Issues associated with boundaries abound nationally and internationally. It engulf almost all facet of life especially, property ownership. Boundaries are line that delineates surface area for the purpose of facilitating coordination and deconfliction of operations between adjacent units, formations or areas. These bounds are often than not dispute prone. Ownership claim seems to be the major cause of the conflict; and land mostly the object. Border conflicts however intensify due to inadequate government policies to curb incessant boundaries issues. The Nigerian Land Use Act of 1978 and the constitution of National Boundary Commission with its subsidiaries are still wanting in promoting peaceful coexistence especially, among those along border line. This research aims to draw government attention to gaps which need to be bridged in its policies concerning border issues. Descriptive data analysis was employ in this research.

BACKGROUND Helmet use is now viewed as an essential safety measure in almost all sports involving a high risk of impact and head trauma, from horseback riding to mountain biking, rock climbing and winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. For young skiers and snowboarders under the age of 14, the use of certified helmets is compulsory in Italian law, although no defined regulations exist for recreational sledding OBJECTIVE To review past and current regulations covering winter sports, to explore potential legal discrepancies in appraising factors related to helmet use in recreational activities by children under the age of 14, and to identify hazards connected with various types of sledding accidents METHODS Descriptive data of the cases of 16-year-old or younger adolescents injured while sledding without helmets were gathered from injury reports collected by ski patrols, pre-hospital emergency services and emergency departments, and compared with 53 cases of adolescents and children who went skiing and snowboarding wearing certified helmets, over two winter seasons (December to April, 2011-12 and 2012-13). Sledges were grouped into three categories:1) traditional wooden toboggans (hereafter called ‘traditional sleds’); 2) plastic sleds; 3) newly designed sleds (with inner tubes, plastic and hard foam sleds, snowskates, boardslides, runslides, snowblades, foam slides, etc.) RESULTS Descriptive data of the cases of 16-year-old or younger adolescents injured while sledding without helmets were gathered from injury reports collected by ski patrols, pre-hospital emergency services and emergency departments, and compared with 53 cases of adolescents and children who went skiing and snowboarding wearing certified helmets, over two winter seasons (December to April, 2011-12 and 2012-13). AbstractCOVID-19 is a serious problem that faced by almost all countries in the world. Since announced as a pandemic by WHO on March, the number of positive COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has reached 287,008 patients until the end of September 2020. COVID-19 cases dispersion depends on the local government policies and the awareness of the public to obey. About 60 percent of positive cases and 65 percent of death cases were in Java. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze the growth of the COVID-19 case in Java from March to September 2020 in relation to the local government policies. The results showed that six provinces in Java had the same pattern. The large-scale social restriction (PSBB), which was implemented since April 10 2020, seen to be able to contain the dispersion of cases because from April to June the positive cases did not increase significantly. A very high increase occurred in August and September, this was probably due to the easing of the PSBB become new-normal where various public places and facilities have been reopened. Meanwhile, death cases, the number is very high in mid-April and June and late July to September 2020. For cured cases, there was a significant increase in late August to September 2020. The importance of information about the growth of the COVID-19 cases can help government to formulate strategies and policies to prevent the dispersion of COVID-19.Keyword: COVID-19, Pandemic, Java, cases growth AbstrakCOVID-19 merupakan suatu masalah serius yang sedang dihadapi oleh hampir seluruh negara. Sejak diumumkan sebagai pandemi oleh WHO pada Maret lalu, jumlah kasus positif COVID-19 di Indonesia mencapai 287.008 pasien hingga akhir September. Penyebaran kasus COVID-19 sangat bergantung pada kebijakan yang ditetapkan oleh pemerintah serta kesadaran masyarakat untuk mematuhinya. Sebesar 60 persen kasus positif dan 65 persen kasus meninggal berada di Pulau Jawa. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis perkembangan kasus COVID-19 di Pulau Jawa sejak Bulan Maret-September 2020 dikaitkan dengan kebijakan pemerintah setempat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keenam provinsi memiliki pola yang sama. Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar (PSBB) yang dilakukan sejak 10 April 2020 terlihat dapat menahan penyebaran kasus karena pada bulan April-Juni 2020 kasus positif tidak mengalami kenaikan yang signifikan. Kenaikan yang sangat tinggi terjadi pada bulan Agustus dan September 2020, hal ini mungkin disebabkan oleh dilonggarkannya kebijakan PSBB menjadi PSBB Transisi dimana berbagai tempat dan fasilitas umum telah dibuka kembali. Sementara untuk kasus meninggal, angka tertinggi terjadi pada pertengahan April dan Juni serta akhir Juli hingga September 2020. Untuk kasus sembuh, terjadi peningkatan yang signifikan pada akhir Agustus hingga September 2020. Pentingnya informasi tentang perkembangan kasus COVID-19 ini dapat membantu pemerintah daerah untuk membuat strategi dan kebijakan untuk mencegah penyebaran rantai virus COVID-19.Kata Kunci: COVID-19, Pandemi, Jawa, perkembangan kasus

Almost all studies of the nation’s extreme inequality of income and wealth have overlooked a critical, overarching cause of the creation of The New Gilded Age. The permanent political class has driven and sustained economic and political inequality not only with the government policies it has crafted over the past four decades. It has created inequality by becoming a self-dealing, self-serving nepotistic oligarchy that is enabling the One Percent and the .01 Percent to create an American aristocracy of wealth. American Oligarchy describes a multifaceted culture of self-dealing and corruption reaching into every sector of American society. The political class’s direct creation of economic inequality by channeling the flow of income and wealth to elites, has been described extensively; less exposed has been how its self-aggrandizement indirectly—but hidden in plain sight—creates a culture of corruption that infects the entire society.

In resource-dependent regions, work camps have reshaped workforce recruitment and retention strategies and relationships with communities as they are increasingly deployed within municipal boundaries. This has prompted important, but controversial, questions about local government policies and regulations guiding workforce accommodations to support rapid growth in resource regions. Even as mobile workforces become more prevalent, however, few researchers have examined the development, operations, and decommissioning of these work camps. Drawing upon the experiences of local governments in Australia, Canada, Scotland, and the United States, this research examines how mobile workforces are shaping the opportunities and challenges of planning and local government operations through work camps integrated in mature staples-dependent resource regions. Our findings reveal that while some industries have taken the initiative to implement new protocols and operating procedures to improve the quality and safety of work camp environments, local governments have underdeveloped policy tools and capacities to guide the development, operations, and decommissioning of work camps. Failure to purposefully address work camps as a land-use issue, however, is significant for mature staples-dependent towns that ultimately fail to capture taxation revenues while incurring the accelerating costs for infrastructure and services associated with large mobile workforces.


This paper seeks to examine the effect of urbanization on changes in land use in the peri-urban areas of Varanasi city in India. The area of study is divided into six different classes of land use: built-up area, agriculture, vegetation, water bodies, sand and other land use. Using the maximum likelihood technique, Landsat 5 TM satellite data were used to identify land use and land cover changes from 1996 to 2017. The findings indicate a substantial increase in the built-up area, associated with reduced water and other land use cover. The urban sprawl is observed in almost all directions from the city boundaries, and along highways. Shannon’s entropy analysis reveals dispersed distribution of built-up area. The approach based on GIS and remote sensing data, together with statistical analysis, has proved instrumental in the analysis of urban expansion. It also helps to identify priority areas that require adequate planning for sustainable development.

AbstractMicrobial communities inhabiting above-ground parts of plants affect their host’s development, fitness and function. Although studies on plant-associated microbes are of growing interest, environmental drivers of flower microbiomes in particular are poorly characterized. In this study, we investigated flower and leaf epiphytic bacterial microbiomes of Ranunculus acris and Trifolium pratense using metabarcoding of 16S ribosomal DNA in three German bioregions and along land-use intensity gradients. Our data suggests that the structures of bacterial communities clearly differed between plant species and tissue types. Also, floral bacterial communities of R. acris showed higher variability in comparison to T. pratense. Bacteria usually associated with pollinators were found solely in flower samples, while such usually associated with the rhizosphere were only present in high abundances on leaves. We identified Pseudomonadaceae, Enterobacteriaceae and Sphingomonadaceae as the most abundant taxa on flowers, while Sphingomonadaceae, Methylobacteriaceae and Cytophagaceae dominated bacterial communities on leaves. We found strong bacterial turnover already for short geographic distances, which however did not increase with the long distances between bioregions. High land use intensity caused phylogenetically less diverse and more homogenous bacterial communities. This was associated with a loss of rare bacterial families. Intensification of mowing and fertilization affected almost all plant associated bacterial communities, while grazing had only minor effects on bacterial structures of T. pratense flowers. However, dominant taxa were mostly resilient to mowing, grazing and fertilization. Despite that, we identified indicator taxa for regularly disturbed environments in flower microbiomes.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused major changes in almost all aspects of human life, including the implementation of public services. Government policies that implement work from home (WFH) for government agencies located in areas with a certain risk of transmission, have caused public service activities to undergo changes. public services during the Covid-19 pandemic while maintaining health protocols has become a separate issue and has led to many innovations in the field of public services. One of the public services affected during the Covid-19 pandemic is marriage services at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA). Complaints from a number of communitiesaimed at marriage services at the KUA with suspected maladministration. This study aims to analyze marriage services at the KUA during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study was conducted using the literature study method with data sources for journal articles, government agency websites and related documents. Since the beginning of the pandemic period, the implementation of marriage services at the KUA has been regulated by three circular letters from the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religion, taking into account developments in the condition of the community. Online marriage registration is optimized, and is demonstrated by the high rate of registration of marriage registrations during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Urbanisation has led to increased traffic use and congestion in various cities around the world. Various policies and strategies have been implemented to address the issue. One of the most popular strategies is the development of transit system, including mass rapid transit (MRT) and light rapid transit (LRT).  To ensure the success of the transit system, the concept of Transit Oriented Development, in which land uses around the stations that are developed for urban development has been implemented. This paper evaluates a possible relationship between land uses around the station and ridership in selected stations along the Kelana Jaya LRT line in the Kuala Lumpur metropolitan area, Malaysia. The land uses around the station were calculated using Land Use and Public Transport Accessibility Index (LUPTAI). The research did not conclusively find a strong relationship between LUPTAI and ridership. This was perhaps due to the fact that almost all stations had been developed for urban land uses, such as commercial, residential and public facilities, thus giving all stations almost the same index figures. It is hope that a more detailed index that accounts for type and mixture of development on land, as well as the density for residential areas would probably give a better index result, as well as perhaps a stronger relationship with ridership figures.

<p>Almost all peatlands in the Netherlands are drained for agricultural purposes or in the past for peat extraction. What remains is a peatland area of about 300.000 ha of which 85 % is used for agriculture. As a result of peat oxidation, these areas are still subsiding by about 1 cm per year. Another effect is the enormous emission of CO<sub>2</sub>, which contributes to about 4% of total Dutch greenhouse gas emissions. With the awareness of a changing climate and the need for protection against flooding of coastal areas, solutions are being searched to reduce or stop peat oxidation and coinciding land subsidence and CO<sub>2</sub> emission.</p><p>In this presentation we will show four different management options which are currently being tested in the Netherlands. These options all focus on increasing the groundwater table to lower oxygen intrusion and consequently lower aerobic decomposition. Depending on crop choices water levels may need to stay 40 cm below the surface to maximize fodder plant yields. We expect a trade-off between land-use intensity (yields) and CO<sub>2</sub> emission reduction. The management options range from maintaining the current land-use by elevating summer water levels with submerged drainage pipes to the development of peat-forming plant species by complete rewetting. Data of the effects of these management options on CO<sub>2</sub> emission will be shown and with that the effectiveness of reducing peat oxidation.</p>

Abstract The selfish life-cycle model or hypothesis is, together with the dynasty or altruism model, the most widely used theoretical model of household behavior in economics, but does this model apply in the case of a country like Japan, which is said to have closer family ties than other countries? In this paper, we first provide a brief exposition of the simplest version of the selfish life-cycle model and then survey the literature on household saving and bequest behavior in Japan in order to answer this question. The paper finds that almost all of the available evidence suggests that the selfish life-cycle model applies to at least some extent in all countries but that there is more consistent support for this model in Japan than in the United States and other countries. It then explores possible explanations for why the life-cycle model is more consistently supported in Japan than in other countries, attributing this finding to government policies, institutional factors, economic factors, demographic factors, and cultural factors. Finally, it shows that the findings of the paper have many important implications for economic modeling and for government tax and expenditure policies.
