Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of physical activity and indoor environment on preschool children’s health. Subject and Methods: The final sample comprised 126 parents of children of preschool age. An anonymous questionnaire was used in order to investigate the impact of indoor air pollution on the children's health. Data analysis was performed by using descriptive statistics and cross-tabulations with the SPSS 22.0. Results: The majority of the parents were female (87.3%) at an average age of 31-40 years (73%). Regarding the children, there were an almost equal number of boys and girls and their age ranged between 3 and 6 years old. The children had not shown any signs of emotional or behavioural problems or other issues regarding regular physical functions and they hadn’t shown any problems regarding recreational activities and interaction with friends (90.5%). Cough is a frequent symptom in the case of a common cold (85.7%). There were no statistically significant differences in the parents' responses as far as their children's health dimensions, concerning the availability of an air conditioner at home, the existence of pets and smoking habits in the family environment. Conclusions: Improving air quality is an extremely complicated issue, since pollutants may be created both indoors and outdoors, which makes it very difficult to decrease them. Yet it still is definitely necessary, given the negative effects of pollution on human health, especially on the more vulnerable groups, such as children.

There is increasing interest in Life Cycle Design with the purpose of raising sustainability and reducing energy and material consumption. By increasing energy efficiency, selecting more suitable materials and lessening maintenance requirements it is practical to reduce life cycle cost. Conventional Heat pump air conditioners operate to effect a healthy and comfortable indoor environment. They are large consumers of energy, partly due to the need to exhaust air (with consequent energy wastage) from the conditioned building so that healthy ventilation air may be introduced in its place. Rather than drawing all the energy from community electricity and gas supplies, the designer should design these systems so they recover as much energy as is feasible from both building exhaust air and the environment. A low life cycle cost solar air conditioner design is described that obtains under peak load more than 90% of its energy from a combination of building exhaust air and insolation with a reduction in life cycle cost approaching a factor of 10. In basic terms, with a reduction of a factor of 3 in energy consumption along with a life increase also of a factor of 3 it is possible to approach a factor of 10 improvement in product life cycle cost.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of peninsular arranged perforated benches containing plants on the indoor environment of a naturally ventilated greenhouse. The results are compared to a greenhouse containing peninsular arranged solid benches with no plants. The investigation will be conducted numerically using three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models. The overall temperature and velocity distribution were investigated at different sections of the greenhouse. The temperature and velocity distributions at plant level were of particular interest. Results indicated that the greenhouse containing the perforated benches were in general cooler, but also exhibited higher velocities throughout. The velocities observed were higher than those recommended by ASHRAE [1]. It was concluded that care should be taken when placing plants on the perforated benches especially in the regions adjacent to the walls, as this can lead to non-uniform crop production.
