The article aims to present some notes of psychology about Munchausen syndromes (MS) and Munchausen by Proxy (SMPP), seeking to understand the terms and symptoms. And, later, provide subsidies to health professionals for a possible intervention and treatment. From a review of the literature, through consultation of electronic data and published books available, prioritizing the texts from 1999 to 2019 on the subject. It is observed that the literature points to Munchausen Syndrome as a more common pathology than is diagnosed affecting well-informed individuals about the medication to be used for the treatment of the disease they believe they have. While in Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy the victims are children usually taken to the health service by their mothers or guardians. Improvement in care becomes essential, especially when the victim is the child.

The terms Munchausen syndrome by proxy and Polle syndrome have both been used to describe the situation in which one person persistently fabricates illness on behalf of another (usually a mother on behalf of her child). However, investigation of the family records of the real life Baron von Munchausen in Germany reveal that Polle syndrome is an inappropriate title originally derived from incorrect information.

In this study, the main aim is to shed light onto the Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome news case articles from Turkey and the USA as well as to increase awareness related to the topic. Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy is a form of child abuse and as the perpetrator of the abuse mostly a parent of the victim, it is not easy to prove the abuse by the medical staff. Most of the time, the perpetrator is ‘mother’ of the child, who fabricates a story about the child’s sickness and seeks for medical attention for the child.

This concluding chapter discusses the interdisciplinary approach taken towards the subject of breastfeeding and how these can contribute to policy and academic study. It shares some of the dialogue and enthusiasm with people who could use it in their everyday life/work supporting women who breastfeed their babies. This chapter shows how each contributor to this book presented their work during the six seminars and otherwise participated in an ongoing conversation on the topic of breastfeeding over the life of the series. Other practitioners have provided insight and reflection into the usefulness of the academic work for policy makers and practitioners. ‘Practitioner’ here is interpreted in the widest sense, to refer to breastfeeding support delivered by health professionals, breastfeeding peer and other supporters, infant feeding leads in National Health Service (NHS) hospitals/community services, and local authority managers. The chapter also reveals the many connections between chapters in different sections, and across the book, though there are many others that readers are encouraged draw themselves.

Anyone who wants to get ahead in academic or professional life today knows that it’s a question of publish or perish. This applies to colleges, universities, and even hospital Trusts. Yet writing for publication is one of the many skills which isn’t formally taught. Once beyond undergraduate level, it’s normally assumed that you will pick up the necessary skills as you go along.Writing for Academic Journalsseeks to rectify this omission. Rowena Murray is an experienced writer on the subject (author of How to Write a Thesis and How to Survive Your Viva) and she is well aware of the time pressures people are under in their professional lives. What she has to say should be encouraging for those people in ‘new’ universities, people working in disciplines which have only recently been considered academic, and those in professions such as the health service which are under pressure to become more academic.
