A failure of the pneumatic ABS (anti-lock braking system) weakens the braking performance of commercial vehicles. It affects the driving safety of vehicles. There are four typical failure modes that include: the failure of the pilot inlet solenoid valve and pilot exhaust solenoid valve of the pressure regulator, the failure of the series dual-chamber brake valve, and the failure of the relay valve. In order to study the braking performance and the rule of vehicles under the failure modes of the pneumatic ABS, the co-simulation model of the pneumatic ABS of the commercial vehicle was established based on AMESim and Simulink softwares. The gas path subsystem of the pneumatic ABS and the vehicle model were built based on AMESim. The controller was established based on Simulink/Stateflow. The data were transmitted between the AMESim and Simulink software by using the data interface block. The co-simulation model was validated by tests. The results showed that the maximum error of the braking deceleration is 13.51%. The model can simulate the braking process of the vehicle well. Based on this, the four typical failure modes of the pneumatic ABS were simulated, and the influences of different failure modes on the braking ability were analyzed. The influence of failure ratio on braking distance in four modes was obtained. It can be seen from the simulation results that the failure of the pilot inlet solenoid valve and the pilot exhaust solenoid valve of the pressure regulator cause the wheel lock. The failure of the lower chamber of the brake valve and the failure of the relay valve have a great influence on the braking distance.

A conjoint simulation of suspension system and brake system is proposed based on vehicle braking performance and ride stability. A half car simulation model is built applying the software of MATLAB in which the dynamic load is used to control the active force for suspension system and adjust parameter value of ABS (Anti-lock brake system). The suspension system and ABS construction of the half car simulation model is illustrated in detail. Using the simulation model, the braking distance, the stroke for suspension and the pitch angle of body are measured in three status which include the individually control for active suspension, the individually control for ABS and the integration control respectively. The simulation data show that the integral control method synchronously ensures braking stability and riding stability.

Based on the classification of automated driving by the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and the working principle of the ECPBS (Electronically Controlled Pneumatic Brake system), the requirements and the control modes of the APRV (Automatic Pressure Regulating Valve) were concluded. Four structural configurations for APRV were proposed to meet the requirements of the ECPBS. To study the pressure regulating characteristics of the APRV of different structure configurations, a simulation model was established, and a test bench was built. Through experiments, the correctness and the reliability of the simulation model were verified. The pressure regulation characteristics of the APRV of different structure configurations under different control conditions were revealed, and the suitable levels in the SAE automated driving classifications for automatic pressure regulators of different structure configurations were determined; thus, the theoretical underpinning to improve driving safety and develop automated driving was provided.

Abstract The characterization of failure modes of DRAM is often straight forward if array related hard failures with specific addresses for localization are concerned. The paper presents a case study of a bitline oriented failure mode connected to a redundancy evaluation in the DRAM periphery. The failure mode analysis and fault modeling focus both on the root-cause and on the test aspects of the problem.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evolve a guideline for scientists and development engineers to the failure behavior of electro-optical target tracker system (EOTTS) using fuzzy methodology leading to success of short-range homing guided missile (SRHGM) in which this critical subsystems is exploited. Design/methodology/approach – Technology index (TI) and fuzzy failure mode effect analysis (FMEA) are used to build an integrated framework to facilitate the system technology assessment and failure modes. Failure mode analysis is carried out for the system using data gathered from technical experts involved in design and realization of the EOTTS. In order to circumvent the limitations of the traditional failure mode effects and criticality analysis (FMECA), fuzzy FMCEA is adopted for the prioritization of the risks. FMEA parameters – severity, occurrence and detection are fuzzifed with suitable membership functions. These membership functions are used to define failure modes. Open source linear programming solver is used to solve linear equations. Findings – It is found that EOTTS has the highest TI among the major technologies used in the SRHGM. Fuzzy risk priority numbers (FRPN) for all important failure modes of the EOTTS are calculated and the failure modes are ranked to arrive at important monitoring points during design and development of the weapon system. Originality/value – This paper integrates the use of TI, fuzzy logic and experts’ database with FMEA toward assisting the scientists and engineers while conducting failure mode and effect analysis to prioritize failures toward taking corrective measure during the design and development of EOTTS.

Through analyzing the process of brake, a dynamic model of automobile and a model of the relationship between braking distance and adhesion coefficient were formed; also a simulation calculating model of braking distance was established with the use of Matlab. Finally, a research was done toward the braking distance of a type of a car running on a road after using snow-melting agent. On one hand, with the application of the simulation model which has been established, calculations have been done to the braking distance of Bora vehicles running on roads after using deicing salt; on the other hand, by experiments, Bora vehicles’ braking distance and maximum braking deceleration under the same road condition were measured, meanwhile, the established simulation model was verified.

In order to improve the impartiality and objectivity of judicial expertise, the key problems about traffic accident speed identification are analyzed and the speed of vehicle is calculated by using the braking performance test report with reference to the national standard and automobile theory. The automobile dynamics of driver braking process is analyzed, all kinds of key problems such as the braking distance, braking coordination time, braking speed, longitudinal sliding coefficient of adhesion are combined with the braking performance test report, and the method of determining the longitudinal sliding coefficient of adhesion is proposed, the instantaneous velocity before the collision is calculated. Finally, the method is used to calculate the speed of an actual case, and simulated in the software of PC-Crash, the results are consistent, verifying that the speed identification method is correct.

The failure of a hydraulic system will affect the shifting quality and driving safety of a CVT tractor. In order to reveal the response of the tractor under different hydraulic system failures without destroying the transmission, the following methods are proposed in this paper: firstly, building the simulation model of CVT; secondly, building a test bench to test and verify the transmission model to ensure that the simulation model can accurately predict the response of CVT under different clutch oil pressures; thirdly, obtaining the fault oil pressure data without starting the engine and taking the data of fault oil pressure as the input variable of the simulation model; finally, obtaining the response of the CVT tractor under different hydraulic system failures by simulation. It is found that the damage of the seal ring inside the rotary joint has little effect on shifting quality; oil way block can lead to greater shift impact; when seal ring damage and oil way block occur together, the clutch cannot reach the minimum working pressure; clutch piston jamming and oil leak can cause power interruption of the tractor. The results show that it is feasible to study the response of CVT in fault mode by simulation.

In this paper, numerical study results using ABAQUS are presents to demonstrate the failure modes and the behaviour of endplate connection with different parameters at elevated temperature. Numerical models and simulation methodology are first validated by the comparison to experimental data. Then the behaviour of beam and the failure modes endplate connection with different parameters- including beam span, beam load ratio, column cross section, endplate type- are studied. It can be concluded that all these parameters has a effects on the behaviour of the connection, while some parameters has a great influence on the survivability of the joint.

Four different types of full-scale slotted end plate (SEP) connection joints are tested to determine their failure modes and damage mechanisms under ultimate loading. Researches on mechanical behaviors of I-type, T-type, U-type and Groove SEP connection joints bearing compression are studied, which also analyze their force-displacement behaviors and developing processes of deformation and strain. The results show that the bearing capacities of I, grooved, T and U types SEP connections are increased gradually, which indicate the SEP’s type has great influence on the ultimate strength of joints. The instability of SEP is the main factor to cause the loss of bearing capacity of the connection, which is shown through the development of strain, that SEP enters into plastic stage and the other regions still are elastic.
