The effects were examined of replacing part or all of the soybean meal in the starter and finisher diets for male broiler chickens with ground, roasted, full-fat soybeans from either a high-protein (AC Proteus) or conventional (Baron) cultivar. The starter (1–21 d) and finisher (22–36 d) diets were formulated by replacing, on an isonitrogenous basis, part or all of the soybean meal in the barley–wheat-based control diets with the roasted soybeans. Digestibility of dry matter, corrected nitrogen and energy were estimated by an index method for the last 2 d of the starter and grower periods. Soybean level influenced body weight gains directly in a quadratic manner, and feed intakes or feed conversions by inversely linear relationships (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01) during the starter period. Performance during the finisher period or during the entire growth period was not influenced (P > 0.05) by dietary soybean source. Dry matter and energy digestibilities at both 21 and 35 d, and nitrogen at 35 d were affected in a quadratic manner (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) by the soybean level of the diets, whereas, a linear relationship was present for the apparent metabolizable energy (AME) content (P < 0.001). Soybean source had no effect on nutrient utilization, except for dry matter or energy digestibility during the starter period (P < 0.01). In conclusion, the optimal performance should be obtained when the ratio of roasted full-fat soybeans to soybean meal is about 2:1 in the starter feeds for broiler chickens. This study was conducted to evaluate the productive performance, intestinal health, and description of the cecum microbiota in broilers supplemented with β-mannanases (MNs) and bacteriophages (BPs). Six hundred one-day-old broilers were divided into four groups and fed one of the following diets: CON—corn–soybean meal + 10 ppm enramycin (ENR); MN: CON + 500 ppm MN; BP: CON + 500 ppm BP; MN + BP: BP + 500 ppm MN. The BP and MN factors showed similar performances to ENR. MN improved the concentration of IgA in the jejunum at 35 days of age. The morphometric index (IM) of the thymus increased by adding MN, while BP increased the liver and thymus IM. The histological analysis showed that BP and MN improved the intestinal morphology. MN + BP showed a tendency to decrease the abundance of Proteobacteria and increase the abundance of Bacteroidetes, indicating better microbiota function. In conclusion, our results demonstrate that the combination of MN + BP has potential in poultry nutrition; however, we highly recommend further experiments to confirm this hypothesis.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the performance, carcass yield and intestinal morphometry of 1- to 21-day-old broiler chickens fed a diet containing increasing levels of sunflower cake, supplemented with or without an enzyme complex (EC). We used 1200 Cobb 500 birds, which were distributed in a completely randomized design in a 2x5 factorial scheme and five levels of sunflower cake inclusion (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20%) in diets supplemented or not with EC. Each treatment consisted of 5 replicates. Animals were fed the experimental diets from 1 to 21 days of age and from 22 to 42 days all birds received the same feed based on corn and soybean meal. There was no interaction between the level of sunflower cake inclusion and presence of EC. From 1 to 21 days of age, the weight gain, final weight, and feed intake linearly decreased (P<0.05) with increasing sunflower cake inclusion level. At 42 days old, after animals consumed diets based on corn and soybean meal (from 22 to 42 days), the levels provided least 21 days did not influence the performance results. Animals receiving the EC in the first phase showed better results at the end of the experiment (P<0.05). Up to 21 days old, carcass yield decreased, and abdominal fat increased with the sunflower cake inclusion. The addition of EC in the diet improved the thigh, breast and carcass yield. Intestinal morphology after 21 days revealed that the three segments of the intestine had at least one type of change, such as a decrease in villus height and increase in crypt depth, with increased level of sunflower cake in the diet, affecting performance.

The effect of raw jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) seed meal (JFM) on performance, nutrient utilization and economics of production was investigated using 144 broiler chickens.The birds were divided into four dietary treatments of 3 replicates and 12 birds per replicate in a completely randomized design. Diet one was soybean based (control) while raw JFM meal was added to diets 2 (T ), 3 (T ) and 4 (T ) at 10, 20 and 30% levels of inclusion 2 3 4 of soybean meal in the control diet respectively. At 8 weeks, 2 birds per replicate were used to evaluate nutrient utilization. The growth performance was generally depressed with increased inclusion of raw JFM in the diets. The feed to gain ratio of birds placed on control diet (2.55) and T (2.56) were the same (P>0.05) and are significantly better (P < 0.05) than 2 other treatments. Nitrogen, ether extract and ash retention were virtually the same for birds fed T T and T while energy retention was higher (P<0.05) in birds fed T (2,82MJ/Kg ME) 1, 2 3 1 than those fed T , T and T .The cost per Kg feed was higher in T (? 131.59) and decreased 2 3 4 1 with increase in inclusion of raw JFM; T (? 127.17), T (? 123.66) and T (? 123.24). Cost per 2 3 4 Kg weight gain, revenue and gross margin were the same for birds fed control and those fed with T . From the foregoing raw JFM is a potential feed resource and could be included in the 2 diet of broiler chicken up to 10% level of inclusion of soybean meal in a control diet.

Soy protein concentrate improves nutrient utilization and growth performance compared to soybean meal, and diets with a low crude protein (CP) level decreases diarrhoea. The objectives were to (1) test a low CP diet based on different soy products, and (2) to test a very-low CP diet (15.1%) with amino acids (AA) on diarrhoea and productivity. A total of 5,635 weaned pigs (~28 days), were assigned to five dietary treatments; PC (positive control): Standard CP levels (192, 189, 191 g/kg CP) with 2500 ppm ZnO; NC (negative control): Same as PC without ZnO; SP (Soy protein concentrate): Low CP levels (176, 174, 191 g/kg CP); SB (Soybean meal): Low CP levels (177, 176, 191 g/kg CP); and XLA (X-low CP + AA): Very low CP levels (154, 151, 191 g/kg CP) with AA. The PC and XLA diets reduced diarrhoea by 41 and 61%, respectively, compared to the NC group, while no difference between SB and SP were observed. The XLA diet reduced feed intake and daily gain compared with PC and NC, where SP, SB, and XLA had a poorer feed conversion compared with PC. Conclusively, the SP and SB low-protein diets did not reduce diarrhoea or growth performance, whereas the XLA diet decreased both diarrhoea and performance.
