In this paper, we study the geometry data associated with disparity map or depth map images in order to extract easy to compress polynomial surface models at different bitrates, proposing an efficient mining strategy for geometry information. The segmentation, or partition of the image pixels, is viewed as a model structure selection problem, where the decisions are based on the implementable codelength of the model, akin to minimum description length for lossy representations. The intended usage of the extracted disparity map is to provide to the decoder the geometry information at a very small fraction from what is required for a lossless compressed version, and secondly, to convey to the decoder a segmentation describing the contours of the objects from the scene. We propose first an algorithm for constructing a hierarchical segmentation based on the persistency of the contours of regions in an iterative re-estimation algorithm. Then, we propose a second algorithm for constructing a new sequence of segmentations, by selecting the order in which the persistent contours are included in the model, driven by decisions based on the descriptive codelength. We consider real disparity datasets which have the geometry information at a high precision, in floating point format, but for which encoding of the raw information, in about 32 bits per pixels, is too expensive, and we then demonstrate good approximations preserving the object structure of the scene, achieved for rates below 0.2 bits per pixels.

This paper presents perturbation parameters for tuning of multi-objective optimization differential evolution and its application to dynamic system modeling. The perturbation of the proposed algorithm was composed of crossover and mutation operators.  Initially, a set of parameter values was tuned vigorously by executing multiple runs of algorithm for each proposed parameter variation. A set of values for crossover and mutation rates were proposed in executing the algorithm for model structure selection in dynamic system modeling. The model structure selection was one of the procedures in the system identification technique. Most researchers focused on the problem in selecting the parsimony model as the best represented the dynamic systems. Therefore, this problem needed two objective functions to overcome it, i.e. minimum predictive error and model complexity.  One of the main problems in identification of dynamic systems is to select the minimal model from the huge possible models that need to be considered. Hence, the important concepts in selecting good and adequate model used in the proposed algorithm were elaborated, including the implementation of the algorithm for modeling dynamic systems. Besides, the results showed that multi-objective optimization differential evolution performed better with tuned perturbation parameters.

The high-precision roll attitude estimation of the decoupled canards relative to the projectile body based on the bipolar hall-effect sensors is proposed. Firstly, the basis engineering positioning method based on the edge detection is introduced. Secondly, the simplified dynamic relative roll model is established where the feature parameters are identified by fuzzy algorithms, while the high-precision real-time relative roll attitude estimation algorithm is proposed. Finally, the trajectory simulations and grounded experiments have been conducted to evaluate the advantages of the proposed method. The positioning error is compared with the engineering solution method, and it is proved that the proposed estimation method has the advantages of the high accuracy and good real-time performance.

The tracking and contouring errors are inevitable in real computer numerical control contour following because of the reasons such as servo delay and dynamics mismatch. In order to improve the motion accuracy, this paper proposes a synergistic real-time compensation method of tracking and contouring errors for precise parametric curve following of the computer numerical control systems. The tracking error for each individual axis is first compensated, by using the feed-drive models with the consideration of model uncertainties, to enhance the tracking performances of all axes. Further, the contouring error is estimated and compensated to improve the contour accuracy directly, where a high-precision contouring-error estimation algorithm, based on spatial circular approximation of the desired contour neighboring the actual motion position, is presented. Considering that the system structure is coupled after compensation, the stability of the coupled system is analyzed for design of the synergistic compensator. Innovative contributions of this study are that not only the contouring-error can be estimated with a high precision in real time, but also the tracking and contouring performances can be simultaneously improved although there exist modeling errors and disturbances. Simulation and experimental tests demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed method.

Abstract Many models of evolution are implicitly causal processes. Features such as causal feedback between evolutionary variables and evolutionary processes acting at multiple levels, though, mean that conventional causal models miss important phenomena. We develop here a general theoretical framework for analyzing evolutionary processes drawing on recent approaches to causal modeling developed in the machine-learning literature, which have extended Pearls do-calculus to incorporate cyclic causal interactions and multilevel causation. We also develop information-theoretic notions necessary to analyze causal information dynamics in our framework, introducing a causal generalization of the Partial Information Decomposition framework. We show how our causal framework helps to clarify conceptual issues in the contexts of complex trait analysis and cancer genetics, including assigning variation in an observed trait to genetic, epigenetic and environmental sources in the presence of epigenetic and environmental feedback processes, and variation in fitness to mutation processes in cancer using a multilevel causal model respectively, as well as relating causally-induced to observed variation in these variables via information theoretic bounds. In the process, we introduce a general class of multilevel causal evolutionary processes which connect evolutionary processes at multiple levels via coarse-graining relationships. Further, we show how a range of fitness models can be formulated in our framework, as well as a causal analog of Prices equation (generalizing the probabilistic Rice equation), clarifying the relationships between realized/probabilistic fitness and direct/indirect selection. Finally, we consider the potential relevance of our framework to foundational issues in biology and evolution, including supervenience, multilevel selection and individuality. Particularly, we argue that our class of multilevel causal evolutionary processes, in conjunction with a minimum description length principle, provides a conceptual framework in which identification of multiple levels of selection may be reduced to a model selection problem.
