For driving multichannel underwater acoustic transducers, the integrated design of the transmitter based on the analysis of the widely distributed impedance should be considered. Previous studies focused on either the matching circuit or the fast resonant tracking control. This paper proposes the design and control methods of a sonar transmitter based on the analysis of the impedance distribution. For the transmitter design, the optimization method based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed for estimating the equivalent and matching circuit parameters. The equivalent circuits of the transducer are more precisely designed by using the measured data in both air and water. The fitness function proposed in the matching includes special functions, such as the limitation and parasitic inductances. A comparison of the experimental and simulation results shows that the optimized matching design improved the power factor, and was similar to the experimental result. For the transmitter control, the constant power and voltage control (CPVC) and instant voltage and current control (IVCC) methods are proposed for the variable impedance load. The impedance variation range affects the rated power and rated voltage of the transmitter, and the rating range determines the initial modulation index (MI) of the pulse-width modulation (PWM) control. To verify the control method, an experimental setup including the multichannel acoustic transducers was established. As a result, the constant power and constant voltage were verified with the proposed control, and the instant voltage and current control also worked in the event that the instant voltage or current exceed their threshold values.

This article represents the torque ripple performance of modular multilevel converter (MMC) fed brushless dc (BLDC) motor using different current control technique. For reducing the ripple current in BLDC motor, a phase-modulated model predictive control (PMMPC) technique has been proposed. The stator ripple current is almost negligible using PMMPC. This PMMPC current control method is a significant minimization of torque ripple in BLDC motor. A comparative torque ripple behaviour of MMC fed BLDC motor has been done using phase-modulated model predictive control, model predictive control (MPC) and proportional integral (PI) control at different switching frequency. It has been observed that a PMMPC current control technique is more efficient as compared to the MPC as well as PI current control technique. It has also been observed that the torque ripple performance is improved while using PMMPC as compared to the MPC and PI controller. Simulation results have been verified with the help of experimental result and these results are obtained in good agreement to the simulated results.

This paper introduces an adaptive bias current control method for an active magnetic bearing (AMB). The bearing force is analyzed theoretically, and the dynamic performance of the magnetic bearing for various bias currents is discussed. Then power consumption is analyzed and the optimum bias current that minimizes power consumption is derived. A novel optimization method using a steepest descent method is proposed. This requires less computing power than the former optimization method using a recursive Fourier transform algorithm. Experimental results show that the optimized bias current can be achieved by the proposed method. However, the dynamics of the rotor is affected by the bias current variation. In order to overcome this problem, the effects of parameter errors are investigated and correction methods are introduced. Experimental results show that the rotor dynamics are not affected by the variable bias current if the parameters are corrected. Results are also presented for machine run-up and run-down.

DC/DC Multiport Converters (MPC) are gaining interest in the hybrid electric drivetrains (i.e., vehicles or machines), where multiple sources are combined to enhance their capabilities and performances in terms of efficiency, integrated design and reliability. This hybridization will lead to more complexity and high development/design time. Therefore, a proper design approach is needed to optimize the design of the MPC as well as its performance and to reduce development time. In this research article, a new design methodology based on a Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA) for non-isolated interleaved MPCs is developed to minimize the weight, losses and input current ripples that have a significant impact on the lifetime of the energy sources. The inductor parameters obtained from the optimization framework is verified by the Finite Element Method (FEM) COMSOL software, which shows that inductor weight of optimized design is lower than that of the conventional design. The comparison of input current ripples and losses distribution between optimized and conventional designs are also analyzed in detailed, which validates the perspective of the proposed optimization method, taking into account emerging technologies such as wide bandgap semiconductors (SiC, GaN).

In this paper, a tracking control problem for discrete-time linear systems with actuator saturation is addressed. The reference signal is assumed to be generated by an external dynamics. First, a design condition of a controller parameterized by a single scheduling parameter is introduced. The controller includes a servo compensator to achieve zero steady-state error. Then, a control algorithm that guarantees closed-loop stability and makes the tracking error converge to zero is given. In the control algorithm, the controller state as well as the scheduling parameter is updated online so that the tracking control performance is improved. Then, it is shown that the decision problem of the scheduling parameter and the controller state can be transformed into a convex optimization problem with respect to a scalar parameter. Based on this fact, we propose a numerically efficient algorithm for solving the optimization problem. Further, we propose a method of modifying the control algorithm so that the asymptotic tracking property is ensured even when the numerical error exists in the optimal solution. A numerical example and an experimental result are provided to illustrate effectiveness of the proposed control method.

Abstract Due to the problems of multi-parameter identification and processing in traditional approach of current-predicting, it is difficult to control PMSM in practical complex environments. In this paper, a predictive current control method based on improved extended observer is proposed, whose mathematical model based on extended state observer is also established. Because of the problem of multi-parameter setting in ESO, the flower pollination algorithm is used to adjust the parameters with the fitness function of minimum absolute error of ESO input and output. To verify the stability of PMSM system based on predicted current control with improved ESO, MATLAB/SIMULINK is used to build the simulation model. And the results show that the control strategy can predict the accurate current ofdq, and the PMSM based on this method can output the desired current, determining the stable operation of the system.

A speed tracking control method for induction machine is shown in this paper. The method consists of outer speed control loop and inner current control loop. Model predictive current control method without the need for calculation of the weighing factors is utilized for the inner control loop, which generates a continuous set of voltage reference values that can be modulated and applied by the inverter to the induction machine. Interesting parallels are drawn between the developed method and state feedback principles that helped with the analysis of the stability and controllability. Simple speed and rotor flux estimator is implemented that helps achieve sensorless control. Simulation is conducted and the method shows great performance for speed tracking in a steady state, and during transients as well. Additionally, compared to the finite control set predictive current control, it shows less harmonic content in the generated torque on the rotor shaft.

The paper proposes a new speed control method to improve control quality and expand the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors speed range. The Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) speed range enlarging is based on the newly proposed power control principle between two voltage sources instead of winding current control as the conventional Field Oriented Control method. The power management between the inverter and PMSM motor allows the Flux-Weakening obstacle to be overcome entirely, leading to a significant extension of the motor speed to a constant power range. Based on motor power control, a new control method is proposed and allows for efficiently reducing current and torque ripple caused by the imbalance between the power supply of the inverter and the power required through the desired stator current. The proposed method permits for not only an enhanced PMSM speed range, but also a robust stability in PMSM speed control. The simulation results have demonstrated the efficiency and stability of the proposed control method.
