Fibers are promising materials being utilized in electronics, principally in the areas of capacitors and sensors. In this study, we examine the effect of pyrolysis temperature on the electrical conductive behavior and photosensitivity of a carbon-based fiber, which was made by electrospinning a polymer solution containing polyacrylonitrile (PAN), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and dimethylformamide (DMF). Converting the polymeric fiber into a carbon fiber was performed through the controlled pyrolysis during which oxidation, stabilization, and carbonization happened. After oxidation at an elevated temperature, the linear polymer fiber was stabilized to have a backbone structure. Then the oxidized fiber was treated in an even higher temperature range to be partially carbonized under the protection of argon gas. We utilized multiple samples of the fibers treated at various pyrolysis temperatures inside a heat furnace and examined the effects of the temperatures on the properties. The partially carbonized fiber is highly active in view of electron generation under photon energy excitation. The unique electrical and photovoltaic property are due to their semiconducting behavior. The morphology of the specimen before and after the pyrolysis was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The SEM images displayed the shrinkage of the fiber due to the pyrolysis. There are two stages of pyrolysis kinetics. Stage I is related to the oxidation of the PAN polymer. Stage II is associated with the carbonization and the activation energy of carbonization is calculated as 118 kJ/mol.

The thermal behavior of Mg and Al layered double hydroxide with interlayer hydrogen phosphate (abb. as Mg / Al - HPO 4- LDH ) is investigated below 1273 K by means of XRD, TG-DTA, SEM and FT-IR. The basal spacing of Mg / Al - HPO 4- LDH decreases with increasing heating temperature stepwise in two stages; from 1.07 nm at 293 K to 0.85 nm at 333 K in the first stage and to 0.73 nm between 373 K and 443 K in the second one. The LDH becomes amorphous above 443 K until Mg 3 ( PO 4)2, MgO and MgAl 2 O 4 (spinel) appear at 1273 K. SEM images of the LDH show plate-like crystallites both before and after heating at 473 K.

Conductive elastomeric nanocomposites (CEMs) were prepared in two stages to control the precision of pressure sensors. Carbon-based nanofillers such as multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) or graphene (GR) were added to the rubber matrix. For Rubber/MWCNT composites, unfunctionalized (U-MWCNT) and –COOH functionalized MWCNT (F-MWCNT) fillers were synthesized. The properties of the CEMs and the synergistic improvements between the fillers and rubber matrix in composites were also investigated. SEM images show that F-MWCNT fillers were dispersed homogeneously in the composites and they interacted with rubber better than other carbon fillers. The piezoresistivity properties of the CEMs before and after compression were determined using the four-probe method by cyclic loading in 1 mm increments between 1.5 mm and 3.5 mm. F-MWCNT filled composites had higher strength than others when they were compressed by 2.5 mm. The F-MWCNT and GR filled nanocomposites possessed the best resistivity for pressure sensors when compressed at 2.5 mm (for F-MWCNT 1.1E + 08 Ω, GR 5.28E + 06 Ω). These nanocomposites are promising pressures sensors for air suspension systems.

Aim. To characterize the microbiological picture of stomatitis in intact rats before and after the treatment with highly active cultured lactobacilli and to evaluate the effectiveness of this treatment in experiments on white rats. Methods. Experiments were carried out on 32 mongrel female white rats weighing 230 g. Smears were taken from the gum surface of control and experimental rats at all stages of the experiment to characterize the oral cavity microbiocenosis. Results. After treatment of the oral cavity with cultured Staphylococcus aureus , the occurrence and quantity of opportunistic microorganisms significantly decreased. The treatment of stomatitis in rats with cultured lactobacillus ( Lactobacillus 11 zv., Lactobacillus 2 p.r., Lactobacillus 24 d.st. and their combination) led to a decrease in S. aureus prevalence up to its extinction and to normalization of the quantitative composition of opportunistic microbiota. Conclusions. The study showed the effieacy of highly active lactobacillus strains individually or their combinations in the treatment of oral diseases, in particular, bacterial stomatitis.

Bottom ash (BA) is an industrial solid waste formed by the burning of coal. The environmental problems and storage costs caused by this waste increase with every passing day. In this study, the use of BA as an additive (clay substitute) in fired brick production was investigated. The study consisted of two stages. In the first stage, cylinder blocks were produced from clay used in brick production. The second stage was the examination of the experimental substitution of clay with 10, 20, 30 and 40% BA. Samples were fired at 900, 1000, 1100 and 1150 °C to produce fired brick samples. The unit weight, compressive strength (before and after freeze–thawing) and water absorption were analyzed for the samples. The unit weight values decreased in the samples containing BA. The mechanical properties met the conditions prescribed in the relevant standards; i.e., all of the samples fired at 1100 and 1150 °C had a sufficient compressive strength over 20 MPa. The high potential of fired bricks for the construction industry was proved. BA can be used as a clay substitute, while the developed protocol can be used to effectively produce fired bricks.

The investigative studies on mechanical performance & behaviour, of Geopolymer Concrete (GPC) before and after the exposure to elevated temperatures (of 200 0 C -1000 0 C with an increment of 100 0 C). Indicate that the GPC Specimens Exhibited better Compressive strength at higher temperatures than that of those made by regular OPC Concrete with M30 Grade. The chronological changes in the geopolymeric structure upon exposure to these temperatures and their reflections on the thermal behaviour have also been explored. The SEM images indicate GPC produced by fly ash , metakaolin and silica fume, under alkaline conditions form Mineral binders that are not only non-flammable and but are also non-combustible resins and binders. Further the Observations drawn disclose that the mass and compressive strength of concrete gets reduced with increase in temperatures.

The failure of heavily loaded rotating parts of aviation gas turbine engines may bring about dangerous consequences. The life of such parts is limited with the use of computational and experimental methods. Computational life prediction methods that are used without carrying out life-cycle tests of engine parts or assemblies should be substantiated experimentally. The best option for verifying the computational methods is to use the results of cyclic tests of model disks. These tests make it possible to reproduce loading conditions and surface conditions that correspond to those of real disks, and the data on the load history and material properties make it possible to simulate stress-strain behavior of disks under test conditions by calculation. This paper shows the process of planning such tests. It is assumed that the tests will be carried out in two stages - before and after the initiation of a low-cycle fatigue crack. A number of criteria are formulated that the geometry of model disks and their loading conditions are to satisfy. Based on these criteria, model disks were designed and the conditions for their testing were selected.
