While Shannon’s differential entropy adequately quantifies a dimensioned random variable’s information deficit under a given measurement system, the same cannot be said of differential weighted entropy in its existing formulation. We develop weighted and residual weighted entropies of a dimensioned quantity from their discrete summation origins, exploring the relationship between their absolute and differential forms, and thus derive a “differentialized” absolute entropy based on a chosen “working granularity” consistent with Buckingham’s Π -theorem. We apply this formulation to three common continuous distributions: exponential, Gaussian, and gamma and consider policies for optimizing the working granularity.

Considering the relationship between inhomogeneous plastic deformation and fatigue damage, deformation inhomogeneity evolution and fatigue failure of superalloy GH4169 under temperature 500 °C and macro tension compression cyclic loading are studied, by using crystal plasticity calculation associated with polycrystalline representative Voronoi volume element (RVE). Different statistical standard deviation and differential entropy of meso strain are used to measure the inhomogeneity of deformation, and the relationship between the inhomogeneity and strain cycle is explored by cyclic numerical simulation. It is found from the research that the standard deviations of each component of the strain tensor at the cyclic peak increase monotonically with the cyclic loading, and they are similar to each other. The differential entropy of each component of the strain tensor also increases with the number of cycles, and the law is similar. On this basis, the critical values determined by statistical standard deviations of the strain components and the equivalent strain, and that by differential entropy of strain components, are, respectively, used as fatigue criteria, then predict the fatigue–life curves of the material. The predictions are verified with reference to the measured results, and their deviations are proved to be in a reasonable range.

For some quality inspection practices, subjective judgements based on the inspectors' experience and knowledge, such as visual inspection, may be required for some particular quality characteristics. This kind of measurement system, including its associated randomness and fuzziness, should be assessed by Measurement system analysis (MSA) before its application. For such purpose, this article represents observations with randomness and fuzziness from MSAs as fuzzy random variables, and then two pairs of descriptive parameters, i.e., expected value and variance, are derived. Then, the relationship of the total sum of squares of factors is proven to hold, so that fuzzy analysis of variance (FANOVA) in terms of gauge repeatability and reproducibility can be developed. The proposed approach has the advantage that FANOVA is developed based on the relationship of the total sum of squares of factors, considering randomness and fuzziness. A real case in the semiconductor packaging industry is used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approaches to MSA.

The Principal Purpose of the Present Work is to Investigate the Measurement System of a Direct Loading Electronic Belt Scale with a Single Supporting Roller, Revealing the Relationship between Weight Sensor Output and Vertical as well as Horizontal Force Subjected to Carrier Roller by Means of a Finite Element Software ANSYS. the Results Conclusively Indicate that there is a Good Linear Relationship between the Vertical Force and the Sensor Output while the Output is Independent from the Horizontal One with the Full-Bridge Circuit Applied to Measuring Circuit for Transducer. Variation in Horizontal Force Acting on Carrier Roller is Not a Major Source of Error in the Measurement by a Belt Weigher.

This paper adopted the photoelectric micro measurement system based on CCD which was independently developed by Laboratory of Process Automatic and Detection Harbin Institute of Technology to detect dimension of the small precise parts. Under the various focusing status, it was discovered that articulation of focusing has huge effect on the measurement of measurand. According to the characteristics of measurand, we adopted the entropy function as the evaluation function of automatic focusing, developed a special software to process entropy value of the picked images, and obtained the relationship of focusing evaluation function and measurement error through a large number of experiments. The experimental result effectively verified the effect of articulation of focusing on dimension measurement.

SonTek’s Riversurveyor Catamaran (the RiverCAT) is a fully integrated river discharge measurement system. In this paper, the RiverCAT is applied to measure the topography under water in a middle industry water supply reservoir. The whole measurement process is introduced. Area of each cross-section is calculated with complex trapezoidal quadratic formula, and the capacity of the reservoir is computed with complex prismaid quadratic formula. The relationship between capacity and water level is researched by regression analysis method.

This study aims to categorize the performance measurement system and management commitment of Bengkulu regional apparatus, and obtain empirical evidence of the relationship between the performance measurement system and management commitment. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. Primary data was collected using a questionnaire distributed to elements of leadership and staff involved in the planning, implementation and/or supervision process at the Regional Work Units (SKPD) in Bengkulu. The results show that the SKPD performance measurement system is categorized in the worst case with management commitment in the category of getting started but limited performance. Empirically, the performance measurement system has a relationship with management commitment.
