These two generations were the ones, who in the years 1980–83 were at a pre-school age and are now parents of children of the same age in 2010–2013. The analysis of the lexical score and language consciousness conducted from a thirty years’ perspective gave unexpected results which suggest the need to revise Baudouin de Courtenay’s thesis, according to which children’s language is a kind of projection of adult users language representing the next generation. Made confrontations done show how many new words which were not used by the previous generation, i.e. parents appear in the lexical score and in consciousness of today pre-schools.

Abstract This study focuses on parent-child argumentation to identify the argumentative strategies most frequently used by parents to resolve in their favor the process of negotiation occurring during argumentative dialogues with their children at mealtime. Findings of the analysis of 132 argumentative dialogues indicate that parents mostly use arguments based on the notions of quality and quantity in food-related discussions. The parents use other types of arguments such as the appeal to consistency, the arguments from authority, and the arguments from analogy, in discussions related to the teaching of correct behaviors in social situations within and outside the family context. The results of this study show how parents and children contribute to co-constructing the dialogic process of negotiating their divergent opinions.

Parents and children in families must manage private information about sensitive topics. This privacy management can necessitate both individual and collective privacy rules. However, parents and children may have significantly different views of individual and collective privacy boundaries and rules for managing them. Particularly for adolescents, changing expectations and privacy needs may lead to different perceptions of privacy rules, with various relational consequences. To better understand parents’ and children’s perceptions of privacy rules in the family, this study analyzed individual interviews with 41 parent–adolescent dyads to provide a crystallized view of privacy rules in families. Parents’ and adolescents’ perceptions of privacy management both converged and diverged in this study, and reflected the nature of the parent–child relationships. When privacy rules could not be reconciled, there were both relational and privacy management implications.
