The no-pillar mining method is widely used in coal mining engineering because of its superiority in resolving mine pressure hazards and protecting natural resources. In view of the geological conditions of stable strata in a coal mine of the Shandong Coal Zone, a novel segmented roadside plugging-filling mining method is proposed by introducing the filling coefficient into roadside filling. The operation process is designed with a new grouting filling forming device. Based on the relationship between the theoretical deflection of a cantilever beam and geometric settlement and parallel settlement models, strength formulas applicable to the segmented roadside plugging-filling (SRPF) method at different migration stages are obtained, and the deformation formulas of a roadway toward a rock slab are solved by an elastic equivalent model. Further, the determination procedure of the filling mode under the mining method is clarified. The SRPF method was implemented on a test stope, and the test results indicated that the theoretical deformation produced by the SRPF method was small and can meet the mining requirements. Through on-site test monitoring, the deformation of surrounding rock was 0–160 mm and the filling body under the SRPF method could maintain its own strength and the stability of the surrounding rock. In addition, entire successful mining been completed in the working stope, which further proves the applicability of this method. The backfilling cost of the gob-side filling was reduced by approximately 50%, and the backfilling efficiency was improved in the mine. The description of the novel mining method may provide theoretical and practical guidance for coal mining in similar geological conditions.

Abstract The high stress of the surrounding rock of Hexi Coal Mine easily leads to severe deformation of the retracement channel and the appearance of the mine pressure during the retreat severely affects the stability of the roadway. In order to solve the above problems, a roadway surrounding rock control technology is proposed and tested. The bidirectional energy-concentrated tensile blasting technology is used to perform directional cutting to cut off the stress propagation path. Firstly, the deformation mechanism of the roof is analyzed by establishing the deformation mechanical model of the roof of the retracement channel. Then, according to the geological conditions of working face 3314 and theoretical calculation, the key parameters of roof cutting and pressure releasing of retracement channel are determined, and through the numerical analysis of its cutting effect, the length of cutting seam is 11.5m, and the cutting angle is 10°. Finally, a field test is carried out on the retracement channel of 3314 working face to verify the effect of roof cutting. The results show that the deformation of the retracement channel and the main roadway is very small. In the process of connecting the working face and the retracement channel, the maximum roof to floor convergence is 141mm, and the two sides convergence is 79mm. After the hydraulic support was retracted, the maximum roof to floor convergence of the surrounding rock is 37 mm, and the two sides convergence is 33mm. The roof cutting and pressure releasing of the retracement channel ensures the safe evacuation of the equipment and the stability of the main roadway. The cutting effect is obvious for the release of pressure, which is of great significance to engineering practice.

Abstract Non-pillar coal mining has been developed and implemented in the recent decades in China's coal mining industry. The non-pillar longwall mining by roof cutting without pre-excavated entry (N00 mining method) is one of the latest non-pillar mining methods and this method has the advantages of reduced roadway drivage ratio and increased resource recovery ratio. Previous studies show that the mining pressure during the working face advancing is one of the main factors that affect the stability of underground structures and the safety production. However, there is no evaluation or analysis of the mining pressure at the mining face using entry retaining with roof pre-cutting and an absence of pre-excavated tail entry. In this paper, both field monitoring and numerical simulation approaches are employed in the analysis of the mining pressure distribution characteristics within a range of the whole working face during the face advancing. The results are compared with the field data and simulation results from the traditional mining method performed in the same coal mine. Results supported the idea that the N00 mining method can generate a low-stress area for the retained entry. The stability of the working face and retained entry can be well maintained due to the mine pressure optimization. This paper can aid in the understanding of structural mechanic modeling and mine pressure distribution features, structural mechanic analysis and mine pressure distribution features of the N00 mining method.

Based on the special geological conditions of a tunnel in Qingyuan section of Huizhou-Zhanzhou Expressway, FLAC3d numerical simulation software is used to simulate the rheological properties and instability of surrounding rock in large-section fully weathered sandstone section, and the stability and loss of surrounding rock are analyzed. The deformation of the dome and the face at steady state is analyzed. It is found that: 1) when the surrounding rock is in a stable state, the deformation curve of the dome is smooth. When the surrounding rock of the face is unstable, the front of the face appears ahead. Deformation should be first strengthened on the surrounding rock in front of the face. 2) The arched foot is an important part of the instability of the surrounding rock. In order to prevent the expansion of the collapsed part, the arched part should be reinforced. 3) In order to obtain the limit state of surrounding rock stability, the strength of surrounding rock is reduced, and the strength reduction coefficient corresponding to the displacement sudden point is taken as the safety factor of rock stability around the hole, and the stability safety coefficients of surrounding rock of each construction step are greater than 1.2. 4) The dynamic standard values of deformation control in the whole construction stage are obtained by analyzing the deformation curves of each data monitoring point with time in the corresponding time period of each construction step.

There are series of problems faced by most of the coal mines in China, ranging from low-coal recovery rate and strained replacement of working faces to gas accumulation in the upper corner of coalfaces. Based on the gob-side entry retaining at the No. 18205 working face in a coal mine in Shanxi Province, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and engineering practice were comprehensively used to study the mechanical characteristics of the influence of the width of the filling body beside the roadway and the stability of surrounding rock in a high-gas-risk mine. The rational width of the filling body beside the roadway was determined, and a concrete roadway-side support with a headed reinforcement-integrated strengthening technique was proposed, which have been applied in engineering practice. The stability of the filling body beside the roadway is mainly influenced by the movement of the overlying rock strata, and the stability of the surrounding rock can be improved effectively by rationally determining the width of the filling body beside the roadway. When the width of the roadway-side filling body is 2.5 m, the surrounding rock convergence of the gob-side entry retaining is relatively small at only 5% of the convergence ratio. It has been shown that the figure for roof separation is relatively low, and strata behaviors are relatively alleviated and gas density do not exceed the limit, which are the best results of gob-side entry retaining. The results of this research can provide theoretical guidance for excavation of coal mines with similar geological conditions and have some referential significance to safety and efficient production in coal mines.

As the excavation of tunnels, there are new channels of the groundwater drainage. The original supply of the circulatory system has been destroyed. The effects of groundwater to rock mass of surrounding rock are aggravated. In this paper, combined with a new highway tunnel project, the model is built according to the design parameters and the site engineering geological conditions of the tunnel. The fluid-structure interaction module of the finite difference software FLAC3D is used for the research on tunnel excavation. The distribution of seepage field, the stability of surrounding rock and rock deformation under saturated conditions during the tunnel excavation have been analyzed. The simulation results have certain guiding meaning on fracture development, the stability design of tunnels in water-rich stratum and the design and construction of anti-drainage.

Drilling and blasting method as a common excavation method is widely used in the underground engineering construction. However, in the complicated geological conditions, the path of blasting excavation available has limitation, and then the larger blasting vibration is produced, which influence the stability and safety of the protected structure. To effectively reduce the blasting vibration by optimizing the blasting excavation method, firstly, the site test on blasting vibration is conducted to obtain the blasting vibration data; secondly, the LS-DYNA software is applied to simulate the vibration generated by blasting in site test, based on back analysis on the blasting vibration, the mechanical parameters of the rock mass are obtained, and they are used to simulate six different types of blasting excavation method. According to the analysis on them, the reasonable blasting excavation method is proposed to reduce the blasting vibration which can satisfy the blasting safety regulation.

The right bank underground powerhouse of Houziyan hydropower station is a typical deep-buried type with high geostress and complicated geological conditions. To monitor and analyze the stability of surrounding rock mass during continuous excavation of the powerhouse excavation and locate the potential failure zones, an ESG (Engineering Seismology Group) microseismic monitoring system manufactured in Canada was installed in April, 2013. The wave velocity of the monitoring system was determined through fixed blasting tests. And the average location error is the minimum while P-wave velocity is 5700m/s, less than 10m and meeting the system request. By combining the temporal and spatial distribution regularity of microseimic events with field excavation, micro-crack clusters and potential instability zones were identified and delineated. The results will provide a reference for later excavations and supports of the underground powerhouse. Furthermore, a new monitoring method can also be supplied for the stability analysis of surrounding rock mass in deep-buried underground powerhouses.

Non-coal pillar mining with roadway formed automatically (RFANM) is a new mining approach, which demonstrates revolutionary significance because it does not require making roadway before mining and coal pillar retaining. In order to explore the stability of the surrounding rock structure in RFANM, the deformation of the surrounding rock was theoretically analyzed and simulated based on three different fracture positions of the main roof. It was concluded that reasonable control of temporary support strength in roadway is of great importance to control the deformation of the entry. The deformation process of surrounding rock under different fracture positions in RFANM was simulated by using the Universal Discrete Element Code (UDEC). The results of the numerical simulation showed that the main roof was fractured at the solid coal side or gob side; the deformation of the roadway was small. The fracture condition of the main roof at the gob side required a higher effect of roof slitting or temporary support from the roadway. Through drilling and peeping at the retained roadway, it was judged that the main roof was broken inside the coal wall. Field monitoring results revealed that the deformation of the roadway can be effectively controlled.

Based on geological conditions of 3318 working face haulage roadway in Xuchang Coal Mine, as well as the space-time relationship with surrounding gob, theoretical analysis and numerical simulation were used to study the influence of fault structure on the original rock stress of 3318 working face transport roadway. Considering the composite action of the leading supporting pressure of 3318 working face and the structure and the lateral supporting pressure of gob, the stress distribution and deformation law of roadway under the complex and high-stress condition are studied. The results show that, under the superposition of lateral abutment pressure of goaf and abutment pressure of adjacent working face and fault structure, the peak stress of roadway roof and floor moves to the surface of roadway surrounding rock, and its distribution law changes from obvious symmetry to asymmetry; surrounding rock on both sides of roadway forms asymmetric circular concentrated stress area; roof and floor and two sides of roadway show asymmetric characteristics. This reveals the stability characteristics of roadway surrounding rock under the action of multiple perturbation stresses.
