Research background and hypothesis. Sports dances at the contest intensity demand great athletic fitness and functional capacity from dancers We still lack research about changes in the heart rate in the group of juvenile dancers’ while dancing  Standard and Latin American dances. The present study aims at verifying the hypothesis that while juvenile dancers dancing contest programmes, the heart rate is changeable and can reach to 160–190 beats/min and above, sports dancers consume much energy.Research aim was to investigate changes in the heart rate and energy consumption in the group of juvenile dancers while dancing Standard and Latin American dances. Research methods. The research participants were 16 dancers (8 girls and 8 boys). The age of girls was 9.88 (0.83) years, and that of boys – 9.86 (1.07) years. We established changes in the heart rate dancing Standard and Latin American dances. During continuous dancing we registered the heart rate using “Polar S 610” Heart Rate Monitor (Finland) with computer data registering system. According to the indices received from the heart rate monitor we calculated the average, maximal and minimal heart rate values and energy consumption (kcal) during the period of sports dancing programme. Research results. The data of HR analysis showed that during a 10-min model practice session dancing Standard and Latin American dances, the heart rate which remains the longest is 160–190 beats/min. During Latin American dances, energy outlay for girls was greater than that for boys (p < 0.05), but lower compared to those when the girls danced the Standard programme. Discussion and conclusions. In contest programmes of sports dancing, physical loads are of changing intensities and thus they have a big impact on the cardiovascular system of young dancers. At the threshold of anaerobic intensity, some moments of the dance are performed at greater intensity then the anaerobic threshold, and even critical intensity limit is reached.Keywords Standard dances, Latin American dances, intensity of physical load, heart rate, energy consumption.

A novel comprehensive care program after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) „KOS-zawał" was implemented in Poland. It includes acute intervention, complex revascularization, implantation of cardiovascular electronic devices (in case of indications), rehabilitation or hybrid telerehabilitation (HTR) and scheduled outpatient follow-up. HTR is a unique component of this program. The purpose of the pilot study was to evaluate a feasibility, safety and patients’ acceptance of HTR as component of a novel care program after AMI and to assess mortality in a one-year follow-up. Methods The study included 55 patients (LVEF 55.6 ± 6.8%; aged 57.5 ± 10.5 years). Patients underwent a 5-week HTR based on Nordic walking, consisting of an initial stage (1 week) conducted within an outpatient center and a basic stage (4-week) home-based telerehabilitation five times weekly. HTR was telemonitored with a device adjusted to register electrocardiogram (ECG) recording and to transmit data via mobile phone network to the monitoring center. The moments of automatic ECG registration were pre-set and coordinated with exercise training. The influence on physical capacity was assessed by comparing changes in functional capacity (METs) from the beginning and the end of HTR. Patients filled in a questionnaire in order to assess their acceptance of HTR at the end of telerehabilitation. Results HTR resulted in a significant improvement in functional capacity and workload duration in exercise test (Table). Safety: there were neither deaths nor adverse events during HTR. Patients accepted HTR, including the need for interactive everyday collaboration with the monitoring center. Prognosis all patients survived in a one-year follow-up. Conclusions Hybrid telerehabilitation is a feasible, safe form of rehabilitation, well accepted by patients. There were no deaths in a one-year follow-up. Chest bands have been the most used device to monitor heart rate during running. However, some runners feel uncomfortable with the use of bands due to the friction and pressure exerted on the chest. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine if the photoplethysmography (PPG) system Polar Precision Prime used in the Polar Vantage M watch could replace chest bands (Polar V800-H10) to monitor heart rate with the same precision. A group of 37 people, middle-distance and long-distance professional runners, participated in this study. The submaximal speed was determined using 50% of the participants’ maximum speed in the height of their season. The Polar Vantage M reported high correlation ( r > 0.84) and high ICC (ICC > 0.86) when comparing its heart rate monitor with the Polar V800 synchronised with H10 chest strap during recording intervals of more than 2 min. The systematic bias and random error were very small (<1 bpm), especially for the 600 s recording interval (0.26 ± 5.10 bpm). Nevertheless, the error increased for 10 s (−5.13 ± 9.20 bpm), 20 s (−8.65 ± 12.60 bpm) and 30 s (−10.71 ± 14.99 bpm) time intervals. In conclusion, the PPG Polar Precision Prime included in the Polar Vantage M demonstrates that it could be a valid alternative to chest bands for monitoring heart rate while running, taking into account some usage considerations, good strap adjustment and an initial calibration time during the first 2–3 min.

Abstract Background Inflammation caused by chronic lung disease in childhood may lead to delayed heart rate recovery (HRR) however, there is lack of evidence on HRR in this population. The aim was to assess HRR after functional capacity testing in asthmatic children and adolescents and to compare with severity and disease control. Method This was a study secondary to a randomized control trial. The modified shuttle test (MST) was performed to assess functional capacity and HRR. This is an externally cadenced test in which the distance walked is the outcome. HRR was assessed after MST and was defined as HR at exercise peak minus HR in the second minute after the end of exercise. Asthma control was assessed by the Asthma Control Test (ACT). Data normality was tested by Shapiro Wilk and the comparison between groups was made by Student’s t test or Mann Whitney test for numerical variables, and by Chi-square test for categorical variables. Statistical significance was considered when p < 0.05. SPSS version 20 was used in the analyzes. Results The sample included 77 patients diagnosed with asthma (asthma group - AG) who were regularly treated for asthma. Control group (CG) consisted of 44 volunteers considered healthy, matched in age and gender to AG. The median age of CG was 12 (10–14) years and in AG 11 (9–13 years) being classified as mild to moderate asthmatic, and 57% of the sample had controlled asthma by ACT. Distance walked in the CG was 952 ± 286 m and AG 799 ± 313 m, p = 0.001. HRR was more efficient in CG (79 ± 15 bpm) compared to AG (69 ± 12 bpm), p = 0.001. The mild (69 ± 12 beats) and severe (72 ± 15 beats) AG presented worse HRR compared to control group (79 ± 15 bpm), p < 0.05. Conclusions Asthmatic children and adolescents have delayed HRR after modified Shuttle test compared to their peers, suggesting that asthma leads to autonomic nervous system imbalance. This study examines the impact of financial development on energy consumption for a wide array of countries. The estimators used for financial development are foreign direct investment, economic growth and urbanization. The study employed a panel data regression on 136 countries with time frame of years 1990 to 2019. The model in this study deploys system GMM technique to estimate the model. The results show that financial development has a significant negative impact on energy consumption overall. Foreign direct investment and urbanization has significant impact on energy consumption. Also, economic growth positive impact on energy consumption its mean that economic growth promotes energy consumption. When dividing further the sample into different groups of regions such as Asian, European, African, North/Latin American and Caribbean countries then mixed results related to the nexus between financial development and energy consumption with respect to economic growth, urbanization and foreign direct investment. The policymakers in these different groups of countries must balance the relationship between energy supply and demand to achieving the sustainable economic development.

Purpose: Resting heart rate (HR), health related quality of life (HQoL) and NYHA functional capacity are referred as important determinants of prognosis and targets of therapy in heart failure (HF). REALITY HF (Resting Heart Rate and Real Life Treatment Modality in Outpatients with Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction) study data were analyzed for the evaluation of any relationship of resting HR with HQoL assessed by Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) and NYHA functional class. Methods: REALITY HF was a multicenter, prospective registry designed to evaluate HF patients’ characteristics and effects of treatment modalities on resting HR and enrolled 1057 patients (age 61±12 years) with LVEF <40%. 781 (74%) patients in sinus rhythm were included in this analysis. Patients were classified into 4 groups according to the quartiles of HR: Q1:<68 bpm (n=234), Q2:69-75 bpm (n=189), Q3:76-87 bpm (n=194) and Q4:>87 bpm (n=164). KCCQ was completed in a random sample of 320 (Q1:n=27, Q2:n=99, Q3:n=125, Q4:n=69) patients, in which higher scores show better patient’s health status. Results: During enrollment, 82% of patients were receiving ≥2 drugs including ACE[[Unable to Display Character: &#304;]]/ARB, beta blocker, aldosterone blocker, diuretic or digoxin. Resting HR was 76±14 bpm and 68% of patients had a resting HR ≥70 bpm. KCCQ overall summary score (OSC) was found to be 75.7±13.2 in those in Q1, 65.5±20.8 in Q2, 64.4±20.6 in Q3 and 58.3±21.2 in Q4 (p=0.004) and KCCQ clinical summary score (CSS) was 80.4±15.7 in those in Q1, 70.0±22.4 in Q2, 69.9±21.9 in Q3 and 63.8±23.3 in Q4 (p=0.016). Also, there was a significant negative correlation between resting HR and OSC (p=0.008) or CSS (p=0.031). The distribution of NYHA-I patients for Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 were 40.7%, 22.8%, 23.8% and 12.7%, NYHA-II patients-30.8%, 23.1%, 27.2% and 18.9%, NYHA-III patients-21.2%, 23.9%, 24.3% and 30.6% and NYHA-IV patients-22.7%, 34.1%, 22.7% and 20.5%, respectively (p<0.001). Also, resting HR were found to gradually and significantly increase across NYHA categories (72.8±12 bpm in NYHA-I, 76.1±13 bpm in NYHA-II, 80.2±15 bpm in NYHA-III and 78.9±16 bpm in NYHA-IV, p<0.001). Conclusions: These results suggest that elevated resting HR in HF patients is associated with impaired HQoL and worse NYHA functional capacity.

In order to understand how gaited horses use their energy during exercise, a standardised field gaited test (SFGT) was developed to assess energy expenditure of four beat gaited horses independently of size, sex or breed. This work aimed at developing such an SFGT, using as main measurement parameter the heart rate (HR) of horses during the SFGT performance. Thirty-one four beat gaited horses were evaluated and divided into two groups: FIT (conditioned) and UNFIT (not conditioned). Horses were submitted to the SFGT and their heart rates were measured with a heart rate monitor as follows: right after being mounted, at the beginning of pre-test (HRSADDLE); at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 minutes of four beat gait dislocation; and at 15 minutes after the recovery period (T+15). Maximum HR (HRMAX); HR percentage over 150 beats per minute (HR%≯150), HR percentage over 170 beats per minute (HR%≯170), and average HR during the four beat gait stage (HRM@M) of SFGT were calculated. Results were analysed by ANOVA for repeated measures. Where significant differences were observed, ‘T’ test was performed and significance was set at 5%. The FIT group presented HRMAX, HR+15, HRM@M, HR%≯150 and HR%≯170 rates lower (P<0.05) than the UNFIT group. It was noted that there was a negative correlation between fitness and HRMAX (R=−0.67; P<0.001) and a positive correlation between HRMAX and HR+15 (R=0.60; P<0.001) when comparing the FIT to the UNFIT horses. In conclusion, during the SFGT, the FIT group was more efficient in energy expenditure than the UNFIT group, based on the results observed for the significantly lower HRs during the SFGT. It is relevant to note that the SFGT developed and used in this research, which was easily reproduced and accurate, was able to detect and confirm important adaptations related to fitness in the athletic horse.
