Media has a function to attract the students' attention and help them understand the material easier. However, many teachers cannot used the media properly, especially for students with hearing impairment who had problem in doing subtraction. This was an experimental research with pre-experimental design or quasi experiment. The purpose of this research was to reveal the effect of using numerical card puzzles and know the differences between two different variables. The design was one group pre-test posttest which control class was also experimental class. The research was conducted at class V with five students who have hearing impairment. The sample was chosen by using a total sampling method. The data was analyzed by using Mann Whitney with 95% and α= 0.005.The research result shows that: first, the students learning results were low when the teacher use blackboard as media. Second, student’s learning results improved significantly when the teacher used numerical card puzzles. The test showed that Ucount= 25 and Utable = 8. Based on the test, the hypothesis is accepted with Ucount ≥ Utable can be concluded that numerical card puzzles is effective to improve student with hearing impairment.

Two questionnaires were used, one for the teachers and the other for the HI students. A pilot study was conducted to assess the validity and reliability of research instruments. Data was analyzed descriptively with the help of SPSS version 25. The results were presented in tables and figures in form frequencies and percentages. Results from the respondents established that there were variations in the KSL which were brought about by the family background, the teachers’ interactions, peers and friends, the curriculum and also regional variations. It was also established that the variations affected the way the students receive and respond to various concepts during teaching and learning process which affected their academic performance. The researcher gave pre-test before giving treatment and post-test after giving treatment. The treatment was conducted in three meetings. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The research result and the hypothesis authentication found by using t-test formula in significant level 5% or α = 0.05 were obtained that ttest > ttable. The ttest found in this research was 3.91. Meanwhile, ttable was gotten from the list of distribution value with degree of freedom = 47, because the data not in the table, the researcher used interpolation approach and obtained = 1.67. So >  = 3.91 > 1.67. It meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Second language learners especially in English language need further language support in view of the fact that they operate on the performance level of language use as against competence. Achieving success in the teaching and learning of a second language such as English is determined by a number of linguistic and nonlinguistic factors such as the attitude and language skills of the learners, the teacher’s innovativeness and competence, effective teaching methods and materials such as visual, audio-visual aids and media aids to language learning. This research is motivated by the problem inherent in the traditional teaching methods which is stereotypical, boring with little active students’ engagement in the learning process, which makes knowledge transfer an arduous task. The research represents a shift in language teaching and learning - from the known traditional to a more technological mode of learning- giving way to new technologies in which the media plays a prominent role. The work adopts a qualitative methodology in assessing the role of the media in language teaching and learning both on the part of the students as well the teacher, especially in terms of self-development and innovations. It was discovered that media aids in language learning, facilitates the overall learning process and helps the teacher to transcend his limitations in areas such as pronunciation, vocabulary to be able to guide the students aright. This makes learning an ongoing process rather than a product.
