A study was conducted to assess the effects of replacing inorganic ‘zinc’ and ‘manganese’ with different levels of their organic complexes on growth performance and nutrient metabolizability of broilers. Experiment was conducted with 300 broiler chicks randomly divided into six groups, each consisting of 50 broiler chicks. All groups were further subdivided into five replications each containing 10 broiler chicks. The basal ration was formulated as per BIS (2007) specifications to meet energy and protein requirements of birds. In experimental groups, first group was kept as negative control (T1) containing mineral mixture without ‘zinc’ and ‘manganese’ and T2 (positive control containing mineral mixture with inorganic salts of ‘zinc’ and ‘manganese’) while experimental groups T3, T4, T5 and T6 were supplemented with mineral mixture incorporated with organic ‘zinc’ and organic ‘manganese’ @ 50 and 100% in substitution of their inorganic sources. The highest body weight gain (2334.4g) and improved FCR (1.76) in broilers was observed in T6 group which was significantly (P<0.05) better than negative and positive control groups.

One hundred and twenty day old commercial broiler chicks were randomly allotted to 4 dietary groups, with 6 replicates of 5 birds in each and reared for 42 days under uniform management conditions to study the effect of organic zinc (zinc glycinate; Zn-gly) supplemented at lower levels (30, 20 and 10 ppm) on antioxidant status and immune response in comparison to NRC (1994) recommended levels (40 ppm) of Zn supplemented from inorganic source (ZnSO4). The dietary treatments were corn soybean meal basal diet supplemented with 40 ppm Zn from ZnSO4 (inorganic) (control) and 30, 20 and 10 ppm Zn from Zn-gly (organic). Antioxidant enzyme levels and antibody titres against New castle disease (ND) vaccine (humoral immunity) were estimated on 35th d and oxidative stress markers from liver on 42nd d. On 40th d, the cell mediated immunity (CMI) was assessed as cutaneous basophilic hypertrophy to phytohemagglutinin-P (PHA-P). The lipid peroxidation in haemolysate (P<0.05) lowered in birds with 30 ppm Zn supplemented as Zn-gly compared to 20 and 10 ppm Zn from Zn-gly and 40 ppm Zn from ZnSO4. The Glutathione peroxidase enzyme activity was higher (P<0.05) with 30 ppm Zn as Zn-gly compared to control. The CMI was sgnificantly (P<0.05) high at 30 ppm Zn supplemented as Zn-gly compared to 40 ppm Zn as ZnSO4 and other organic Zn groups. The SOD activity, humoral and cell mediated immune resonse when fed 20 ppm Zn as Zn-gly was comparable to those on 40 ppm Zn as ZnSO4. The results of the study indicated that reducing the level of Zn from inorganic source (40 ppm) to 50 % (20 ppm) supplementation from Zn-gly can result in comparable immune and antioxidant status in broiler chicks.

Coccidiosis is regarded as the parasitic disease with the greatest economic impact on the poultry industry due to reduced performance and increased mortality. A study was conducted to investigate the effects of in ovo administration of probiotics on hatchability, performance, immune organ weights, and lesion scores in broiler chicks during a mixed Eimeria infection. At embryonic day 18, 210 eggs were injected with either sterile water or 1×106 cfu probiotic bacteria. On day 3 post-hatch, half of the chicks from each treatment group were challenged with a mixed inoculum of Eimeria acervulina, Eimeria maxima and Eimeria tenella. Measurements and tissue samples were taken on day of hatch (DOH) and days 3, 9 and 15. On day 9, 24 birds per treatment were scored for intestinal Eimeria lesions. No differences were seen among groups for hatchability as well as for body weight (BW), BW gain (BWG), or immune organ weights prior to the Eimeria challenge. On day 9, the non-challenged birds with probiotic supplementation had higher BW and BWG than the non-supplemented controls while no differences were seen among the challenged groups. On day 15, probiotic supplemented birds had improved BW compared to the non-supplemented birds as well as increased BWG from day 9 to 15. Bursa weight was not affected by treatment at any time point while spleen weight was greater in supplemented birds on day 15. Birds receiving the probiotic had significantly lower mortality than non-treated birds. Additionally, gross lesion severity was reduced due to probiotic supplementation in all intestinal segments evaluated. These results suggest that in ovo supplementation of probiotics may improve early performance and provide protection against a mixed Eimeria infection.

Several methods have been introduced to estimate the optimum level of dietary nutrients such as metabolisable energy (ME), crude protein (CP), and lysine (Lys) in broiler chicken production. Performance optimisation is usually measured as maximising body weight gain and minimising adjusted feed conversion ratio (Adj FCR). One useful method is to model a system that requires an explicit mathematical input-output relationship. Group method of data handling-type neural network (GMDH-type NN) and genetic algorithm (GA) is used to model and optimise an output in an imprecise environment (Yao, 1999). The purpose of this study was to apply the GMDH-type NN and GA methods to provide an optimised formula for broiler chicken performance based on the dietary level of ME, CP, and Lys.

ABSTRACT A total of 640 one-day-old Cobb broiler chicks, half male and half female, were reared up to 49 days of age. A completely randomized 2 × 4 factorial design was used. Experimental treatments consisted of four levels of organic zinc supplementation and one control (inorganic zinc supplementation) and two levels of sex (female and male), with four replicates of 16 birds per experimental plot. Animal performance, carcass and cut yields, and meat quality were evaluated. Feed intake increased with zinc supplementation. Broilers that received the lowest level of organic zinc showed better feed conversion than those fed an equivalent level of inorganic zinc. Increased levels of organic zinc reduced the abdominal fat content in females but impaired the oxidative stability of meat. The results showed that male broilers have better performance, carcass yield, and meat quality than females and that organic zinc improves broiler feed conversion and reduces abdominal fat but increases lipid oxidation in meat.

ООО «БИОТРОФ», Санкт-Петербург Аннотация: Приведены данные исследования методом газожидкостной хроматомасс-спектрометрии метаболитов, синтезируемых пробиотическими бактериями, входящими в состав кормовой добавки «Профорт®». Проведен опыт в условиях интенсивного промышленного птицеводства по применению кормовой добавки «Профорт®» (50 тыс. голов бройлеров в группе). Среди метаболитов пробиотических штаммов Enterococcus sp. и Bacillus sp. обнаружены такие полезные вещества, как молочная кислота, уксусная, пропионовая и другие короткоцепочечные (летучие) жирные кислоты, активные пептиды. Результаты зоотехнического опыта показали, что при скармливании бройлерам пробиотика «Профорт®» (500 г/т) живая масса при убое в 40 дней была выше контроля на 6,9%, конверсия корма улучшилась на 3,0%, а европейский индекс продуктивности бройлеров - на 5,69%.
