The purpose of the study is to investigate the (Au-Cu)/Water and (Au-Cu)/Ethylene glycol hybrid nanofluids flow and heat transfer through a linear stretching porous plate with the effects of thermal radiation, ohmic heating, and viscous dissipation. Similarity transformations technique is used to transform a governing system of partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. The NDSolve Mathematica program is used to solve the nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Furthermore, the results are compared with the results of homotopy analysis method. The impacts of relevant physical parameters on velocity, temperature, and the Nusselt number are represented in graphical form. The key points indicate that the temperature of (Au-Cu)/water and (Au-Cu)/Ethylene glycol hybrid nanofluids is increased with the effects of Eckert number and magnetic field. The (Au-Cu)/Ethylene glycol hybrid nanofluid also has a greater rate of heat transfer than (Au-Cu)/Water hybrid nanofluid.

The focus of the present paper is to analyze the shape effect of gold (Au) nanoparticles on squeezing nanofluid flow and heat transfer between parallel plates. The different shapes of nanoparticles, namely, column, sphere, hexahedron, tetrahedron, and lamina, have been examined using water as base fluid. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into ordinary differential equations (ODEs) by suitable transformations. As a result, nonlinear boundary value ordinary differential equations are tackled analytically using the homotopy analysis method (HAM) and convergence of the series solution is ensured. The effects of various parameters such as solid volume fraction, thermal radiation, Reynolds number, magnetic field, Eckert number, suction parameter, and shape factor on velocity and temperature profiles are plotted in graphical form. For various values of involved parameters, Nusselt number is analyzed in graphical form. The obtained results demonstrate that the rate of heat transfer is maximum for lamina shape nanoparticles and the sphere shape of nanoparticles has performed a considerable role in temperature distribution as compared to other shapes of nanoparticles.

A steady two dimensional boundary layer flow and heat transfer with variable viscosity electrically conducting fluid at T in the presence of magnetic fields and thermal radiation was considered. The governing equations which are partial differential equations were transformed into ordinary differential equations using similarity variables, and the resulting coupled ordinary differential equations were solved using collocation method in MAPLE 18. The velocity and temperature profiles were studied graphically for different physical parameters. The effects of the parameters on velocity and temperature profile were showed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the flow and heat transfer of a hybrid nanofluid, Cu–Al2O3/water, past a permeable stretching/shrinking sheet. The effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are considered here. Design/methodology/approach Similarity transformations are used to reduce the governing partial differential equations to a system of ordinary (similarity) differential equations. A MATLAB solver called the bvp4c is then used to compute the numerical solutions of equations (12) to (14) subject to the boundary conditions of equation (15). Then, the effects of various physical parameters on the flow and thermal fields of the hybrid nanofluid are analyzed. Findings Multiple (dual) solutions are found for the basic boundary layer equations. A stability analysis is performed to see which solutions are stable and, therefore, applicable in practice and which are not stable. Besides that, a comparison is made between the hybrid nanofluid and a traditional nanofluid, Cu/water. The skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number of the hybrid nanofluid are found to be greater than that of the other nanofluid. Thus, the hybrid nanofluid has a higher heat transfer rate than the other nanofluid. However, the increase in the shrinking parameter reduces the velocity of the hybrid nanofluid. Originality/value The present results are original and new for the study of the flow and heat transfer past a permeable stretching/shrinking sheet in Cu–Al2O3/water hybrid nanofluid.

The present paper studies the flow and heat transfer of the hybrid nanofluids flows induced by a permeable power-law stretching/shrinking surface modulated orthogonal surface shear. The governing partial differential equations were converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations by using proper similarity transformations. These equations were then solved applying a numerical technique, namely bvp4c solver in MATLAB. Results of the flow field, temperature distribution, reduced skin friction coefficient and reduced Nusselt number were deduced. It was found that increasing mass flux parameter slows down the velocity and, hence, decreases the temperature. Furthermore, on enlarging the stretching parameter, the velocity and temperature increases and decreases, respectively. In addition, that the radiation parameter can effectively control the thermal boundary layer. Finally, the temperature decreases when the values of the temperature parameter increases. We apply similarity transformation in order to transform the governing model into a system of ODEs (ordinary differential equations). Numerical solutions for particular values of involved parameters are in very good agreement with previous calculations. The most important and interesting result of this paper is that for both the cases of shrinking and stretching sheet flows exhibit dual solutions in some intervals of the shrinking and stretching parameter. In spite of numerous published papers on the flow and heat transfer over a permeable stretching/shrinking surface in nanofluids and hybrid nanofluids, none of the researchers studied the present problem. Therefore, we believe that the results of the present paper are new, and have many industrial applications.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the laminar boundary layer cross flow and heat transfer on a rotational stagnation-point flow over either a stretching or shrinking porous wall submerged in hybrid nanofluids. The involved boundary layers are of stream-wise type with stretching/shrinking process along the surface. Design/methodology/approach Using appropriate similarity variables the partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary (similarity) differential equations. The reduced system of equations is solved analytically (by high-order perturbed field propagation for small to moderate stretching/shrinking parameter and low-order perturbation for large stretching/shrinking parameter) and numerically using the function bvp4c from MATLAB for different values of the governing parameters. Findings It was found that the basic similarity equations admit dual (upper and lower branch) solutions for both stretching/shrinking surfaces. Moreover, performing a linear stability analysis, it was confirmed that the upper branch solution is realistic (physically realizable), while the lower branch solution is not physically realizable in practice. These dual solutions will be studied in the present paper. Originality/value The authors believe that all numerical results are new and original and have not been published before for the present problem.

AbstractIn this paper, we extend the results in the literature for boundary layer flow over a horizontal plate, by considering the buoyancy force term in the momentum equation. Using a similarity transformation, we transform the partial differential equations of the problem into coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We first analyse several special cases dealing with the properties of the exact and approximate solutions. Then, for the general problem, we construct series solutions for arbitrary values of the physical parameters. Furthermore, we obtain numerical solutions for several sets of values of the parameters. The numerical results thus obtained are presented through graphs and tables and the effects of the physical parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed. The results obtained reveal many interesting behaviours that warrant further study of the equations related to non-Newtonian fluid phenomena, especially the shear-thinning phenomena. Shear thinning reduces the wall shear stress.

Some analyses have been carried out to study the influence of suction/blowing, thermal radiation and temperature dependent fluid properties on the hydro-magnetic incompressible electrically conducting fluid flow and heat transfer over a permeable stretching surface with partial slip boundary conditions. It is assumed that the fluid viscosity and the thermal conductivity vary as an inverse function and linear function of temperature respectively. Using the similarity transformation, the governing system of non-linear partial differential equations are transformed into non-linear ordinary differential equations and are solved numerically using symbolic software MATHEMATICA 7.0. The effects of various physical parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics as well as the skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number are illustrated graphically. The physical aspects of the problem are highlighted and discussed.

The steady two-dimensional Homan stagnation point flow and heat transfer of water base hybrid nanofluids (Al2O3 & Cu) over a permeable radially stretching/shrinking sheet have been studied. The similarity variables are introduced to transform the partial differential equations of the model into the ordinary differential equations. Numerical findings and dual solutions have been carried out by implementing the bvp4c code through MATLAB software. The most prominent effect is illustrated in the boundary layer thickness where the velocity profile increases upon the increment of the suction intensity but decreases in the temperature profile. Besides, the reduced Nusselt number also decreases as enlarging the value of copper and alumina nanoparticle volume fraction. The analysis of the first and second solutions are presented graphically with critical values as well as the detail discussions on the effects of the other involving parameters.

Theoretical investigations of unsteady boundary layer flow gain interest due to its relatability to practical settings. Thus, this study proposes a unique mathematical model of the unsteady flow and heat transfer in hybrid nanofluid past a permeable shrinking slender cylinder. The suitable form of similarity transformations is adapted to simplify the complex partial differential equations into a solvable form of ordinary differential equations. A built-in bvp4c function in MATLAB software is exercised to elucidate the numerical analysis for certain concerning parameters, including the unsteadiness and curvature parameters. The bvp4c procedure is excellent in providing more than one solution once sufficient predictions are visible. The present analysis further observed dual solutions that exist in the system of equations. Notable findings showed that by increasing the nanoparticles volume fraction, the skin friction coefficient increases in accordance with the heat transfer rate. In contrast, the decline of the unsteadiness parameter demonstrates a downward trend toward the heat transfer performance.
