The paper presents considerations concerning the transfer of random errors from the input to the output of the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) algorithm. The concept of determining an uncertainty of its output data based on the probabilistic error description has been presented. The DWT is discussed as the product of the vector of input quantities and the matrix of algorithm coefficients. Calculations of the uncertainty of a single output result of the algorithm are described with assumption that the input quantities are burdened by random errors of known distributions. Theoretical considerations have been verified by simulation experiments using the Monte Carlo method. Determining the uncertainty at the DWT output is possible due to the specific properties of transferring random errors by linear and additive algorithms.

Purpose of the study: We propose an approach to hide data in an image with minimum Mean Squared Error (MSE) and maximum Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR) using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). Methodology: The methodology used by us considers the application of Discrete Wavelet transform to transform the values of the image into a different domain for embedding the information to be hidden in the image and then using Singular Value decomposition we decomposed the matrix values of the image for better data hiding. Main Findings: The application of the SVD function gave the model a better performance and also RED pixel values with the High-High frequency domain are a better cover for hiding data. Applications of this study: This article can be used for further research on applications of mathematical and frequency transformation functions on data hiding. It can also be used to implement a highly secure image steganography model. Novelty/Originality of this study: The application of Discrete Wavelet Transform has been used before but the application of SVD and hiding data in the H-H domain to obtain better results is original.

Abstract In recent years, the preservation of handwritten historical documents and scripts archived by digitized images has been gradually emphasized. However, the selection of different thicknesses of the paper for printing or writing is likely to make the content of the back page seep into the front page. In order to solve this, a cost-efficient document image system is proposed. In this system, the authors use Adaptive Directional Lifting-Based Discrete Wavelet Transform to transform image data from spatial domain to frequency domain and perform on high and low frequencies, respectively. For low frequencies, the authors use local threshold to remove most background information. For high frequencies, they use modified Least Mean Square training algorithm to produce a unique weighted mask and perform convolution on original frequency, respectively. Afterward, Inverse Adaptive Directional Lifting-Based Discrete Wavelet Transform is performed to reconstruct the four subband images to a resulting image with original size. Finally, a global binarization method, Otsu’s method, is applied to transform a gray scale image to a binary image as the output result. The results show that the difference in operation time of this work between a personal computer (PC) and Raspberry Pi is little. Therefore, the proposed cost-efficient document image system which performed on Raspberry Pi embedded platform has the same performance and obtains the same results as those performed on a PC.
