Carsharing: Business models, and role of the decision maker

Individuals' mobility needs are constantly increasing both in urban and in less-densely popu-lated areas. Private transport activities are intensifying, creating unsustainable environmental pressure and absorbing a too large amount of resources, forcing to social exclusion the popu-lation segments which cannot bear the cost of private transport. Car sharing has proven to be a viable solution to alleviate at least partially these problems. Many different business models are used to provide the service. Organizational and technical innovations have changed the market, opening the supply to new providers and serving segments of the latent demand which were not reached by the traditional operators. The role played by the decision marker to sup-port the development of this market in its various forms has been essential and will still be crit-ical in order to guide a smooth transition from the private use of traditional vehicles to the shared use of autonomous ones. The purpose of this paper is to shed light on these changing characteristics of the carsharing market with a special focus on the Italian context.

Tourist destination (TD) is considered the most important unit of analysis in tourism industry and the amalgam of tourism products, which offers an integrated travel experience for the customer. In this paper is analyzed the role of Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs), the key player in the tourism stakeholders systems which manage collaborative marketing strategies. Particularly, are recognized the destination branding strategies defined by DMOs, one of the most important organizational solution to manage internal and external relationships in tourism stakeholders systems. The theoretical assumptions of the paper are supported by an empirical research which analyzes, comparatively, the Italian DMOs of eight regional contexts. The goals of the empirical survey have been the following: a. to identify the main tourism players of regional stakeholders systems, deepening the nature and the intensity of marketing relationships in these networks; b. to define the main characteristics of the regional DMOs in Italy, in terms of business models and collective marketing strategies planned in the own networks; c. to categorize the destination branding strategies defined by DMOs in regional tourism stakeholders systems, valuating the main brand decisions carried out in these contexts.

Тhe article considers current scientific ideas of knowledge as a factor of development of information society. The special focus is on theoretical views about the place and role of knowledge in the information society. Review is carried based on the existence of the modern theories of the information society three aspects — aspects of the cost of the production aspect and anthropological aspect. From the above analysis it appears that the greatest development has received production aspect that sees knowledge factor in the development of society, which is implemented as a structural element of the production process. Thusthe main disadvantage of posted scientific understanding is not quite correct understanding of the researchers of the concept «knowledge» often differs from the concept of «information».

Lithium-ion capacitors (LICs) are considered to be one of the most promising energy storage devices which have the potential of integrating high energy of lithium-ion batteries and high power and long cycling life of supercapacitors into one system. However, the current LICs could only provide high power density at the cost of low energy density due to the sluggish Li+ diffusion and/or low electrical conductivity of the anode materials. Moreover, the serious capacity and kinetics imbalances between anode and cathode result in not only inferior rate performance but also unsatisfactory cycling stability. Therefore, designing high-power and structure stable anode materials is of great significance for practical LICs. Under this circumstance, graphene-based materials have been intensively explored as anodes in LICs due to their unique structure and outstanding electrochemical properties and attractive achievements have been made. In this review, the recent progresses of graphene-based anode materials for LICs are systematically summarized. Their synthesis procedure, structure and electrochemical performance are discussed with a special focus on the role of graphene. Finally, the outlook and remaining challenges are presented with some constructive guidelines for future research.

Primate individuals use a variety of strategies in intergroup encounters, from aggression to tolerance; however, recent focus on the evolution of either warfare or peace has come at the cost of characterizing this variability. Drawing on insights from across the Primate order, with special focus on our closest living relatives, we identify candidate selection pressures that may favor tolerance toward extra-group individuals. While similar ecological and social factors appear to explain some of the plasticity in behavior toward extra-group individuals in both humans and the non-human great apes, the prevalence of extra-group tolerance in humans requires additional explanation. Evidence suggests that the human foraging niche often required reliance on resources not locally available, favoring higher levels of tolerance in humans that are reinforced by cultural institutions. We identify data collection strategies and social science literatures that can help us better characterize the role of extra-group relationships in human sociality.

The term ?business model' has recently attracted increased attention in the context of financial reporting and was formally introduced into the IFRS literature when IFRS 9 Financial Instruments was published in November 2009. However, IFRS 9 did not fully define the term ‘business model'. Furthermore, the literature on business models is quite diverse. It has been conducted in largely isolated fashion; therefore, no generally accepted definition of ?business model' has emerged. Therefore, a better understanding of the notion itself should be developed before further investigating its potential role within financial reporting. The aim of this paper is to highlight some of the perceived key themes and to identify other bases for grouping/organizing the literature based on business models. The contributions this paper makes to the literature are twofold: first, it complements previous review papers on business models; second, it contains a clear position on the distinction between the notions of the business model and strategy, which many authors identify as a key element in better explaining and communicating the notion of the business model. In this author's opinion, the term ‘strategy' is a dynamic and forward-looking notion, a sort of directional roadmap for future courses of action, whereas, ‘business model' is a more static notion, reflecting the conceptualisation of the company's underlying core business logic. The conclusion contains the author's thoughts on the role of the business model in financial reporting.

This essay proposes that the picture of a broken circle encountered by Watt during the second part of his tale marks a crucial collision point between Beckett's literary and mathematical interests and triggers a process of fractal scaling self-similarity. Building on recent interest concerning the role of the mathematics and mathematical forms found in Beckett's work, I argue that the broken circle depicted in the picture from Watt is a geometric form which (re)appears within at least three interlocking scales throughout Beckett's novel-length prose: (i) its moment of arrival in the picture from Watt, (ii) a macroscopic reinscription in the names of the protagonists populating the five novels spanning Watt through to The Unnamable and (iii) buried within the narratological depths of How It Is. As a structural principle, the interminable irregularity of fractals offered Beckett a viable solution for what he considered the defining task of the modern artist: ‘to find a form to accommodate the mess’. Moreover, the specific shape selected for his fractal is shown to contain within its geometry one of Beckett's most universal and pressing concerns: the inevitable insufficiency of language. Therefore, although this essay restricts itself to examining Beckett's novel-length prose, the idea of a broken circle fractal promises to provide a valuable heuristic through which to reassess the author's other generic avenues. Fractals thus offer a means through which one can bind together the length and breadth of Beckett's oeuvre without ever reducing dynamic chaos to stable order.

Subject. The emergence of new ways of interaction between sellers and buyers, the formation of new sales channels and product promotion based on the use of digital economy tools is at the heart of improving the business processes. Social networks became a tool for development; their rapid growth necessitates theoretical understanding and identification of potential application in enterprise's business process digitalization. Objectives. We explore the role of social media in the digitalization of business processes, systematize the impact of social networks on business processes of enterprises in the digital economy. Methods. The theoretical and methodological analysis of social networks as a tool for digitalization of company's business processes rests on the content analysis of domestic and foreign scientific studies, comparison, generalization and systematization. Results. We highlight the key effects of the impact of social networks on the business processes of the company; show that the digitalization of business processes should be considered in the context of a value-based approach, aimed at creating a value through the algorithmization of company operations. We determine that social networks are one of the most important tools for digitalization of company's business processes, as they have a high organizational and management potential. We also systematize the effects of social media on company's business processes. Conclusions. We present theoretical provisions of the impact of social networks on business processes of enterprises, which will enable to model and organize ideas about the development of digital ecosystems and the formation of business models.

A majority of the black community of Dullstroom-Emnotweni in the Mpumalanga highveld in the east of South Africa trace their descent back to the southern Ndebele of the so-called ‘Mapoch Gronden’, who lost their land in the 1880s to become farm workers on their own land. A hundred years later, in 1980, descendants of the ‘Mapoggers’ settled in the newly built ‘township’ of Dullstroom, called Sakhelwe, finding jobs on the railways or as domestic workers. Oral interviews with the inhabitants of Sakhelwe – a name eventually abandoned in favour of Dullstroom- Emnotweni – testify to histories of transition from landowner to farmworker to unskilled labourer. The stories also highlight cultural conflicts between people of Ndebele, Pedi and Swazi descent and the influence of decades of subordination on local identities. Research projects conducted in this and the wider area of the eMakhazeni Local Municipality reveal the struggle to maintain religious, gender and youth identities in the face of competing political interests. Service delivery, higher education, space for women and the role of faith-based organisations in particular seem to be sites of contestation. Churches and their role in development and transformation, where they compete with political parties and state institutions, are the special focus of this study. They attempt to remain free from party politics, but are nevertheless co-opted into contra-culturing the lack of service delivery, poor standards of higher education and inadequate space for women, which are outside their traditional role of sustaining an oppressed community.
