The organic ligands (E)-8-hydroxyquinoline-2-carbaldehyde oxime (H2L1) and furan-2-ylmethanamine (H2L2) were used to react with Zn(NO3)2·6H2O at 140 °C solvothermal for two days to obtain the heptanuclear Zn(II) cluster [Zn7(L1)4(HL1)2(H2L2)(µ2-OH)(µ2-O)(NO3)] (1). The X-ray single crystal diffraction reveals that every five-coordinated Zn(II) ions are surrounded by two N atoms and three O atoms with the N2O3 coordination environment and four-coordinated Zn(II) ion surrounded by one N atom and three O atoms in the NO3 coordinated environment. The photoluminescence of cluster 1 is obvious. Moreover, in the presence of Ag(I) ions, cluster 1 exhibits an efficient recognition ability, and it realizes the recognition of toxic metal ions. Here, we have developed cluster-based sensing materials for the efficient detection of heavy metal ions Ag(I) strategies.

In this study, six coordination polymers (CPs), {[Ag2(L)(CF3SO3)]·CF3SO3·2H2O·DMF}n (1), {[Ag(L)]·SbF6·4DMF·H2O}n (2), {[Zn(L)0.5(I)2]·3.75H2O}n (3), {[Cd2(L)(I)4(H2O)(DMF)]·4H2O·3DMF}n (4), {[Hg2(L)(I)4]·H2O·4DMF}n (5) and {[Hg2(L)(Cl)4]·2H2O·3DMF}n (6), were obtained based on the designed X-shaped urea-based ligand. X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis revealed that complex 1 displayed a 3D (3,4)-connected {6·82}{64·82}-tcj net. Complex 2 featured a 2D 4-connected {43·63} sheet. Complexes 3 and 5 exhibited a 1D polymeric loop chain. Complex 4 displayed a 1D polymeric fishbone chain. Complex 6 showed a 2D 4-connected {44·62}-sql sheet. Structural comparison revealed that not only the metal ions, but also the anions played crucial roles in the control of final structures.

Abstract The magnetic susceptibilities of some transition metal (II) complexes with 1,2,4-triazole (trz) have been measured in the range 2-300 K. Ni (trz)2 (NO3)2 (H2O) 8/3, Ni (trz)2 SO4 (H2O)5 and α-Ni (trz)2 (NCS)2 are found to be linear antiferromagnetic trimers. For β- Ni (trz)2 (NCS)2 and similar compounds with Mn (II), Fe (II), Co (II) and Cu(II), totally different magnetic properties were observed, suggesting the presence of two-dimensional networks of metal ions bridged by 1,2,4-triazole molecules. For Co (trz) 2 (NCS) 2 this was confirmed by X-ray single crystal diffraction.

ABSTRACTMaterials with high specific surface areas such as pillared clays and zeolites have been studied and can be used to remediate contaminated water. Chemical functionality or compounds can be anchored or attached to the surface of a low-cost material used as a support matrix. This work studied the suitability of inexpensive natural mineral soils to decontaminate waste water from mine and metallurgic industries. Native mineral soils were also impregnated with commercial 1,3 diphenyltiourea (DFT) to improve retention of heavy metal ions. The natural mineral soils were from Hidalgo State in Mexico: white marble (calcite: CaCO3), volcanic gravels named “red and black tezontles” (anorthite matrix: CaO.Al2O3.(SiO2)2 with FexOy and PbxOy), green zeolites (mordenite: Na2CaK2. OAl2O3.10SiO2.7H2O) and kaolin (kaolinite: Al2O3(SiO2)2.H2O). They were ground and sieved. The 50 mesh fraction was studied by Raman and FTIR spectroscopy, X ray powder diffraction and scanning electronic microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX). From these solids new hybrid materials were prepared by impregnation with DFT in ethanolic solutions. Products were characterized and compared with untreated materials. Tezontles, zeolites and kaolinite showed the best impregnation levels. In their surfaces, grown DFT crystals showed different structures. The obtained hybrid solids were tested using several metallic ion solutions: Mn(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), Pb(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II). The metallic adducts were analyzed and the adsorption capacity is discussed. The materials showed high remotion percentages for all metal ions and low Hg(II), Pb(II) and Cd(II) final concentrations. They have good potential for use in remediation of contaminated water with highly toxic metal ions. The metallic adducts were characterized by FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, as well as SEM/EDX analysis. However, all of mentioned methods were not useful for detection of impregnated DFT nor adsorbed or coordinated metallic ions on the supporting materials. Only the SEM/EDX method was found to be suitable for analysis.

8-Hydroxyquinoline covalently bound to silica via a one-stage Mannich reaction was used as an adsorbent for the pre-concentration of Pb(II), Cd(II), Zn(II) and Mo(VI) ions from aqueous solutions in the dynamic mode following determination of their concentrations by X-ray fluorescence methods. The adsorption of Pb(II), Cd(II), Zn(II) and Mo(VI) ions was studied from individual and complex multi-component solutions of both natural and technogenic origins. Peculiarities associated with the simultaneous X-ray fluorescence determination of mixtures of toxic metal ions in a solid matrix are discussed.

In this paper the synthesis and the study of some complex compounds of Fe(III) with ligands derived from: 2-(4-chloro-phenylsulfanyl)-1-(2-hydroxy-3,5-diiodo-phenyl)-ethanone (HL1), 1-(3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxy-phenyl)-2-phenylsulfanyl-ethanone(HL2), and 2-(4-chloro-phenylsulfanyl)-1-(3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxy-phenyl)-ethanone (HL3) is presented. The characterization of these complexes is based on method as: the elemental chemical analysis, IR and ESR spectroscopy, Mssbauer, the thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray diffraction. Study of the IR and chemical analysis has evidenced that the precipitates form are a complexes and the combination ratio of M:L is 1:2. The central atoms of Fe(III) presented paramagnetic properties and a octaedric hybridization. Starting from this precipitation reactions, a method for the gravimetric determination of Fe(III) with this organic ligands has been possible. Based on the experimental data on literature indications, the structural formulae of the complex compounds are assigned.

Herein, we report a facile synthetic methodology for the preparation of 2,3-dialkylquinolines from anilines and propionaldehydes. This cyclization involved environmentally friendly Nafion® NR50 as an acidic catalyst with microwave irradiation as the heating source. A series of substituted 2-ethyl-3-methylquinolines were prepared from various anilines and propionaldehyde derivatives through this protocol with good to excellent yields. Some new chemical structures were confirmed by X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis and the related data were provided. The plausible reaction mechanism studies are also discussed.

A type of cross-linking starch microsphere (CSMs) has been synthesized via reversed phase suspension method. Crosslinked starch microsphere has good adsorption performance to metal ions in water. The adsorption kinetics of Co (II) on the CSMs, selectivity of adsorption CSMs towards Co (II),Cu (II),Pb (II),Cd (II) and adsorption effects of media towards Co (II) were investigated. The CSMs and its adsorption product were comparatively characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that The adsorption rate is mainly controlled by liquid film diffusion, and the constant of adsorption rate is 0.0686min-1 at 308K. The crystal structure of the CSMs decreased greatly after the incorporation of Co (II). Co (II) has better adsorption selectivity on CSMs. Ions coexist and other substances in the solution have certain impact on adsorption. Those data are helpful for treatment of the wastewater containing heavy ions.
