Abstract COVID-19 has induced many problems in various sectors of life for humanity around the world. After one year of pandemic, many studies have been carried out in exposing various technology innovations and applications to combat the coronavirus that has killed more people than most. The pandemic has accelerated the use of Big Data technology to mitigate the threats of COVID-19. This survey aims to explore the Big Data research for COVID-19. We collected and analyzed the relevant academic articles to identify how Big Data technology can cover the challenges faced in overcoming the pandemic. In determining the research areas addressed by the past studies, we highlight the technology contributions to five major areas of healthcare, social life, government policy, business and management, and the environment. We discuss how analytical techniques of machine learning, deep learning, statistics, and mathematics can solve pandemic issues. The Big Data research for COVID-19 used a wide variety of data sources available publicly or privately. At the end of the discussion, we present the data source used in the past studies encompassing government official data, institutional service data, IoT generated data, online media data, and open data. We hope that this survey will clarify the role of Big Data technology in enhancing the research for COVID-19.

The development of technology from year to year is increasingly rapid and diverse. All systems that exist in human life began to be designed with technology that requires large data storage. Big Data technology began to be developed to accommodate very large data volumes, rapid data changes, and very varied. Developing countries are starting to use Big Data a lot in developing their systems, such as healthcare, agriculture, building, transportation, and various other fields. In this paper, it explains the development of Big Data applied to the sectors previously mentioned in developing countries and also the challenges faced by developing countries in the process of developing their systems.

Big-data-analyzed finding patterns derive meaning and make decisions on data to produce responses to the world with intelligence. It is an emerging area used in business intelligence (BI) for competitive advantage to analyze the structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data stored in different formats. As the big data technology continues to evolve, businesses are turning to predictive intelligence to deepen the engagement to customers with optimization in processes to reduce the operational costs. Predictive intelligence uses sets of advanced technologies that enable organizations to use data stored in real time that move from a historical and descriptive view to a forward-looking perspective of data. The comparison and other security issue of this technology is covered in this book chapter. The combination of big data technology and predictive analytics is sometimes referred to as a never-ending process and has the possibility to deliver significant competitive advantage. This chapter provides an extensive review of literature on big data technologies and its usage in the predictive intelligence.

It is strongly believed that technology can reap the best only when it can be tamed by all stakeholders. Big data technology has no exception for this and even after a decade of emergence, the technology is still a herculean task and is in nascent stage with respect to applicability for many people. Having understood the gaps in the technology adoption for big data in the contemporary world, the present exploratory research work intended to highlight the possible prospects of big data technologies. It is also advocated as to how the challenges of various fields can be converted as opportunities with the shift in the perspective towards this evolving concept. Examples of apex organizations like (IMF and ITU) and their initiatives of big data technologies with respect to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are also cited for a broader outlook. The intervention of the responsible organizations along with the respective governments is also much sought for encouraging the technology adoption across all the sections of the market players.

The study analyzes the legal status and principles of Big Data technology, considers the role, features and significance of these technologies. The relevance of the research is dictated by the large-scale use of Big Data technologies in many areas and the weak legal regulation of the use of Big Data using personal data. The purpose of this study is to determine the legal status of Big Data technology and differentiate the concepts of ‘personal data’ and ‘Big Data technologies’. The study author’s definition of technology ‘Big Data’ and ‘personal data in electronic form’, developed principles for the use of Big Data technologies.

Transportation systems are designed to run in normal conditions. The occurrence of planned works, unscheduled major events or disturbances can affect the transportation services that intended to provide and as a result, the disruptive nature may have a significant impact on the operation of the transport modes. This chapter focuses on the impact of disruptions in the multimodal transportation using the available open data. The enablers (key variables) of the datasets are taken into account to evaluate the service performance of each transport mode and its influence on other transport modes in case of disturbances. The high-volume, streaming data collected for a long time is a good potential use case for applying text mining techniques on big data. This chapter provides an insight into research being carried out for developing capabilities to store and analyze multi-modal data feeds for predictive analysis.

The article deals with the problematic issues related to the use of Big Data technology, as well as the positive and negative factors of the Big Data influence on the personal life of citizens. The authors come to the conclusion that in the absence of the law on the regulation of Big Data, the main obstacle to the abuse of private information of citizens is the Law on personal data. However, legitimate consent to the processing of personal data, their depersonalization, enshrined in the law, do not provide adequate protection of personal data from use by third parties. Therefore, serious study is required on the introduction of criminal liability for the use of personal information of individuals, using the technology of Big Data, which led to the violation of privacy.

Since the 21st century, the development of network technology has entered a new stage, and mankind has gradually entered the era of big data with information explosion. Computer big data technology has changed people’s lifestyles. People can obtain information and materials without going out to provide convenience for people’s lives. But it is affected in many ways, but we will also encounter some difficulties in the process of using it. Informatization has had a profound impact on many areas of human social life. Especially in the context of global informationization, the information security (IS) problems encountered by China at this stage are more prominent and obvious than ever before. IS issues have also become a hot topic for many scholars to pay attention to and study. Informatization has gradually penetrated into every aspect of daily production work. However, the flow of enterprise informatization has made the public suffer from IS problems while improving office efficiency. This paper analyzes the shortcomings of current enterprise IS situation awareness; studies the construction of enterprise IS situation awareness system through big data technology, artificial intelligence algorithm, and threat intelligence technology; and puts forward the enterprise level IS situation awareness system model, situation awareness system, architecture, and specific implementation method. After analyzing the system design and deployment, the threats to corporate IS can be discovered in a more timely manner, and based on risk judgment and threat tracking, the company’s detection capabilities against security threats and security attacks can be improved, and effective security incident handling can be provided. Supported by technical means, the security situational awareness system will bring different protection and prevention to our enterprise.

The article discusses various aspects of the use of Big Data technology in forensic activities. Based on the analysis of legislation, the provisions of the legal doctrine, and the existing experience of using various forms of artificial intelligence in human life, the authors indicate possible directions for their implementation in forensic practice (first of all, in the work of an expert), and identify dialectically related risks and problems of a conceptual and legal nature. The necessity of developing and issuing several legal measures aimed at preventing the negative consequences of the spread of Big Data technology, in particular, a general legislative ban on the adoption of legally significant decisions by law enforcement entities based solely on the conclusions obtained by program methods, is substantiated.
