In this article, various modulation strategies and hysteresis-band control of a recently introduced dual-boost nine-level inverter (DB9LI) are implemented. DB9LI is a switched capacitor based inverter capable of generating symmetrical nine output voltage levels by employing a single DC source. The topology generates a boosted bipolar voltage at the output side without applying end-side H-bridge (usually employed to generate negative levels), which contrasts with some of the switched-capacitor topologies. The capacitors employed have an inherent self-balancing feature. Additionally, due to lower individual and total standing voltages, switches of low voltage ratings are required. As a result, the cost of switches and the inverter reduces considerably. Metaheuristic-based selective harmonic elimination and mitigation (SHE and SHM) and various sine-triangular pulse width modulation techniques are implemented and compared on various parameters. Finally, a robust eight-band hysteresis control is designed and implemented, which helps to obtain sinusoidal load current with a unity power factor. The modulation strategies and the hysteresis control are validated on the MATLAB simulation environment and an experimental prototype.

Simulation of switched capacitor inverter topology with boost facility is presented in this paper. The main merits of this inverter topology with boos facility are highly adaptable for Photo Voltaic (PV) applications. The inverter is capable of boosting up low voltage DC into high voltage DC and then invert it to the required voltage level with a single stage. The switched capacitor inverter has a special extended structure, which minimizes the number of components and devices when compared to the other inverter is switched by the means of level shifting carrier based Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique. Further, some of the switches in the topology operate in the low frequency and this resulted in a reduction in switching losses thereby increasing the efficiency. This maintains the capacitor voltages at a balanced level. The simulation results are verified through MATLAB/Simulink.

In this paper, a voltage-boost-type non-voltage drop single-phase full-bridge inverter connected to a switched-capacitor structure is proposed. The output voltage of the inverter is controlled by the pulse width modulation of a DSP to control the lead and break of the active switches. The full-bridge switches work at low frequency; the other switches work at high frequency. The inverter uses two capacitor modules to charge and discharge alternately so as to overcome the problem of voltage drop on the output side of the inverter in the transition stage from series capacitor discharge to parallel charge. By analyzing the charge–discharge characteristics of the RC charge–discharge circuit, the capacitor charge–discharge cycle can be adjusted to alter the output voltage within a certain range. The results from the physical construction verify the Simulation results achieved well, which demonstrates satisfactory performance that supports the verification of the above theory.

Underground power grid projects in Hanoi is so urgent that it requires immediate implementation. To synchronously and quickly implement the underground power grid projects, people in charge should not follow the outdated perspectives of just including the power industry, but also need to call for the support and cost sharing responsibility from consumers. This paper aims at approaching the subject both from the producers and consumers’ perspectives to together sharing the cost of putting the power grid underground not only in Hanoi but other metropolitans in Vietnam as well. Field studies (including 104 families) at Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi and CBA method were applied to investigate the willingness to pay (WTP) level of consumers to share the cost with the power industry for the underground power grid projects in Hanoi. The overview of the results shows that cost for the underground power grid in Hoan Kiem District ranging from 30,000 VND/household/month to 46,000VND/household/month. On the other hand, the willingness to pay of a typical household of four people within Hoan Kiem District ranges from 17,000VND/month to 24,000VND/month, with the most favorable method of annual payment within a detailed timeline.

In order to optimize the electric energy quality of HVDC access point, a modular multilevel selective harmonic elimination pulse-width modulation (MSHE-PWM) method is proposed. On the basis of keeping the minimum action frequency of the power device, MSHE-PWM method can meet the requirement for accurately eliminating low-order harmonics in the output PWM waveform. Firstly, establish the basic mathematical model of MMC topology and point out the voltage balance control principle of single modules; then, analyze offline gaining principle and realization way of MSHEPWM switching angle; finally, verify MSHE-PWM control performance on the basis of MMC reactive power compensation experimental prototype. The experimental result shows that the proposed MSHE-PWM method can meet such performance indexes as low switching frequency and no lower-order harmonics, and has verified the feasibility and effectiveness thereof for optimizing the electric energy quality of HVDC access point.

This article deals with an intelligent adaptive neural network (ANN) controller for a direct torque controlled (DTC) electric vehicle (EV) propulsion system. With the realization of artificial intelligence (AI) conferred adaptive controllers, the torque control of an electric car (eCAR) propulsion motor can be achieved by estimating the stator reference flux voltage used to synthesize the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) for a DTC scheme. The proposed ANN tool optimizes the parameters of a proportional integral (PI) controller with real-time data and offers splendid dynamic stability. The response of an ANN controller is examined over standard drive cycles to validate the performance of an eCAR in terms of drive range and energy efficiency using MATLAB simulation software.

AbstractMultilevel inverters play an important role in extracting the power from renewable energy resources and delivering the output voltage with high quality to the load. This paper proposes a new single-stage switched capacitor nine-level inverter, which comprises an improved T-type inverter, auxiliary switch, and switched cell unit. The proposed topology effectively reduces the DC-link capacitor voltage and exhibits superior performance over recently switched-capacitor inverter topologies in terms of the number of power components and blocking voltage of the switches. A level-shifted multilevel pulse width modulation scheme with a modified triangular carrier wave is implemented to produce a high-quality stepped output voltage waveform with low switching frequency. The proposed nine-level inverter’s effectiveness, driven by the recommended modulation technique, is experimentally verified under varying load conditions. The power loss and efficiency for the proposed nine-level inverter are thoroughly discussed with different loads.
