transversal, en (n=101; 22.03+5.8 años), utilizando la Escala de Motivación Situacional (SIMS). Se puede resaltar que hay una población estudiantil predominantemente femenina, con un mayor nivel de motivación, hecho que se repite en estudiantes de Educación Física. La religión predominante es la cristiana/católica, contando con valores medios en una regulación identificada superior a la del resto. El pensamiento, la empatía y la asertividad son las habilidades que influyen en el grado de motivación de los estudiantes. Existe una relación negativa entre la motivación intrínseca y la pasividad y entre la motivación intrínseca y la agresividad. En cuanto al nivel de motivación, el alumnado de Enfermería manifiesta un nivel medio-alto y el de Educación Física, un nivel alto. La motivación es intrínseca en estudiantes de enfermería y más extrínseca en el alumnado de Educación Física, aunque también, existen altos niveles de motivación intrínseca.

<p>This study aims to examine the relationship between self-esteem and learning responsibility and group learning commitment of physical education students. We used a quantitative approach, with a correlation design. During the research, there were 88 physical education students from semester VI involved. In collecting the data, we used the State Self-Esteem Scale from Heatherton and Polivy (1991), the Personal Responsibility Questionnaire from Mergler (2007), and the Organization Commitment Scale from Allen and Meyer (1990). The research data were analyzed descriptively and used Pearson correlation with the assistance of SPSS. The descriptive test revealed that self-esteem is quite good (67%), responsibility for learning is relatively good (54.6%), and students’ group learning commitment is quite good (65.9%). Whereas, the Pearson test indicated that there is a positive and significant relationship between self-esteem and learning responsibilities (0.468) and the students’ group learning commitment (0.282). This study emphasizes that lecturers and peers need to support, maintain, and develop positive self-esteem through supportive feedback to encourage students’ learning behavior, such as being responsible and committed to group learning in completing various learning tasks.</p>

Introduction. The ambiguous results of research and various contradictory conclusions resulting from them, motivate researchers to undertake further attempts at analyses that could shed additional light on personality determinants of sports success. The authors of the study made 3 dimensions of personality the subject of their research – signifi cant from the point of view of achieving high sports results: self-esteem, hope for success and self-effi cacy. Objective. The aim of the study was to investigate self-esteem and selected personality traits describing the executive functions of the self and empirical verifi cation of the relationship between variables among female handball players and physical education students. Material and methods. The study comprised 3 groups of women: the fi rst – 33 female handball players aged 15-32, players of 1st league sports teams with an average training experience of over 10 years. The second – 42 female physical education students. The control group (non-training), consisted of female 39 philology students. In total, 114 women were included in the study. The following were used: the Polish adaptation of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES), the Hope for Success Questionnaire (KNS) by Łaguna, Trzebiński and Zięba, modelled on the basis of the Hope Scale by Snyder et al., and the Polish version of the Generalised Self-Effi cacy Scale (GSES) created by Schwarzer and Jerusalem. Results. Handball players do not diff er in their personality dimensions from female students of physical education, but they have greater willpower than non-trained women. In turn, physical education students, compared to the control group, are characterised by higher self-esteem, greater hope for success (greater willpower and the ability to fi nd solutions) and they have a stronger belief in their own effi cacy. Statistically signifi cant, positive correlations between self-esteem and features describing executive aspects of the self were found in all 3 groups of respondents. Similarly, in all 3 groups of women, a direct relationship between two-dimensional hope for success and self-effi cacy was observed. Conclusions. The study may be a contribution to research on the personality of handball players and have practical applications, being of interest to sports psychologists and coaches working with handball players.

Social media have been growing rapidly during the past decade. However, it remains unclear whether social media make people more emotionally healthy or less. This study aims to explore the effect of Instagram use on individuals’ social anxiety. With a general basis of the three-stage model of interactive media use for health promotion, we conducted a cross-sectional online survey study ( N = 388) in the context of Singapore and empirically tested a mediation pathway linking Instagram use to social anxiety. The results indicated that Instagram use did not directly increase social anxiety. Instead, social comparison, a proximal outcome, and self-esteem, an intermediate outcome played mediating roles, supporting the complete mediation effects. This finding provides important theoretical and practical implications for the design of health campaigns and education in this digital era to enhance the positive effect of social media on health and emotional well-being.

The teaching of physical education today still incorporates innovative methodologies in order to create quality physical education. This article sets out to describe which pedagogical model is used in the initial training of physical education teachers at the University of Granada, from the perspective of the students. The study adopted an exploratory, descriptive and comparative research design, applying a survey to a sample of 303 physical education students. The students perceive that their teachers make use of different organising modalities, methodological strategies and assessment systems that favour the use of active methodologies. The structural equations model for analysing predictive relations between the three methodological components (organising modalities, methodological approaches and evaluation systems) was fitted correctly, obtaining positive relations between the three components. The model also showed positive and negative influences in the opinion of the students in the planning of the teaching–learning methodologies and some of the methodological components. The results indicate that the perception and opinion of the physical education students take on a special role in the development of student-centred methodologies.
