Building information modeling (BIM) provides facility managers with a large database consisting of 3D geometric data as well as management data. In particular, Industry Foundation Class (IFC) has been applied in many studies as it provides extensive and diverse information regarding building components. With the use of BIM combined with case-based reasoning (CBR), in this study, a model was developed to estimate replacement costs by retrieving cost information from IFC. This study focused on the replacement of windows for office buildings, and the costs associated with that replacement. Two main advantages were identified in the proposed approach. First, the replacement information required for the comparison of different cases is automatically obtained from a BIM file and parsed for predicting a cost estimate using IFC. Next, the accuracy is increased by matching various cost-related data such as contractors and manufacturers in the estimation of replacement costs with the help of CBR.

Bridge Information Modeling (BrIM) is considered an innovation in bridge engineering and construction industry. This paper presents a methodology for using BrIM as an assisting tool in performing detailed cost estimates. The methodology depends on integrating visualization feature of BrIM with specific attributes of the BrIM model intelligent components. A program developed using C# language is used to extract the visualization conclusions and other components’ attributes to MS Excel spreadsheet. This sheet assists in performing detailed cost estimate, and reviewing the estimate. The paper also presents a methodology for generating cash flow and required payments. This methodology depends on integrating the developed program with 4D feature of BrIM.

Building information modeling (BIM) is a new method of dealing with the design and information of building component, this project created Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) in BIM with parametric design, it is a new way to study and analysis BIPV. In BIM models, all information about the building components and its lifecycle are included. Therefore the study utilized this important characteristic of BIM to explore its application in BIPV design. The author used BIM software Revit to develop a BIPV building model as the parametric prototype and programmed with panels’ information in C# 2008 to correlate the angle of photovoltaic (PV) panels with sun altitude, and finally applied application programming interface (API) in Revit to control these panels’ angle by the sun path.

The paper proposes a method able to describe, classify and organize information assets concerned with Architectural Heritage, through the use of integrated survey procedures, mainly based on Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS). The point clouds are then imported into the Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to start with the modeling phase. With regard to this issue, in the last period Building Information Modeling is emerging as the most reliable method to manage architectural design and building processes. Literature supplies both theoretical approaches and several practical applications. However, very little researches are devoted to BIM applied to historical architecture, even if some initial results indicate the actual HBIM (Historic/Heritage BIM) as a possible instrument for the design of an intervention aimed at the conservation of the Cultural Heritage. <br><br> The focus of the research is the creation of parametric objects representing the preservation status of materials and building components: 3D modeling of decays in the BIM platform ensures to enrich the related database with graphic, geometric and alphanumeric data that can be effectively used to design and manage future interventions. The added value consists in its capability to associate new parameters that describe both the state of conservation of the materials and the detailed description of interventions needed to restore the building. <br><br> The analyzed case study belongs to Ferrovie dello Stato (the main Italian Railways company) and it is part of the maintenance area, which was originally constituted by a roundhouse containing 51 sheltered railroad tracks and two big sheds.
