Privatisation processes have begun in the last decades of last century. Many countries recognized the advantages of privatisation in the form of financial goals such as increasing state budget, lowering indebtedness and strengthening market economy. Furthermore, the presumption of privatisation is that private ownership is better for achieving higher profitability of a company. Financial statements are common expression tools for companies’ business performance and financial position. Since accounting information system is a system where business events should be recorded, main output of the system are basic financial statements. The main goal of this study was to investigate the impact of privatisation process on business performance on the example of the selected companies in the Republic of Croatia. For the purpose of the study, the theoretical analysis of privatisation effects on business performance was made. Other than that, the empirical analysis of the selected companies in Croatia was conducted. This analysis was performed in two ways. First, the analysis of the selected financial ratios before and after the privatisation process was done through quartile analysis. The observed financial ratios were gross profit margin, ROA, ROE, total assets turnover and total economy ratio. To gain the individual impact of the privatisation process a deeper analysis of the selected ratios was conducted on the same research sample. Research results based on quartile analysis indicated that there is a difference between profitability prior and after privatisation and the privatized companies are more successful than the observed state-owned companies. However, based on the individual analysis’ research results the hypothesis that privately owned companies are more successful than the state-owned companies is only partially confirmed.

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to study the impact of the transition to IFRS on financial assets and liabilities reported by non-financial companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. It uses data from the individual financial statements for the comparative year 2011, prepared under both Romanian accounting standards (RAS) and IFRS. Through a set of financial ratios involving information from balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement, we study how the IFRS adoption affected financial assets and liabilities. We also test the empirical correlation between profitability (measured by ROE) and financial assets/ liabilities before and after the transition to IFRS. We find that financial instruments are very little affected by the change in the accounting system. However, the association between ROE and financial assets/ liabilities is of greater intensity for the IFRS data.

The study aimed to measure the effect of applying the disclosure and transparency standards criteria adopted by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority on improving performance indicators in the Saudi banking sector, by measuring the extent of the impact of the bank's financial indicators represented by liquidity, profitability and return on assets in Saudi banks by applying the criteria of disclosure and transparency, which is one of the Main principles in the list of governance, which was approved by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority. The analytical approach was followed to achieve the goal of the study, as the financial statements of Saudi banks were analyzed during a period of 8-year to test four hypotheses related to measuring the presence of statistically significant differences between the performance indicators of banks before and after applying the disclosure and transparency standards imposed on Saudi banks. The results of the research confirmed the existence of an inverse relationship between the bank’s liquidity and the percentage of Saudi banks ’profits. The more liquidity, the lower the profitability level of banks, which indicates that the high liquidity in Saudi banks has led to a low profitability in this time period, and the study recommended that The need to pay attention to the concept of disclosure and transparency among all related parties in Saudi banks, and banks should find a balance between liquidity and profitability

The consequences of the floods that had affected the area of Serbia in 2014 indicated a very low level of preparedness of population to respond to natural disasters. Therefore, the aim of quantitative research is to examine the impact of fear on the willingness of citizens to respond to a natural disaster caused by the flood in the Republic of Serbia. Bearing in mind all local communities in Serbia where floods occurred or there is a high risk of flooding, there was selected a random sample consisting of 19 out of 150 municipalities and 23 towns and the city of Belgrade. In the selected communities, a research was undertaken in those areas that had been most affected in relation to the amount of water or potential risk of flooding. The survey used strategy of testing in households with the use of a multi- stage random sample. The research results indicate that the citizens who have a fear of floods are familiar with safety procedures to a greater extent in relation to citizens who do not have the fear; they have taken the preventive measures; they point out that they still are not ready to respond, but plan to do so in the next 6 months; they would evacuate to the upper floor of the house; they point out that someone in the family has educated them about the flood. In contrast to that, citizens who do not have the fear are not doing anything to prepare themselves to react in such situations, they are confident in their own abilities to cope with the consequences of floods, etc. The originality of the research lies in the fact that in Serbia there has never been conducted a research to examine the state of preparedness of citizens to respond. Bearing in mind that the research is based on the territory of Serbia, conclusions can be generalized to the entire population. The research results can be used when creating a strategy for improving the level of preparedness of citizens to respond.

The impact of natural disasters on individuals is substantial. Among the affected population in any disaster, children are identified as the most vulnerable group along with women, aged and disabled people. An estimated 77 million children under 15, on average, had their lives severely disrupted by a natural disaster or an armed conflict, each year, between 1991 and 2000 (Plan UK, 2003). Children are most affected since they loose the familiar environment, loss of parents, witness death of their loved ones, fear of reoccurrence of the disaster event. The impact of disaster on children of different age group is multiple times greater than that of the adults. This leads to various psychological problems in children (Dave et al., 2003). Disaster preparedness, through care givers, is one among the ways to reduce the distress of individuals followed by any disaster because it reduces the vulnerability factor that minimizes the impact of any disaster on the individual. A disaster preparedness program with special reference to psychosocial aspects was developed and implemented among the school children through teachers in Kanniyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, India, one of the severely affected areas in Tsunami. The current attempt was to standardize a disaster preparedness module focusing on preparing children to deal with their psychosocial issues before and after disaster in an effective manner. The outcome of disaster preparedness input through teachers and its reach out to the students was determined through an experimental research. The results reveal that the teachers and students from the experimental group gained significantly more knowledge on psychosocial disaster preparedness after implementation of the program in comparison to control group where the program was not implemented. The implications of the study points out the need to integrate psychosocial component of disaster preparedness in to the broader Community Based Disaster Preparedness (CBDP) programs.

This article examines the ‘republicanization’ of the Aveyron under the Third Republic, exploring issues of the practice and meaning of politics in this rural département. I look at the impact of the Republic's efforts to secularize education and ask on what grounds a département that emphatically rejected the secular/anti-clerical programme of the Republic could nonetheless eventually vote republican. This opens up questions of peasant understandings of politics. In particular I refer to the work of P. M. Jones who has written on this area, attributing republican success to the material benefits offered by the ‘milch-cow state’ and forceful administrative intervention. I argue that whilst the action of the Republic was significant, the success of the republicans rested on more than their ability to deliver local services. Republican politics in the Aveyron succeeded in redefining republicanism, arriving at an alternative conception of the Republic that was acceptable to the strongly Catholic and politicized electorate. We need to move away from any ideas of a single opportunist republicanism to realize that there were multiple conceptions of the Republic and a range of local republicanisms forged in relation to the circumstances of the individual French peripheries.

In the conditions of the Shirinsky District, monitoring was carried out for the first time for the change in number of helminthic diseases before and after fires. Fires have led to changes in the properties of the ground cover, soil, and simplification of communities; the complex of soil-dwelling arthropods has undergone a number of significant changes, which are manifested in a decrease in number and species diversity. The aim of the study is to determine the prevalence of various parasites in farm animals after large-scale fires on the example of the Shirinsky District of the Republic of Khakassia. The study subject was eggs, larvae and helminths of the studied animals. The study object was farm animals. The studies were carried out by the method of sequential washing of fecal samples. Based on the study results of 786 fecal samples from various animals, we received the following results. We have proved that the fire had a great impact on the parasitofauna of animals in the Shirinsky District; the number of invasive diseases first decreased after fires and then increased again. We found out that the decrease in number of parasitic diseases was associated with the following: fires had an adverse effect on the ecological state of the environment and changed the existence conditions of living organisms. The fire destroyed eggs, larvae and definitive hosts of the parasites.

Following the 2007 global financial crisis, more than 15 M&A transactions took place among financial institutions in the kingdom of Bahrain. This paper evaluates the impact of M&As on the financial performance of four such deals between banks in Bahrain. Data was collected from financial statements of the banks and the Bankscope database during 2004–2015. 15 accounting ratios were applied to CAMEL Rating Model approach. Financial modelling with Excel has been applied to test for the significance of changes in the financial performance of the banks three years before and three years after mergers. No significant difference in the financial performance of the local banks between pre and post M&As in the kingdom of Bahrain was observed. No significant difference in the financial performance of the acquirer bank or the target bank was observed except Bahraini Saudi Bank (target bank) which showed significant improvement in the financial performance after the merger with acquirer bank namely Al Salaam Bank. No significant change in the overall CAMEL ratios was observed for all banks involved in the M&As in Bahrain during 2004-15. The study provides an empirical analysis of the M&As before and after the mergers which can serve as a basis for further evaluation of future strategy of the banking sector in the kingdom of Bahrain.

The development of SMEs and home industries in Indonesia is so rapid, considering that most of the business scope is in this sector. However, the development of these SMEs has not been accompanied by progress in infrastructure, good governance, knowledge, and skills, so that the improvement in the business performance of these SMEs tends to be stagnant. Besides, changes in people's consumption patterns in the industrial era 4.0 caused a shift in the shopping lifestyle from people who shop directly at outlets and malls, to people who prefer the online shop. If UKM does not seize this opportunity, then its existence will be eroded by the times. Therefore, SMEs must be able to be proactive and improve its competitiveness by mastering ICT technology. This technology, such as social media (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.) plays an essential role in the promotion and marketing efforts. The primary purpose is to show the impact of knowledge transfer between universities (tutors) and UKM Dewi-Dewi (as trainees). The method used is to compare the proportions of participants' answers before and after the training. The results obtained indicate an increase in understanding of E-commerce, which is 80% to 96% or double that before training was held. Therefore, there is a need for further assistance so that the benefits of E-commerce training can be felt.Keywords: Dewi-Dewi UKM, Training, E-Commerce
