A two echelon distribution system is often used to solve logistics problems. This study considers a two-echelon distribution system in reverse logistics context with the use of drop box facility as an intermediary facility. An optimization model of integer linear programming is proposed, representing a two-echelon vehicle routing problem with a drop box facility (2EVRP-DF). The aim is to find the minimum total costs consisting of vehicle transportation costs and the costs to compensate customers who have to travel to access these intermediary facilities. The results are then compared to those of common practice in reverse logistics. In common practice, customers are assumed to go directly to the depot to drop their goods. In addition, this study analyzes the environmental impact by adding a component of carbon emissions emitted by the vehicles. A set of comprehensive computational experiments is conducted. The results indicate that the 2EVRP-DF model can provide optimal costs and lower carbon emissions than the common practice.

This study aims to find a set of vehicles routes with the minimum total transportation time for pharmaceutical distribution at PT. XYZ in West Jakarta. The problem is modeled as the capacitated vehicle routing problem (CVRP). The CVRP is known as an NP-Hard problem. Therefore, a simulated annealing (SA) heuristic is proposed. First, the proposed SA performance is compared with the performance of the algorithm form previous studies to solve CVRP. It is shown that the proposed SA is useful in solving CVRP benchmark instances. Then, the SA algorithm is compared to a commonly used heuristic known as the nearest neighborhood heuristics for the case study dataset. The results show that the simulated Annealing and the nearest neighbor algorithm is performing well based on the percentage differences between each algorithm with the optimal solution are 0.03% and 5.50%, respectively. Thus, the simulated annealing algorithm provides a better result compared to the nearest neighbour algorithm. Furthermore, the proposed simulated annealing algorithm can find the solution as same as the exact method quite consistently. This study has shown that the simulated annealing algorithm provides an excellent solution quality for the problem.

This article presents a new simulated annealing algorithm that provides very high quality solutions to the vehicle routing problem. The aim of described algorithm is to solve the vehicle routing problem with time windows. The tests were carried out with use of some well known instances of the problem defined by M. Solomon. The empirical evidence indicates that simulated annealing can be successfully applied to bi-criterion optimization problems.

AbstractSwap trailer transport organisation problem originates from the traditional vehicle routing problem (VRP). Most of the studies on the problems assume that the travelling times of vehicles are fixed values. In this paper, the uncertainties of driving times are considered and a chance constrained programming problem is proposed. An improved simulated annealing algorithm is used to solve the problem proposed. The model and algorithm described in this paper are studied through a case study, and the influence of uncertainty on the results is analysed. The conclusion of this study provides theoretical support for the practice of trailer pickup transport.

Under the situations of distribution center and customer demand, a mathematical model of Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows(VRPTW) is set up, where the main factors of less total distance of vehicles driving and less delayed time of vehicles are considered. For the "premature" convergence in Genetic Algorithms, Simulated Annealing Algorithm is introduced, and GSA is designed to optimize and analyse the VRPTW examples. It is shown that the performance of GSA is better than Genetic Annealing(GA).
