The integration of Demand-Side Management (DSM) in the planning of Isolated/Islanded Microgrids (IMGs) can potentially reduce total costs and customer payments or increase renewable energy utilization. Despite these benefits, there is a paucity in literature exploring how DSM affects the planning and operation of IMGs. The present work compares the effects of five different strategies of DSM in the planning of IMGs to fulfill the gaps found in the literature. The present work embodies a Disciplined Convex Stochastic Programming formulation that integrates the planning and operation of IMGs using three optimization levels. The first level finds the capacities of the energy sources of the IMG. The second and third levels use a rolling horizon for setting the day-ahead prices or the stimulus of the DSM and the day-ahead optimal dispatch strategy of the IMG, respectively. A case study shows that the Day-Ahead Dynamic Pricing DSM and the Incentive-Based Pricing DSM reduce the total costs and the Levelized Cost of Energy of the project more than the other DSMs. In contrast, the Time of Use DSM reduces the payments of the customers and increases the delivered energy more than the other DSMs.

Permanent electricity availability should not be taken for granted since grid sustainability and reliability are at stake when there is no balance between supply and demand. This paper employs a load balancing demand-side management (DSM) approach based on fuzzy logic, considering the low energy users who have insignificant influence on system peaks. Through the K-means clustering algorithm, suitable candidates for DSM are identified, and the control mechanism is based on energy utilization and load priority. The results reveal that about 3.7 kW in power saving was achieved per month. This result indicates that, with a proper energy management strategy for an individual customer, almost a flatter load profile and power saving can be achieved.

Abstract The main objective of the current study was to assess the impact of the water taken from the ‘Tunisian Refining Industries Company’ on meiobenthic nematodes, before and after a series of treatments in decantation basins followed by its discharge in Bizerte bay, Tunisia. The comparison of environmental parameters of the two types of water was clearly indicative of an improvement in the quality of treated waters after a significant reduction in their loads in hydrocarbons. Overall, the water retained a good quality after being treated by ‘Tunisian Refining Industries Company’ before discharge in the sea. At the end of the experiment, differential responses were observed according to the richness of sediment in organic matter and hydrocarbons. Thus, it was apparent that the nematode assemblage exposed to the treated waters was closer to controls and associated to higher values of abundance, than that under untreated ones. It was also assumed that the species Microlaimus honestus De Man, 1922, Paramonohystera proteus Wieser, 1956 and Cyartonema germanicum Juario, 1972 are sensitive bioindicators of bad environmental statues and of hydrocarbon presence in the environment. On the other hand, Metoncholaimus pristiurus (Zur Strassen, 1894) Filipjev, 1918 would rather be classified as a positive bioindicative species of this type of pollutants.

The purpose of this study is to describe and reveal the impact of excessive smartphone use, which then leads to phubbing. This research study was conducted in May 2020 on 30 students of Uin Sunan Kalijaga as respondents or research subjects. This type of research is qualitative research and interviews with all research subjects, and literature review. The results of the study were recorded that 92% of 27 respondents revealed that a phubber did not give appreciation and was more likely to underestimate the other person. So, planting and practicing Pancasila values in everyday life is very important to carry out. This is so that each individual can fortify and organize himself against wise smartphone use. Then it is hoped that through this research study, students as the nation's next generation will realize the impact of excessive smartphone use on social life.

The integration between art and science is required for the student in the department of architecture. This paper concentrates on the importance of integration between artistic skills and scientific abilities for the student to achieve high quality level of learning in the department of architecture in Iraq. It analyses the criteria of the architectural education and the educational method used. It demonstrates the integration relationship between art, science and architecture. It follows a descriptive analyses methodology to investigate the skills and abilities required for the student to cope with the criteria of architectural education. It conducted a case study on students in the department of architecture in Iraq to explore the impact of having these skills and abilities on the student’s progression. It explains why a few students only graduate with high grades. The results obtained showed that the integration between artistic skills and scientific abilities is very important for the students. On the other hand, developing the artistic skills is harder than developing the scientific abilities in architectural education.

Power networks are gateways to transfer power from generators to end-users. Often, it is assumed that the transfer occurs freely without any limiting factors. However, power flows over a network can be limited by predetermined limits that may come from physical reasons, such as line capacity or Kirchhoff’s laws. When flow is constrained by these limits, this is called congestion, which reduces the energy efficiency and splits the price for electricity across the congested lines. One promising, cost-effective way to relieve the impact of the congestion is demand-side management (DSM). However, it is unclear how much DSM can impact congestion and where it can control the demand. This paper proposes a new DSM mechanism based on locational willingness-to-pay (WTP) centered around income statistics; utilizes a state-space tool to determine the possibility to alter prices by DSM; and formulates a convex optimization problem to decide the DSM. The proposed methodology is tested on IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) systems with two commonly used objectives: cost minimization and social welfare maximization.
