In connection with the preparation andholding of Sochi Olympic Games-2014 there was a significant increase in children’s and youth sport schools.Today 24 children’s sports schools are already active in Sochi.Further development of youth sport cannot go on the only way of increasing the number of sportsschools. The development of youth sports could also be contributed by the establishment of sportsclubs ateducational institutions. Proper organizing of the educational process at primary school, high school, andvocational school is unthinkable without the involvement of young people to the sport necessary to improvetheir lifestyle and mental performance. In addition, the creation of such sport clubs will help youth sportschools to select young athletes morequalitatively, more effectively implement their natural potential and toprovide favorable conditions for the improvement in the chosen sport. Keywords:health, children’s and youth sports, sports schools, legacy of the Games, the Olympicfacilities.

Innovative solutions and techniques in the sports industry are commonly used and tested in real conditions. Elite athletes have to achieve their peak performance before the main competition of the year, which is the World Championship, and every fourth year before the Olympic Games, when the main competition of athletes takes place. The present study aims to analyze and evaluate the ability of elite kayakers to achieve the best form at the right times, with the Olympic Games taking the greatest importance. Target values for multiple measures of conditioning are compared to target values set by experts. A weighted least squares metric with weights varied by time period is developed as a measure of fulfillment of the athletes’ conditioning plans. The novelty of the paper is the idea of using linear combination of polynomials and trigonometric functions for approximating the target functions and application of the proposed methodology for the optimization and evaluation of athletic training.

The Santo Antonio de Padua natural stone cluster in the state of Rio de Janeiro is considered one of the most successful small mining initiatives in Brazil, having seen the creation of around 150 small- and medium-sized companies operating quarries and stone saw mills. Initially used as corral flooring material, the natural stone was later used in large urban projects such as the Porto Maravilha, a project supported by the city of Rio de Janeiro to modernize the city port before the 2016 Olympic Games. Such a step forward was made possible by a multistakeholder approach that brought together local stone business representatives, government agencies, non-governmental institutions, and other authorities that supported a regional development plan stablishing natural stone production as a priority. This paper describes historical events associated with the development of the Padua stone cluster that may offer practical examples for similar initiatives worldwide.

Introduction: Inadequate physical activity, eating disorders, irrational factors of the educational environment and a poor motivation for a healthy lifestyle are often observed among youngsters and act as their health risk factors. At the present stage, they hamper ensuring optimal living conditions and achieving better health of schoolchildren and require a new approach to solving the tasks. The objective of the study was to assess provision of sanitary and epidemiologic wellbeing at schools and health of schoolchildren to substantiate priorities for management decision making. Materials and methods: The study was conducted in two comprehensive schools of the city of Penza and involved 2,672 children and 720 parents. We used sanitary, hygienic, physiological, sociological, and statistical methods of research. Results: The level of sanitary and epidemiologic wellbeing in the experimental school with an up-to-date model of hygienic education and development of a healthy lifestyle integrated in the educational process where students have the opportunity to receive health-improving and rehabilitation medical care, was significantly higher than in the control one. Introduction of the new model of upbringing and functioning of the department for disease prevention and rehabilitation contributed to an increase in students’ motivation for a healthy lifestyle and skill consolidation in the behavior of youngsters as confirmed by a larger proportion of such students in the experimental school compared with the control one (75–89% against 50–74%, respectively; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Implementation of management decisions including the upgrade of the system of hygiene education, creation of a healthy lifestyle of students, and organization of the department for disease prevention and rehabilitation on the basis of the educational establishment had a positive effect on students’ health.

COVID-19 has dramatically altered and disrupted sport in unprecedented ways, and youth sports is one sector that has been profoundly impacted. In the United States, the youth sports industry generates $19 billion dollars annually, while youth sport tourism is estimated at $9 billion annually. With youth sports at a standstill, the effect on the youth sports infrastructure is significant. The purpose of this scholarly commentary was to discuss the psychological, developmental, and economic fallout from the stoppage of youth sports that has touched millions of participants, their families, and a substantial youth sports structural system. This work also addresses the potential restructuring of youth sport megacomplexes, cascading effects of canceled seasons, likely sponsorship losses, and potential growing socioeconomic divide in participation that could result from the pandemic. Thus, there is still much uncertainty about the future of youth sport participation and subsequent adjustments that may impact established participation and consumption norms.

Ras a1 Khaimah is the most northerly of the seven states comprising the United Arab Emirates and its Ruler, H. H. Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qasimi, is keenly interested in the history of the state and its people. Survey carried out there jointly with Dr D. B. Doe in 1968 had focused attention on the site of JuIfar which lies just north of the present town of Ras a1 Khaimah (de Cardi, 1971, 230-2). Julfar was in existence in Abbasid times and its importance as an entrep6t during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries-the Portuguese Period-is reflected by the quantity and variety of imported wares to be found among the ruins of the city. Most of the sites discovered during the survey dated from that period but a group of cairns near Ghalilah and some long gabled graves in the Shimal area to the north-east of the date-groves behind Ras a1 Khaimah (map, FIG. I) clearly represented a more distant past.
