Signal processing of the brushed DC motor current was developed in this paper to obtain information about a rotor speed from a measured motor current. The brushed DC motor current contains a signal with a frequency proportional to the rotor speed. This signal is the outcome of a commutation process occurring in the brushed DC motor, and it is called a ripple component. Since the number of ripples in the measured motor current per one rotation is constant, the rotor speed can be estimated. A discrete bandpass filter with a floating bandwidth was developed as the main part of signal processing. This new interpretation of the bandpass filter was used to extract a frequency of the ripple component from the measured motor current. This frequency was used to acquire information about the estimated rotor speed. The estimated speed was set as a feedback value to a cascade control structure to provide sensorless speed control. The advantages and limitations of this approach are presented in this paper. Based on simulations and experimental results, it was confirmed that the proposed sensorless speed control is robust, accurate, and works precisely in a wide range of speeds.

Abstract The direct current motor is an important drive configuration for many applications across a wide range of power and speeds. It has variable characteristics and is used extensively in variable-speed drives. The goals of this project are to control the direction and speed of a Direct Current (DC) motor. Due to the advancement of wireless technology, there are several communication devices introduced such as GSM, Wi-Fi, ZIGBEE and Bluetooth. Each of the connections has its own unique specification and application. Among these wireless connections, Bluetooth technology is often implemented and can be sent from the mobile phone at a distance of 10 meters. The speed control was implemented using Bluetooth technology to provide communication access from a smartphone. Instead, the ARDUINO UNO platform can be used to quickly promote electronic systems. And an electronics technique is called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) is used to achieve speed control, and this technique generates high and low pulses, then these pulses vary the speed in the motor. In order to control this PWM pulse, variable resistors are used and depend on it the speed of the DC motor will increase or decrease. The variable resistor is adjusting to varying the speed of the motor, and the higher the resistance the lower the speed of the motor rotates. The direction of the motor is controlled by the relay by giving and giving a command on the virtual terminal. The speed of the motor is directly proportional to the resistance as the speed increased after the resistance also increased and vice versa. The significance of this study is practical and highly feasible from the economic point of view and has the advantage of running the motor at a higher rating in term of a reliable, durable, accurate and efficient way of controlling speed and direction control.

Earlier for variable speed application conventional motors were used, but these motors have poor characteristics. These drawbacks were overcome by brushless Dc motor drive. Now days in most of the applications such as industrial, domestic, aerospace, defense, medical and traction etc, brushless DC motor (BLDCM) is popular for its high efficiency, high torque to weight ratio, small size, and high reliability, ease of control and low maintenance etc. BLDC motor is a electronic commutator driven drive i.e. it uses a three-phase voltage source inverter for its operation, electronic devices means there is a problem of poor power quality, more torque ripple and speed fluctuations. This paper deals with the CUK converter two leg inverter fed BLDCM drive in closed loop operation. The proposed control strategy on CUK converter two leg inverter fed BLDCM drive with split DC source is modeled and implemented using MATLAB / Simulink. The proposed method improves the efficiency of the drive system with Power factor correction feature in wide range of the speed control, less torque ripple and smooth speed control.

The field oriented control (FOC) strategy of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) includes all the advantages deriving from the simplicity of using PI-type controllers, but inherently the control performances are limited due to the nonlinear model of the PMSM, the need for wide-range and high-dynamics speed and load torque control, but also due to the parametric uncertainties which occur especially as a result of the variation of the combined rotor-load moment of inertia, and of the load resistance. Based on the fractional calculus for the integration and differentiation operators, this article presents a number of fractional order (FO) controllers for the PMSM rotor speed control loops, and id and iq current control loops in the FOC-type control strategy. The main contribution consists of proposing a PMSM control structure, where the controller of the outer rotor speed control loop is of FO-sliding mode control (FO-SMC) type, and the controllers for the inner control loops of id and iq currents are of FO-synergetic type. Superior performances are obtained by using the control system proposed, even in the case of parametric variations. The performances of the proposed control system are validated both by numerical simulations and experimentally, through the real-time implementation in embedded systems.
