Power quality assessment is a complex measurement task, requiring the usage of a system with suitable metrological properties. This complex measurement task in the real power grid is performed with the use of power quality analysers that measure and record the parameters determining the power quality. The paper presents selected research results for a class A power quality analyser in the specially prepared measurement system containing measuring instruments calibrated by the Main Office of Measures. The measurement results were completed with a presentation of the uncertainty budget. The influence of the phenomenon of spectrum leakage on metrological properties of the tested power quality analyser was considered in the paper. To assess this influence, the simulation studies with the use of MATLAB and the experimental studies were carried out for selected test signals. The Metrological interpretation of the research results is presented in the paper.

In the article research results are presented, which aim to provide treated textile electrostatic properties study. In the article research results are presented, which aim to provide find out abilities of an anti-electrostatic treatment and binding agents for it in treatment of special textile materials and their dependance from modes of operating textile washing. Results of determine a composition and abilities of a functional impregnation; develop a method to study values of electrostatic field for tribocharging conditions of textile materialsare; experimental studies of electrostatic values of materials with functional treatment depending on operating washing modes also presented here. Study results allowed to establish efficiency of the proposed combination of anti-electrostatic active composition based on 5 % solution of dialkyldimethylammonium chloride with a binding agent with the effect to preserve the treatment in the material structure and content of which is 4 % in application of textile fabric with widely used fiber content (cotton 53 %, polyester + oil and water-proofing finish). Acrylic dispersion is stable film-forming component suitable in preserving anti-electrostatic treatment on the surface of a textile material. The research was made in Don State Technical University within the framework of State Assignment of the Ministry of education and science of Russia under the project 11.9194.2017/BCh.

This research develops and implements methods for calculating lighting systems for classrooms in the Khairul Ummah Boarding School. The lumen is used to determine the number of luminaires needed to improve lighting quality following SNI 6197:2011. The number of luminaires obtained from this study was entered into the DIALux Evo 8.1 software. The results obtained of this study indicate that the lighting in the classroom at Khairul Ummah Boarding School didn’t reach the recommended standard, the direct measurement results of the average lighting level of class A was 10.79 lux, while the class X-IPA-3 was 11.66 lux. To improve this condition, class A requires 15 luminaires, and X-IPA-3 requires 12 luminaires. The difference in the results obtained from the two calculations for class A is 0.6%, and X-IPA-3 is 3.4%. Investment costs are needed to improve the lighting system in these classes worth Rp.2,700,000.00 to provide 27 lamps.

The Chinese herb couple Fuzi and Ganjiang (FG) has been a classic combination of traditional Chinese medicine that is commonly used clinically in China for nearly 2000 years. Traditional Chinese medicine suggests that FG can treat various ailments, including heart failure, fatigue, gastrointestinal upset, and depression. Neuroinflammation is one of the main pathogenesis of many neurodegenerative diseases in which microglia cells play a critical role in the occurrence and development of neuroinflammation. FG has been clinically proven to have an efficient therapeutic effect on depression and other neurological disorders, but its mechanism remains unknown. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a serious threat to the quality of life of cancer patients and is characterized by both physical and psychological fatigue. Recent studies have found that neuroinflammation is a key inducement leading to the occurrence and development of CRF. Traditional Chinese medicine theory believes that extreme fatigue and depressive symptoms of CRF are related to Yang deficiency, and the application of Yang tonic drugs such as Fuzi and Ganjiang can relieve CRF symptoms, but the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. In order to define whether FG can inhibit CRF depression-like behavior by suppressing neuroinflammation, we conducted a series of experimental studies in vitro and in vivo. According to the UPLC-Q-TOF/MSE results, we speculated that there were 49 compounds in the FG extraction, among which 30 compounds were derived from Fuzi and 19 compounds were derived from Ganjiang. Our research data showed that FG can effectively reduce the production of pro-inflammatory mediators IL-6, TNF-α, ROS, NO, and PGE2 and suppress the expression of iNOS and COX2, which were related to the inhibition of NF-κB/activation of Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways. In addition, our research results revealed that FG can improve the depression-like behavior performance of CRF model mice in the tail suspension test, open field test, elevated plus maze test, and forced swimming test, which were associated with the inhibition of the expression of inflammatory mediators iNOS and COX2 in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus of CRF model mice. Those research results suggested that FG has a satisfactory effect on depression-like behavior of CRF, which was related to the inhibition of neuroinflammation.

Experimental studies have been carried out to determine the sensitivity of a mobile scintillation gamma-spectrometer to radon-222 in mineral water samples for the selected measurement geometry and the minimum measurable activity of radon-222 in such samples. The measurement results of radon content in mineral water samples obtained using such gamma-spectrometer are presented too.

One of the great revolutions in metrology in chemistry has been the understanding of the need to quote an appropriate measurement uncertainty with a result. For some time, a standard deviation determined under not particularly well-defined conditions was considered a reasonable adjunct to a measurement result, and multiplying by the appropriate Student’s t value gave the 95% confidence interval. But knowing that in a long run of experiments repeated under identical conditions 95% of the 95% confidence intervals would include the population mean did not answer the fundamental question of how good the result was. This became evident as international trade burgeoned and more and more discrepancies in measurement results and disagreements between trading partners came to light. To determine if two measurements of ostensibly the same measurand on the same material give results that are equivalent, they must be traceable to the same metrological reference and have stated measurement uncertainties. How to achieve that comparability is the subject of this chapter and the next. When making a chemical measurement by taking a certain amount of the test material, working it up in a form that can be analyzed, calibrating the instrument, and performing the measurement, analysts understand that there will be some doubt about the result. Contributions to uncertainty derive from each step in the analysis, and even from the basis on which the analysis is carried out. An uncertainty budget documents the history of the assessment of the measurement uncertainty of a result, and it is the outcome of the process of identifying and quantifying uncertainty. Although the client may only receive the fruits of this process as (value ± expanded uncertainty), accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 requires the laboratory to document how the uncertainty is estimated. Estimates of plutonium sources highlight the importance of uncertainty. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) estimates there are about 700 tonnes of plutonium in the world. The uncertainty of measurement of plutonium is of the order of 0.1%, so even if all the plutonium were in one place, when analyzed the uncertainty would be 700 kg (1000 kg = 1 tonne). Seven kilograms of plutonium makes a reasonable bomb.

In-service and preservice teachers are increasingly required to integrate research results into their classroom practice. However, due to their limited methodological background knowledge, they often cannot evaluate scientific evidence firsthand and instead must trust the sources on which they rely. In two experimental studies, we investigated the amount of this so-called epistemic trustworthiness (dimensions expertise, integrity, and benevolence) that student-teachers ascribe to the authors of texts who present classical research findings (e.g., learning with worked-out examples) that allegedly were written by a practitioner, an expert, or a scientist. Results from the first exploratory study suggest that student-teachers view scientists as “smart but evil,” since they rate them as having substantially more expertise than practitioners, while also being less benevolent and lacking in integrity. Moreover, results from the exploratory study suggest that evaluativistic epistemic beliefs (beliefs about the nature of knowledge) predict epistemic trustworthiness. A preregistered conceptual replication study (Study 2) provided more evidence for the “smart but evil” stereotype. Further directions of research as well as implications for practice are discussed.

Developing state-of-the-art and separating principle of deoiling hydrocyclones are introduced. By theoretical analysis, the ways to enhance hydrocyclone’s separation efficiency are described. One way is to inject air into the hydrocyclones so as to combine with oil to form oil-gas compound body, and then increase de-oiling efficiency. By means of injecting air into large cone segment, or fine cone segment of the hydrocyclone, experiments were carried out. It is found that the best injecting part is fine cone segment. Further experimental studies were continued for confirming detail part in fine cone segment, which includes one-third segment and two-thirds segment for the sake of research. Results show that the best air-injecting part is the first one-third segment of fine cone segment. This conclusion would be useful for understanding of air-injected de-oiling hydrocyclone’s separating process, and for its design and applications.

The ISO standard regulating gear-rolling measurement does not specify in detail the calibration and verification procedures for this type of equipment. This may be one of the reasons for the lack of reproducibility in these rolling tests. The uncertainty budget method, which is the most appropriate way to know the accuracy of this dynamic measurement, shows that the measuring sensors’ accuracy is only a part of the total measurement process uncertainty. In this work, a new calibration and verification procedure for a worm gear rolling tester is presented, based on machine tool, coordinate measuring machine and gear measuring instruments’ calibration techniques. After compensating numerically for the measuring instruments, it has been evaluated how the error components of each movement affect the meshing point, a fundamental factor to ensure a good gear transmission. The study shows that there are unintentional position variations, not detected by the measuring sensors, that have to be identified and quantified in the calibration for their later inclusion in the uncertainty budget. In this way, the measurement uncertainty could be reduced, and thus improve the reproducibility of these testers, as a preliminary stage to the development of optimized rolling measurement equipment to solve current limitations.

This article presents the results of the exploratory pre-experimental evaluation process of design and didactic development of three subjects using the semi-distance learning model or blended learning, through a pilot application plan in bachelor’s degrees of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica. First, the blended learning model was applied. Later, scientific information was collected through a survey of students, a panel discussion with teachers, and an analysis of the contents of the study programs. The results show that the interaction between students and teachers increases through their favorite activities such as forums and tasks, which strengthen the individual and collaborative work and the reflective analysis, aspects that favor building learnings. Various lines of research arise from this study; they are necessary to go in depth, specifically, in quasi-experimental studies. Some of these lines are the following: to show the assumptions of the blended learning and educational factors that favor the development of meaningful learning for the student; to determine what the cognitive processes, carried out in mixed learning environments, are; and to test the positive relationship between the student’s academic performance and the semi-distance didactics.
