In the construction of essential structures for the determination of the mechanical properties of large-scale heterogeneous fractured rock soils, people usually rely on the results of more representative large-scale field testing when assigning expected performances. Such large-scale field testing is conducted with the help of concrete stamps or rock pillars, usually with a square in plan outsole, for compression and flat shear, in galleries or in open sites. However, there are drawbacks: the complexity in the implementation and interpretation of the testing data, low informativeness, etc. Due to the rectangular shape of the stamp, a very uneven stress state is implemented at its base during shear. In order to eliminate these drawbacks in 1979 V.L. Kubetskiy offered the method of the ring loading, in which the square base of a stamp (a pillar) was replaced by a ringone, and the shift was carried out by applying a torque load to the stamp. This gives the possibility to realize various stress-strain state in the soil massif, to provide a more uniform contact stress diagram at its base, to obtain technological advantages and additional information during the experiment and to interpret the experimental data more reasonably and reliably using more modern models. Adescription of the method, loading schemes, developed field and laboratory equipment, results and interpretation of field experiments using isotropic and transversally isotropic soil models is given. The ways of method modernization using inventory installations are described. Taking into consideration that the common trend of improving the methods of geomechanical testings is aimed to increase the accuracy and informativity and at the same time to decrease the labor intensity, the method of ring loading which is being improving nowadays is still competitive.

This study aims to 1) find out the steps in developing Panlintarmatika learning media, 2) know the feasibility of developing Panlintarmatika learning media based on experts.  This study is a type of Research and Development (RD) research using the Borg and Gal model which consists of: (1) research and information collecting, (2) planning, (3) developing preliminary from a product, (4) prelimunary field testing,  (5) main product revision, (6) main field testing, (7) operational product revision (8) operational field testing.  The trial subjects used were 18 grade 2 students and teachers at SD N Kalangan.  Data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and questionnaires.  Data analysis includes quantitative data analysis and qualitative data analysis.  The results showed that the validation of the media experts received a score of 60 in the "Very good" category, the validation of the material experts received a score of 42 in the "Good" category and the learning expert received a score of 60 in the "Good" category.  The results of the small-scale field test students get a score of 100 with the category "Very Good" and the teacher gets a score of 94 with the category "Very Good".  Large-scale field test results students get a score of 100 with the category "Very Good" and the teacher scores 98 with a score of "Very Good" It can be concluded that the Panlintarmatika learning media is feasible and can be used as class 2 learning multiplication material

A granulosis virus was tested on a field scale at Manjimup and Pemberton in Western Australia for control of its host, the potato moth Phthorimaea operculella (Zell.). The virus was produced on laboratory-reared larvae, and applied as a suspension of pulverised larvae (6 275 in 111 gal/ha) to second-crop (December-planted) potatoes. There were untreated and insecticide-treated (DDT, dieldrin, methyl-demeton) fields for comparison. The effectiveness of the treatments was assessed on numbers of larval mines and tuber damage. Virus infection rates of 100% were achieved, with a residual effect of 12 weeks. Variation in larval body weight indicated that initial dosages and those due to recycled virus were excessive, but were optimum after two months. Virus applications were as effective in preventing damage as insecticide treatments. Virus spread to untreated crops some miles distant was attributed to movements of personnel, farm materials or birds.

ABSTRACT A 14-week, large-scale field study in Delaware demonstrated that, on a moderately exposed sandy beach, nutrients, not oil-degrading microorganisms, were the primary factors limiting biodegradation. The results are reviewed in the context of lessons and guidelines for a full-scale bioremediation response.
