A szakképzés a rendszerváltozás óta jelentős átalakulásokat mutató oktatási ágazat, amely átalakulási folyamatnak egyik fontos lépese valósult meg 2015-ben, a centrumok létrejöttével. Az új rendszerben és működési struktúrában a felnőttoktatás a szakpolitika pioritásává vált. Kvantitatív kutatásunkban Hajdú-Bihar megye két centrumának tagintézményeiben tanuló felnőtteket vizsgáltuk (1002 válaszadó), így az empirikus munka andragógiai aspektussal is rendelkezik. A kutatási kérdések az intézmény- és szakmaválasztási motivációk; a tanulás folyamata, tanulási nehézségek; a munkaerő-piaci kilátások; és az oktatás értékelése kérdésköreire fókuszáltak.Vocational training has been an education sector that has undergone significant transformations since the change of regime, which was an important step in the transformation process in 2015, with the establishment of the centers. In the new system and operational structure, adult learning has become a policy priority. In our quantitative research, we examined adults studying in the member institutions of the two centers of Hajdú-Bihar county (1002 respondents), so the empirical work also has an andragogical aspect. Research questions include institutional and career choice motivations; the process of learning, learning difficulties; labor market prospects; and focused on issues of education evaluation.

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an introduction and overview to the aims of the Oxford Handbook of Philosophical and Qualitative Assessment in Music Education. Why philosophical and qualitative perspectives on assessment in or for music education? While there are numerous quantitative research projects that investigate assessment in or for music education, which are certainly important, they typically do not help us understand (which this volume does) the fundamental conceptual nature of and assumptions about music education assessment and music education evaluation across global contexts, which in turn shape and drive why and how students, and their actual and potential creativities, are harmfully or ethically impacted.

This qualitative phenomenological study examined the occupational downgrading experiences of six adult immigrants. Occupational downgrading happens when an individual’s occupation post immigration does not match his or her education credentials and previous professional experiences. The goal is to make sense of the participants’ narratives through the lens of possible selves theory. Therefore, the research questions guiding this study were (1) How do occupational downgrading experiences of immigrants shape their integration to the U.S. workforce? and (2) How can we make sense of the participants’ narratives through the lens of possible selves theory? Phenomenological interviews served as the main source for data collection. In addition, artifacts allowed the participants to enrich their stories. Themes that emerged from the participants’ occupational downgrading experiences include underemployment, shift in status, language barrier, feeling of discrimination, and lack of inspiration at the new job. Looking at past, present, and future selves, the participants’ narratives were examined first through identity transition processes: separation, transition, and reincorporation. The study adds to a developing body of literature focusing on the possible selves of adult immigrants experiencing occupational downgrading. In particular, they inform who is participating in adult education. Likewise, this study centralizes the immigrant as participant to adult learning; it provides new narratives of adults in transition.

This piece of research was specifically carried out in the field of translation pedagogy. It aims to measure the impact of attending and participating in translation conferences on translation education as perceived by a random sample of thirty-three translation instructors working at several universities in different countries. To this end, quantitative research method was employed in the study to yield answers to a couple of research questions. On this, the instructors were reached online to participate in responding to a researcher-made questionnaire of 18 - closed items. An SPSS analysis (version 24) was used to interpret the data elicited from the aforementioned research instrument. Having the data processed, the findings revealed that attending and participating in translation conferences is to be considered a major source for university translation programs to develop the implementation of translation didactics and pedagogies. Moreover, positive attitudes were developed in the study towards the practicality of integrating what could be seen innovative of translation conferences proceedings into translation education at the tertiary level. In the light of the study's findings, the researcher presents a number of pedagogical implications that would be taken into consideration to overhaul the existing university translation programs. Finally, a glance at some practical ideas is made for future research to explore new horizons in translation education in various teaching contexts.

This paper presents quantitative research results regarding a predictive model of pandemic disaster fear caused by the coronavirus disease (COVİD-19). The aim of this paper was to establish the level and impact of certain demographic and socioeconomic characteristics on pandemic disaster fear caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19). The research was conducted using a questionnaire that was provided and then collected online for 1226 respondents during May 2021. A closed, five-point Likert scale was used to create the structured questionnaire. The first section of the questionnaire included research questions about the participants’ socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, while the second section included issue questions about fear caused by COVID-19. The results of multivariate regression analyses showed the most important predictor for fear of COVID-19 to be gender, followed by age and education level. Furthermore, the results of t-tests showed statistically significant differences between men and women in terms of different aspects of pandemic disaster fear caused by the coronavirus disease. Our results have several significant public health implications. Women who were more educated and knowledgeable, married, and older, reported a greater fear of the outbreak at various levels. Decision-makers can use these findings to identify better strategic opportunities for pandemic disaster risk management.

Abstract The present article shows the findings of a basic quantitative research of the teachers’ research competence and its influence on higher educational institutions’ (hereafter: HEI) competitiveness on the sample of Kazakh University of International Relations &World Languages after Ablaikhan (hereafter: KazUIR&WL). Using the method of questionnaire, the study investigates the level of satisfaction of the students and parents with the education quality in KazUIR&WL, their needs and expectations, as well as shows the linkage between teachers’ research competence and the quality of education. The research involves 19 teachers, 70 students and 70 parents, who present their opinions by answering both open-ended and close-ended questions. The present research is inductive non-experimental and helps build a strong theoretical platform for generating further research questions. The main purpose of the research is mostly an assessment of the current situation in teaching English in Kazakhstan, with elements of evaluation and description. In this aspect, the current study can become a good scientific background for generating further research ideas in the sphere of education, linguistics, methodology, history, foreign culture studies and others. The method used in the present research is the method of questioning.

The purpose of this descriptive quantitative research was to systematically investigate the association among EFL learners' Self-Regulation (SR), Locus of Control (LC), and their Willingness to Communicate (WTC). To fulfill this purpose, 222 male and female EFL learners, within the age range of 20 to 32 (Mage = 26) were selected based on the convenience sampling strategy. These participants were asked to fill in three questionnaires, namely the English versions of the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (Pintrich, Smith, Garcia, & McKeachie, 1991), the Internal Control Index (Duttweiler, 1984), and the WTC Scale (McCroskey, 1992). Since the assumptions of normality of distribution were partially violated, the research questions were answered using parametric and non-parametric tests. The obtained results led the researchers to conclude that significant and positive correlations exist between SR and WTC, SR and LC, and LC and WTC. Furthermore, considering WTC the predicted variable, a regression analysis revealed that LC is a better predictor of WTC than SR. The study finally presents a discussion on the results and provides some implications for those engaged in EFL learning and instruction.

Prototyping is an essential part of product development in companies, and yet it is one of the least explored areas of design practice. There are limited ethnographic studies conducted within companies, specifically around the topic of prototyping. This is an empirical and industrial-based study using inductive ethnographic observations to further our understanding of the various roles prototypes play in organizations. This research observed the entire product development cycle within three companies in the fields of consumer electronics (CE), footwear (FW), and medical devices (MD). Our guiding research questions are: What is a prototype? What are the roles of prototypes across these three companies? Through our analysis, we uncovered that prototypes are tools for enhanced communication, increased learning, and informed decision-making. Specifically, we further refine these categories to display the types of communication, learning, and decision-making that occur. These insights are significant because they validate many prior prototyping theories and claims, while also adding new perspectives through further exploiting each role. Finally, we provide newly modified definitions of a prototype and prototyping based on this empirical work, which we hope expands designers' mental models for the terms.

This concluding chapter provides final remarks on the theoretical, legal, and practical challenges of European antitrust criminalization. It also determines five different research questions that should be addressed by future researchers. First, more detailed, reliable empirical evidence on the motivations of cartelists and whether or not they act in accordance with the rationality assumption of deterrence theory is required. Second, detailed qualitative and quantitative research concerning the usefulness of information exchange within the European Competition Network (ECN) would also be useful. Third, empirical evidence should be generated concerning whether consumers actually assume that their suppliers are not engaged in cartel activity with their competitors. Fourth, empirical studies on the extent to which risk aversion is a characteristic of corporate entities need to be pursued. Finally, empirical evidence on the cultural sensitivity of perceptions of cartel activity among the citizens of the different EU Member States would be welcome.

This small-scale exploratory study identified strategies used by three intellectually very able university students with specific learning difficulties for maintaining motivation on their path to achievement. All three participants were located in Hong Kong. The research questions were: (a) What coping strategies are used by intellectually very able university students with specific learning difficulties? (b) What are the critical influences driving and supporting their motivation to achieve? A narrative inquiry method was used to obtain and analyze data. Two gifted university graduates and one undergraduate, all with specific learning difficulties, were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire and open discussion. Data indicated that they developed strategies to cope largely in response to adverse learning environments. The support of significant persons, such as parents and teachers, were also seen to be essential for sustaining their motivation to achieve. Implications for supporting university students with specific learning difficulties are briefly discussed.
