In this study, a series of Li2O-Al2O3-B2O3 glasses doped with various concentrations of Dy2O3 (where x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 mol%) were prepared by using a conventional melt-quenching technique. The structural, physical and optical properties of the glasses were examined by utilising a variety of techniques instance, X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–Vis-NIR spectrometer, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and photoluminescence (PL). The XRD spectra demonstrate the amorphous phase of all glasses. Furthermore, the UV-vis-NIR spectrometers have registered optical absorption spectra a numbers of peaks which exist at 1703, 1271, 1095, 902, 841, 802, 669, 458, 393 and 352 nm congruous to the transitions from the ground of state (6H15/2) to different excited states, 6H11/2, 6F11/2 + 6H9/2, 6F9/2 + 6H7/2, 6F7/2, 6F5/2, 6F3/2, 4F9/2, 4I15/2, 4F7/2 and 6P7/2, respectively. The spectra of emission exhibit two strong emanation bands at 481 nm and 575 nm in the visible region, which correspond to the transitions 4F9/2 → 6H15/2 and 4F9/2 → 6H13/2. All prepared glass samples doped with Dy2O3 show an increase in the emission intensity with an increase in the concentration of Dy3+. Based on the obtained results, the aforementioned glass samples may have possible applications, such as optical sensor and laser applications.

In this work, the effects of Fe/Ni co-doping on structural and optical properties of TiO2 thin films were investigated by the X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and UV-visible spectroscopy. The optical properties of transmittance, extinction coefficient, refractive index, real and imaginary parts of dielectric constant of the thin films, prepared by spray pyrolysis, revealed that the absorption in visible region increases due to the influence of Fe/Ni co-doping. The widening of the gap energies is observed as a result of doping. The increased optical gap as a consequence of doping can be explained by decreasing the size of nanoparticles, as confirmed by SEM and increasing the formation of oxygen vacancies as a result of Ni[Formula: see text] substitution to Ti[Formula: see text] and appearance of the Burstein–Moss effect.

AbstractA nanocomposite of 0.5SnO2–0.5Al2O3 has been synthesized using a sol-gel route. Structural and optical properties of the nanocomposite have been discussed in detail. Powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction spectroscopy confirm the phase purity and the particle size of the 0.5SnO2–0.5Al2O3 nanocomposite (13 to 15 nm). The scanning electron microscopy also confirms the porosity in the sample, useful in sensing applications. The FT-IR analysis confirms the presence of physical interaction between SnO2 and Al2O3 due to the slight shifting and broadening of characteristic bands. The UV-Vis analysis confirms the semiconducting nature because of direct transition of electrons into the 0.5SnO2–0.5Al2O3 nanocomposites.

Al co-doped ZnCoO thin film has been prepared by a sol-gel method. The structural and optical properties of the sample were investigated. X-ray diffraction and UV absorption spectroscopy analyses indicate that Al3+ and Co2+ substitute for Zn2+ without changing the wurtzite structure. With the Al doping, the visible emission increased and the UV emission decreased, which is attributed to the increase of O vacancies and Zn interstitials.

Abstract In this study, the effect of grafting with Iron (Fe) ratios (0.1, 0.3 and 0.5) on the structural and optical properties of cadmium oxide films (CdO) was studied, as these films were prepared on glass bases using the method of pulse laser deposition (PLD). The crystallization nature of the prepared films was examined by X-ray diffraction technique (XRD), which showed that the synthesis of the prepared films is polycrystalline, and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) images also showed that the increased vaccination with Iron led to an increase in the crustal size ratio and a decrease in surface roughness, The absorption coefficient was calculated and the optical energy gap for the prepared thin films. It was found the absorption decreases and the energy gap decreases with the increase of doping ratio.

ZnS thin films were deposited at three different radios of V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4) on glass substrates by chemical bath deposition (CBD) method without stirring the deposition bath during the deposition process. The structural and optical properties were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The results showed that ZnS thin film deposited at the radio of V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4)=15:15 is higher than that of the other two different solutions. With the radio of V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4) decreasing from 15:5 to 15:15, homogenous precipitation of Zn (OH)2easily forms in the bath, but ZnS precipitation first become suppressed and then easily forms in solution. It means that the concentration of OH-ion increases with the volume of N2H4increasing, which accelerates the formation of Zn (OH)2. However, when the volume of N2H4increases to 15mL, relatively high concentration of OH-ion not only accelerates the formation of Zn (OH)2, but also be used to the hydrolysis of thiourea. The average transmissions of all the ZnS films from three different solutions (V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4)=15:5, 15:10 and 15:15) are greater than 90% for wavelength values in visible region. The direct band gaps range from 3.80 to 4.0eV. The ZnS film deposited for 2.5h with the radio of V(NH3·H2O)/V(N2H4)=15:15 has the cubic structure only after single deposition.

In this research, TiO2 thin films were prepared using a simple sol-gel spin coating process. The films were characterized using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Energy Dispersive Ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Ultraviolet–visible Spectrophotometer in order to investigate the influence of different annealing temperatures to the structural and optical properties of TiO2. The surface morphology images from FE-SEM display a uniform layer of nanoparticles with a sample of 500 °C possess the most uniform and the visible spherical grain of TiO2 nanoparticles. EDX spectra confirm the presence of Ti and O elements in the samples. The structural properties from the XRD pattern demonstrate that the films are crystalline at a temperature of 500 and 600 °C and the peak (101) intensity was increased as the annealing temperature increased. They exist in the anatase phase at the preferred plane orientation of (101). The calculated crystallite size for 500 and 600 °C samples is 19.22 and 28.37 nm, respectively. The films also possessed excellent absorption in the ultraviolet (UV) region with optical band gap energy ranging from 3.32 to 3.43 eV. These results can be fundamental for the fabrication of a UV sensing device.

In this work Zinc oxide thin films prepared by spray pyrolysis technique. A set of ZnO thin films were deposited with various deposition times, on glass substrate at 350 °C. The precursor solution is formed with zinc acetate in distilled methanol with 0.1 molarity. The deposition time was ranged from 2 to 8 min. The structural and optical properties of those films were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and ultraviolet-visible spectrometer (UV). X-ray diffraction patterns of the ZnO thin films showed polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure and the preferred orientation was along (002) plane when the grain size varied between 9.66 and 16.67nm. ZnO thin films were highly transparent in the visible with the maximum transmittance of 85% and the optical band gap was found between 3.25 and 3.28 eV.
