In this paper, a proposed numerical frozen permeability modeling procedure is fully derived to accurately estimate the parameters of two variants of wound-field flux modulation machines (WF-FMMs) namely: wound-field flux switching machine (WF-FSM) and DC-excited vernier reluctance machine (DC-VRM). During the procedure, the contribution of saturation to the variation of the machine parameters is investigated. The parameter variation effects on the machine performance is also investigated. It is shown that analysis of WF-FMMs is better understood by using the proposed procedure which computes accurately the machine parameters.

This article introduces the switched reluctance machine operating as a generator. This kind of electrical machine delivers CC power at the output and the energy generated can be controlled through several variables. In this work, the switching angles of the machine's power converter are optimized using deterministic and heuristic techniques so that the output power is kept constant via PI controller while guaranteeing maximum value for machine performance, even for different excitation values and mechanical power on the shaft.

Accurate performance evaluation of cloud computing resources is a necessary prerequisite for ensuring that Quality of Service (QoS) parameters remain within agreed limits. In this chapter, the authors consider cloud centers with Poisson arrivals of batch task requests under total rejection policy; task service times are assumed to follow a general distribution. They describe a new approximate analytical model for performance evaluation of such systems and show that important performance indicators such as mean request response time, waiting time in the queue, queue length, blocking probability, probability of immediate service, and probability distribution of the number of tasks in the system can be obtained in a wide range of input parameters.

This paper presents a novel linear switch reluctance machine (LSRM) with segmental stator. The principle of the presented machine is given and compared to the well-known teeth type linear switch reluctance machine. Because the presented machine incorporates a simple concentric winding and concrete ferrite-magnetic segmentations, it features unique magnetic circuit compared to teeth type linear reluctance machine. It is found that the presented linear reluctance machine gains favorable superiority over the teeth type linear reluctance machine in terms of high force density, high reliability and low cost. Different topologies of the presented machine are given and both their merits and demerits are discussed.
