BackgroundSeveral recent publications have evaluated the prognostic value of preoperative hydronephrosis (HN) in patients with upper tract urinary carcinoma (UTUC). The aim of this meta-analysis was to explore the pooled effect of preoperative HN on the prognosis of UTUC patients treated with radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) based on current evidence.MethodsWe performed a systematic search of Pubmed, Cochrane library, and Web of Science databases from inception to June 2020. The outcomes of interest included overall survival (OS), cancer-special survival (CSS), disease-free survival (DFS), and intravesical recurrence-free survival (IVRFS).ResultsTwenty-two studies with a total of 7,542 patients satisfied the eligibility criteria and were finally included in this meta-analysis. The percent of patients with preoperative HN varied in the eligible studies, ranging from 18 to 81%. The pooled results showed that preoperative HN was significantly associated with worse OS (P = 0.004), CSS (P < 0.001), and DFS (P = 0.005), but not IVRFS (P = 0.12). No obvious publication bias was detected by Begg’s test in all the analyses.ConclusionsThe results drawn in our meta-analysis suggest that the presence of preoperative HN is associated with worse prognosis in patients treated with RNU for UTUC. Therefore, closer surveillance and more aggressive therapy may be needed for UTUC patients present with preoperative HN. Well-designed prospective studies are necessary to substantiate the prognostic value of HN in UTUC.

We performed the present meta-analysis to determine its precise role in these patients. Methods: We employed a multiple search strategy in the PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases to identify eligible studies. Disease-free survival (DFS)/progression-free survival (PFS)/time to progression (TTP) and overall survival (OS) were used as outcomes with hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Heterogeneity among the studies and publication bias were also evaluated. Results : A total of 40 studies including 16696 lung cancer patients were eligible for the analysis. Overall, the pooled analysis showed that compared with normal platelet counts, elevated pretreatment platelet counts were associated with poorer OS (HR= 1.54, 95% CI: 1.37-1.72, P<0.001) and poorer DFS/PFS/TTP (HR=1.62, 95% CI: 1.33-1.98, P<0.001) in patients with lung cancer. In subgroup analyses, elevated pretreatment platelet counts were also associated with poorer OS and DFS/PFS/TTP in most subgroups. There was no evidence of publication bias. Conclusions : This meta-analysis revealed that elevated pretreatment platelet counts were an independent predictor of OS and DFS/PFS/TTP in lung cancer patients. Large-scale prospective studies and a validation study are warranted.

Abstract Background: A growing number of researches suggests that microRNAs (miRNAs) as oncogene or tumor suppressor genes play a fundamental role in various kinds of cancers. Among them, miR-24-3p, as a star molecule, is widely studied. However, the prognostic value of miR-24-3p is unclear and controversial. We conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic value of miR-24-3p in a variety of cancers by integrated existing articles from four databasesMethods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library (last update in March 2020) were searched for approach literature. Hazard ratios (HRs) and odds ratios (ORs) were used to evaluate the association between miR-24-3p expression levels and prognostic value or clinicopathological characteristics, respectively.Results: A total of 15 studies from 14 literature were finally qualified and concluded in the present meta-analysis. A significantly worse overall survival was observed in higher expression of miR-24-3p cancer group for OS(Overall survival) of log rank tests and cox multivariate regression by fixed effects model. Also, we found a significant correlation between elevated miR-24-3p levels to RFS (Recurrence-free survival) and DFS(Disease free survival). In addition, the pooled odds ratios (ORs) showed that evaluated miR-24-3p was also associated with the larger tumor size (≥5cm) and advanced TNM stage (Ⅲ and Ⅳ).Conclusion: Built on the above findings, elevated expression levels of miR-24-3p may serve as a promising biomarker used to predict the worse prognosis of cancer patients.

IntroductionThis meta-analysis aims to assess whether the Controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score before treatment can be an independent predictor of the prognosis of patients with urothelial cancer (UC).MethodsThe system searches Web of Science, PubMed, MEDLINE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Cochrane Library, and the search time is up to April 2021. Use STATA 16.0 and Engauge Digitizer 4.1 software for data processing and statistical analysis.ResultsA total of 8 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The meta-analysis results show that compared with the low CONUT group, the high CONUT group has worse over survival (OS) [HR=1.58, 95%CI (1.34, 1.86), P=0.001], cancer-specific survival (CSS) [HR=2.03, 95%CI (1.25-3.29), P=0.04] and recurrence-free survival (RFS) [HR=1.97, 95%CI (1.15, 3.40), P=0.014]; for progression-free survival (PFS), or disease-free survival (DFS), the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant [HR=2.30, 95%CI (0.72, 7.32), P=0.158]. According to different carcinoma types, cut-off value, and region, subgroup analysis of OS was performed, and similar results were obtained.ConclusionsBased on current evidence, this meta-analysis proves that the CONUT score of UC patients before treatment is an independent prognostic predictor. Abstract Background and Purpose: Although the prognostic value of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) for upper tract urinary carcinoma (UTUC) have been described. There is lack of consensus regarding the prognostic factor of LVI in UTUC. The aim of present study was to evaluate the current evidence regarding the contemporary role of LVI through systematic review and meta-analysis according to the updated literatures. Materials and Methods: In the light of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, a systematic search of Web of Science, PubMed and EMBASE was performed for all reports published until July 2019 that included detailed results on the predictors of LVI. Results: Our meta-analysis included thirty one eligible studies containing 14,653 UTUC patients (81-1,363 per study). According to our final results, there was a significant correlation of LVI with worse cancer-specific survival (CSS) (HR=1.62, 95 % CI: 1.49-1.76, p < 0.001), overall survival (OS) (HR=1.55, 95 % CI: 1.41-1.71, p < 0.001), recurrence-free survival (RFS) (HR=1.46, 95 % CI: 1.32-1.61, p < 0.001), cancer-specific mortality (CSM) (HR=1.25, 95 % CI: 1.00-1.56, p = 0.047) and recurrence(HR=1.23, 95 % CI: 1.03-1.48, p = 0.026). In addition, LVI was also correlated with advanced TNM stage (III/IV vs. I/II: OR = 7.63, 95% CI: 5.60–10.39, p < 0.001), higher tumor grade (3 vs. 1/2: OR = 5.61, 95% CI: 3.71–8.48, p < 0.001), lymph node metastasis (yes vs. no: OR = 4.95, 95% CI: 3.66–6.71, p < 0.001), carcinoma in situ (yes vs. no: OR = 1.92, 95% CI: 1.36–2.70, p < 0.001) and positive surgical margin (yes vs. no: OR = 4.38, 95% CI: 2.71–7.07, p < 0.001), but not related to gender (male vs. female: OR = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.80–1.19, p = 0.825) and multifocality (multifocal vs. unifocal: OR = 1.10, 95% CI: 0.82–1.47, p = 0.539). The funnel plot test indicated that no significant publication bias in the meta-analysis. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that LVI was associated with more aggressive clinicopathological features and could serve as a poor prognostic factor for patient with UTUC after radical nephroureterectomy.

Background. Recently, it has been reported that the pretreatment albumin-to-alkaline phosphatase ratio (AAPR) is related to the prognosis of various cancers. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to explore the prognostic value of pretreatment AAPR on clinical outcomes in cancer. Methods. PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase were systematically searched for relevant research before May 2020. Stata 12 was utilized to extract the data and the characteristics of each study and to generate a pooled hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) to assess the relationship between pretreatment AAPR and survival outcomes. Results. We included 16 eligible published articles involving 5,716 patients. We found that low pretreatment AAPR was associated with poor overall survival ( HR = 2.12 , 95% CI: 1.80–2.50, P < 0.001 ), cancer-specific survival ( HR = 2.89 , 95% CI: 1.46–5.71, P < 0.001 ), disease-free survival ( HR = 1.91 , 95% CI: 1.43–2.53, P < 0.001 ), and progression-free survival ( HR = 1.93 , 95% CI: 1.49–2.52, P < 0.001 ). However, there was no statistical relationship between pretreatment AAPR and recurrence-free survival, distant-metastasis-free survival, or locoregional relapse-free survival. The correlation between pretreatment AAPR and overall survival did not change significantly when possible confounders were stratified. The sensitivity analysis showed that this study was reliable. Conclusions. Low pretreatment AAPR was significantly associated with adverse clinical outcomes of cancer. Pretreatment AAPR could be a valuable noninvasive prognostic indicator for cancer.

Abstract Background:Small nucleolar RNA host gene 3 (SNHG3) is a promising long non-coding RNA that may possess prognostic value for different types of tumors. The objective of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the prognostic value of lncRNA SNHG3 in cancer patients.Methods:A systematic literature search of the PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Medline, Web of Science, CNKI, Weipu, and Wanfang electronic databases was carried out in this meta-anaysis. The synthetic hazard ratios (HRs) or odd ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were obtained to determine the prognostic and clinicopathological significance of SNHG3 expression in tumors. Results:The final meta-anaysis included 17 studies that contained 2072 patients. The pooled results provided evidence that SNHG3 overexpression predicted reduced overall survival (OS) (HR=2.15, 95%CI: 1.76–2.63, P<0.00001), recurrence-free survival (RFS) ( HR=2.22, 95%CI: 1.04–4.76, P=0.04) and disease-free survival (DFS) (HR=2.04, 95%CI: 1.35–3.09, P=0.0007) for various cancers. Additionally, the SNHG3 overexpression was concerned with tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage (III/IV vs. I/II, OR=2.91, 95%CI: 1.60–5.29, P=0.0005), lymph node metastasis (LNM) (positive vs negative, OR=5.00,95%CI:2.82–8.87,P<0.00001), distant metastasis (DM) (positive vs negative, OR=2.29, 95%CI: 1.52–3.47, P<0.0001) and tumor size (larger vs smaller, OR=1.80, 95%CI: 1.04–3.11, P=0.04).Conclusions:Our results indicated that SNHG3 overexpression was closely correlated with shorter OS in multiple cancer types, suggesting that SNHG3 might function as a promising predictor for clinical outcomes in cancer.

Background: The incidence of intravesical recurrence (IVR) following radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) is reported in up to 50% of patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). It was suggested that preoperative diagnostic ureteroscopy (URS) could increase the IVR rate after RNU, however, the available data are often conflicting. Thus, in this systematic review and meta-analysis we sought to synthesize that available data for the impact of pre-RNU URS for UTUC on IVR and other oncological outcomes; Materials and methods: A systematic literature search of the PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases was performed in June 2020. Cumulative analyses of hazard ratios (HRs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were conducted. The primary endpoint was intravesical recurrence-free survival (IVRFS), with the secondary endpoints being cancer-specific survival (CSS), overall survival (OS), and metastasis-free survival (MFS); Results: Among a total of 5489 patients included in the sixteen selected papers, 2387 (43.4%) underwent diagnostic URS before RNU and 3102 (56.6%) did not. Pre-RNU diagnostic URS was significantly associated with worse IVRFS after RNU (HR=1.44, 95% CI: 1.29-1.61, p&amp;lt;0.001) than RNU alone. However, subgroup analysis including patients without biopsy during URS revealed no significant impact of diagnostic URS on IVRFS (HR=1.28, 95% CI: 0.90-1.80, p=0.16). The results of other analyses showed no significant differences in CSS (HR=0.94, p=0.63), OS (HR: 0.94, p=0.56), and MFS (HR: 0.91, p=0.37) between patients who underwent URS before RNU and those who did not. Conclusions: The results of this meta-analysis confirm that diagnostic URS prior to RNU is significantly associated with worse IVRFS, albeit with no concurrent impact on the other long-term survival outcomes. Our results indicate that URS has a negative impact on IVRFS only when combined with endoscopic biopsy. Future studies are warranted to assess the role of immediate postoperative intravesical chemotherapy in patients undergoing biopsy during URS for suspected UTUC.
