Indoor pedestrian localization measurement is a hot topic and is widely used in indoor navigation and unmanned devices. PDR (Pedestrian Dead Reckoning) is a low-cost and independent indoor localization method, estimating position of pedestrians independently and continuously. PDR fuses the accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer to calculate relative distance from starting point, which is mainly composed of three modules: step detection, stride length estimation and heading calculation. However, PDR is affected by cumulative error and can only work in two-dimensional planes, which makes it limited in practical applications. In this paper, a novel localization method V-PDR is presented, which combines VPR (Visual Place Recognition) and PDR in a loosely coupled way. When there is error between the localization result of PDR and VPR, the algorithm will correct the localization of PDR, which significantly reduces the cumulative error. In addition, VPR recognizes scenes on different floors to correct floor localization due to vertical movement, which extends application scene of PDR from two-dimensional planes to three-dimensional spaces. Extensive experiments were conducted in our laboratory building to verify the performance of the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms general PDR method in accuracy and can work in three-dimensional space.

The theory of cartographic projections is a tool which can present the convex surface of the Earth on the plane. Of the many types of maps, thematic maps perform an important function due to the wide possibilities of adapting their content to current needs. The limitation of classic maps is their two-dimensional nature. In the era of rapidly growing methods of mass acquisition of spatial data, the use of flat images is often not enough to reveal the level of complexity of certain objects. In this case, it is necessary to use visualization in three-dimensional space. The motivation to conduct the study was the use of cartographic projections methods, spatial transformations, and the possibilities offered by thematic maps to create thematic three-dimensional map imaging (T3DMI). The authors presented a practical verification of the adopted methodology to create a T3DMI visualization of the marina of the National Sailing Centre of the Gdańsk University of Physical Education and Sport (Poland). The profiled characteristics of the object were used to emphasize the key elements of its function. The results confirmed the increase in the interpretative capabilities of the T3DMI method, relative to classic two-dimensional maps. Additionally, the study suggested future research directions of the presented solution.

With the continuous development of computer science and technology, symbol recognition systems may be converted from two-dimensional space to three-dimensional space. Therefore, this article mainly introduces the symbol recognition system based on 3D stereo vision. The three-dimensional image is taken by the visual coordinate measuring machine in two places on the left and right. Perform binocular stereo matching on the edge of the feature points of the two images. A corner detection algorithm combining SUSAN and Harris is used to detect the left and right camera calibration templates. The two-dimensional coordinate points of the object are determined by the image stereo matching module, and the three-dimensional discrete coordinate points of the object space can be obtained according to the transformation relationship between the image coordinates and the actual object coordinates. Then draw the three-dimensional model of the object through the three-dimensional drawing software. Experimental data shows that the logic resources and memory resources occupied by image preprocessing account for 30.4% and 27.4% of the entire system, respectively. The results show that the system can calibrate the internal and external parameters of the camera. In this way, the camera calibration result will be more accurate and the range will be wider. At the same time, it can effectively make up for the shortcomings of traditional modeling techniques to ensure the measurement accuracy of the detection system.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is currently used in the environmental field to simulate flow and dispersion of pollutants around buildings. However, the closure assumptions of the turbulence usually employed in CFD codes are not always physically based and adequate for all the flow regimes relating to practical applications. The starting point of this work is the performance assessment of the V2F (i.e., v2¯ − f) model implemented in Ansys Fluent for simulating the flow field in an idealized array of two-dimensional canyons. The V2F model has been used in the past to predict low-speed and wall-bounded flows, but it has never been used to simulate airflows in urban street canyons. The numerical results are validated against experimental data collected in the water channel and compared with other turbulence models incorporated in Ansys Fluent (i.e., variations of both k-ε and k-ω models and the Reynolds stress model). The results show that the V2F model provides the best prediction of the flow field for two flow regimes commonly found in urban canopies. The V2F model is also employed to quantify the air-exchange rate (ACH) for a series of two-dimensional building arrangements, such as step-up and step-down configurations, having different aspect ratios and relative heights of the buildings. The results show a clear dependence of the ACH on the latter two parameters and highlight the role played by the turbulence in the exchange of air mass, particularly important for the step-down configurations, when the ventilation associated with the mean flow is generally poor.

The paper presents a method for geometric modelling of a four-dimensional ball. For this, the regularities of the change in the shape of the projections of simple geometric images of two-dimensional and three-dimensional spaces during rotation are considered. Rotations of a segment and a circle around an axis are considered; it is shown that during rotation the shape of their projections changes from the maximum value to the degenerate projection. It was found that the set of points of the degenerate projection belongs to the axis of rotation, and each n-dimensional geometric image during rotation forms a body of a higher dimension, that is, one that belongs to (n + 1) -dimensional space. Identified regularities are extended to the four-dimensional space in which the ball is placed. It is shown that the axis of rotation of the ball will be a degenerate projection in the form of a circle, and the ball, when rotating, changes its size from a volumetric object to a flat circle, then increases again, but in the other direction (that is, it turns out), and then in reverse order to its original position. This rotation is more like a deformation, and such a ball of four-dimensional space is a hypersphere. For geometric modelling of the hypersphere and the possibility of its projection image, the article uses the vector model proposed by P.V. Filippov. The coordinate system 0xyzt is defined. The algebraic equation of the hypersphere is given by analogy with the three-dimensional space along certain coordinates of the center a, b, c, d. A variant of hypersection at t = 0 is considered, which confirms by equations obtaining a two-dimensional ball of three-dimensional space, a point (a ball of zero radius), which coincides with the center of the ball, or an imaginary ball. For the variant t = d, the equation of a two-dimensional ball is obtained, in which the radius is equal to R and the coordinates of all points along the 0t axis are equal to d. The variant of hypersection t = k turned out to be interesting, in which the equation of a two-dimensional sphere was obtained, in which the coordinates of all points along the 0t axis are equal to k, and the radius is . Horizontal vector projections of hypersection are constructed for different values of k. It is concluded that the set of horizontal vector projections of hypersections at t = k defines an ellipse.

Adaptive multidimensional signal interpolators are developed. These interpolators take into account the presence and direction of boundaries of flat signal regions in each local neighborhood based on the automatic selection of the interpolating function for each signal sample. The selection of the interpolating function is performed by a parameterized rule, which is optimized in a parametric lower dimensional space. The dimension reduction is performed using rank filtering of local differences in the neighborhood of each signal sample. The interpolating functions of adaptive interpolators are written for the multidimensional, three-dimensional and two-dimensional cases. The use of adaptive interpolators in the problem of compression of multidimensional signals is also considered. Results of an experimental study of adaptive interpolators for real multidimensional signals of various types are presented.

In this paper, we derive a continuum variational model for a two-dimensional deformable lattice of atoms interacting with a two-dimensional rigid lattice. The starting point is a discrete atomistic model for the two lattices which are assumed to have slightly different lattice parameters and, possibly, a small relative rotation. This is a prototypical example of a three-dimensional system consisting of a graphene sheet suspended over a substrate. We use a discrete-to-continuum procedure to obtain the continuum model which recovers both qualitatively and quantitatively the behaviour observed in the corresponding discrete model. The continuum model predicts that the deformable lattice develops a network of domain walls characterized by large shearing, stretching and bending deformation that accommodates the misalignment and/or mismatch between the deformable and rigid lattices. Two integer-valued parameters, which can be identified with the components of a Burgers vector, describe the mismatch between the lattices and determine the geometry and the details of the deformation associated with the domain walls.

Given that the sequences generated by logistic map are unsecure with a number of weaknesses, including its relatively small key space, uneven distribution, and vulnerability to attack by phase space reconstruction, this paper proposes a new two-dimensional mutual coupled logistic map, which can overcome these weaknesses. Our two-dimensional chaotic map model is simpler than the recently proposed three-dimensional coupled logistic map, whereas the sequence generated by our system is more complex. Furthermore, a new kind of pseudorandom number generator (PRNG) based on the mutual coupled logistic maps is proposed for application. Both statistical tests and security analysis show that our proposed PRNG has good randomness and that it can resist all kinds of attacks. The algorithm speed analysis indicates that PRNG is valuable to practical applications.

We previously reported that the kinematics of reaching movements reflect the superimposition of two separate control mechanisms specifying the hand's spatial trajectory and its final equilibrium position. We now asked whether the brain maintains separate representations of the spatial goals for planning hand trajectory and final position. One group of subjects learned a 30° visuomotor rotation about the hand's starting point while performing a movement reversal task (“slicing”) in which they reversed direction at one target and terminated movement at another. This task required accuracy in acquiring a target mid-movement. A second group adapted while moving to—and stabilizing at—a single target (“reaching”). This task required accuracy in specifying an intended final position. We examined how learning in the two tasks generalized both to movements made from untrained initial positions and to movements directed toward untrained targets. Shifting initial hand position had differential effects on the location of reversals and final positions: Trajectory directions remained unchanged and reversal locations were displaced in slicing whereas final positions of both reaches and slices were relatively unchanged. Generalization across directions in slicing was consistent with a hand-centered representation of desired reversal point as demonstrated previously for this task whereas the distributions of final positions were consistent with an eye-centered representation as found previously in studies of pointing in three-dimensional space. Our findings indicate that the intended trajectory and final position are represented in different coordinate frames, reconciling previous conflicting claims of hand-centered (vectorial) and eye-centered representations in reach planning.

We present the first general metric for attractor overlap (MAO) facilitating an unsupervised comparison of flow data sets. The starting point is two or more attractors, i.e. ensembles of states representing different operating conditions. The proposed metric generalizes the standard Hilbert-space distance between two snapshot-to-snapshot ensembles of two attractors. A reduced-order analysis for big data and many attractors is enabled by coarse graining the snapshots into representative clusters with corresponding centroids and population probabilities. For a large number of attractors, MAO is augmented by proximity maps for the snapshots, the centroids and the attractors, giving scientifically interpretable visual access to the closeness of the states. The coherent structures belonging to the overlap and disjoint states between these attractors are distilled by a few representative centroids. We employ MAO for two quite different actuated flow configurations: a two-dimensional wake with vortices in a narrow frequency range and three-dimensional wall turbulence with a broadband spectrum. In the first application, seven control laws are applied to the fluidic pinball, i.e. the two-dimensional flow around three circular cylinders whose centres form an equilateral triangle pointing in the upstream direction. These seven operating conditions comprise unforced shedding, boat tailing, base bleed, high- and low-frequency forcing as well as two opposing Magnus effects. In the second example, MAO is applied to three-dimensional simulation data from an open-loop drag reduction study of a turbulent boundary layer. The actuation mechanisms of 38 spanwise travelling transversal surface waves are investigated. MAO compares and classifies these actuated flows in agreement with physical intuition. For instance, the first feature coordinate of the attractor proximity map correlates with drag for the fluidic pinball and for the turbulent boundary layer. MAO has a large spectrum of potential applications ranging from a quantitative comparison between numerical simulations and experimental particle-image velocimetry data to the analysis of simulations representing a myriad of different operating conditions.
