PurposeThe present study aims to examine the current digital information literacy (DIL) skills of female online shoppers in Lahore city of Pakistan. Data were gathered from a purposive sampling of women, aged between 20–50 years who were buying products online, not from the traditional retail stores. Out of 309 received questionnaires, 269 responses were useable and were utilized for data analysis. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to deduce inferences.Design/methodology/approachQuantitative research approach was employed for this study, and a survey was conducted to collect the data from the study's respondents. For data analysis, descriptive and inferential statistics were used.FindingsResults revealed that the digital information literacy skills of women were good to a moderate level. However, they were not confident in applying advanced searching options. In accordance with what was hypothesized in a directional hypothesis, DIL was found to be a strong predictor of online shopping behavior of women, consequently highlighting the importance of such competencies in modern life. Other findings illustrate that participating women rarely engaged in online shopping and felt hesitation in using credit/debit card for online transactions.Research limitations/implicationsThese observations highlight the important role of information professionals in creating digital literacy among different population groups, specifically women, by planning digital information instruction through courses, workshops and trainings. This could eventually be possible with the dynamic role of librarians or information professionals in the society.Originality/valueThe present study adopts the unique approach of measuring online shopping behavior of female shoppers in connection with their digital information literacy skills.

There have recently been increasing numbers of published articles lamenting school students’ lack of information literacy skills. All strongly state the urgent need for improvement. The problem may arise from classroom teachers’ lack of knowledge of information literacy skills and their related pedagogical practice but there is little research. This presentation reports on a project, involving a cluster of New Zealand schools, which investigated both teacher’s and students’ understanding of information literacy and classroom practices. The results have established the need for better teacher understanding and practice. One solution will be to trial appropriate professional development.

The purpose of this research is to find out the role of inspiring home reading parks in realizing information literacy skills for children in Bungkutoko Village. This research method is descriptive qualitative with descriptive method. The technique of determining informants is done by purposive sampling or determination directly by researchers to be informants, data collection is done through observations and interviews in the Community Reading Park Of Rumah Inspirasi Bungkutoko VillageThe results of this research show that, the Community Reading Park Rumah Inspirasi in Bungkutoko Village as one of the Community Reading Parks in Southeast Sulawesi participated in realizing information literacy in children consistently and forming children's personal to be confident. Of the four indicators have been well applied in terms of information, where in this study home volunteers provide inspiration information that children need. Both serve as places of expanding insight and knowledge in this inspiring home volunteers providing reading material that suits children. The third serves as an educational entertainment place in this indicator usually children play while learning for example such as playing guessing numbers and letters, the fourth serves as a coaching character and moral indicators discuss about the importance of shaping children's character and that is where we must also introduce to children the importance of preserving culture, preserving culture and others. In the sense that the park read inspiring houses in Bungkutoko Village is very helpful for the community in the area especially children who must be met their needs by providing educational reading materials so that the literacy of information he gets is more widespread.Key Words:  Role, Garden Read House Inspiration, Information Literacy

Libraries provide the platform on which successful education systems are built through the provision of access to information. The ability to provide equal and nondiscriminatory access to library resources and services is the hallmark of modern librarianship. School libraries must be prepared to serve children with specific disabilities, such as visually impaired students who will need special types of technology and other specialized services. This preparation is even more important with the push for inclusion and the corresponding increase in children with disabilities attending regular (vs. specialized) schools and utilizing the school library resources. Thus, this chapter examines the role of school libraries in empowering visually impaired children with lifelong information literacy skills as a part of inclusive education.

New education models based essentially on competencies and skills are gradually displacing the old systems based on teacher instruction and passive and memory-based learning in students, as these new competencies allow the student to learn actively with better levels of performance. We consider abstracting as a transcendent learning tool to analyze the basic role of information analysis and synthesis skills within the learning processes and their relation to the abstracting processes. Using an action-research methodology, we analyze the abstracting skill of students on the first and final courses of the Faculty of Library and Information Science at the University of Granada (Spain). Based on postulates from information literacy, analysis and synthesis competencies are studied through the students' modus operandi at the different abstracting stages. Similarities and differences between the two groups of students are perceived and displayed, with reference to the relation between the learned subjects and the levels of competence and skill. In the light of these results, meaningful patterns and recommendations for improving students' skill levels are proposed.

This paper reports a study of information literacy practices in Canadian public libraries. The project explored the actual and potential role of public libraries in developing the public’s information literacy skills, and included a national survey of instruction and visits to public libraries where staff and library customers were interviewed.Cet article présente une étude sur les pratiques de la culture de l’information dans les bibliothèques publiques canadiennes. Le projet a exploré le rôle actuel et potentiel des bibliothèques publiques dans le développement de la compétence en matière de culture de l’information, et inclus un sondage national sur l’enseignement et les visites dans les bibliothèques publiques où le personnel et les usagers des bibliothèques ont été interviewés.

The 2017 Standards Framework for Learners designed by the American Association of School Librarians offers educators a support guide for creating, implementing and assessing meaningful, structured learning tasks focused on important information literacy skills for students. In this study, we use the Curate element of the AASL Standards Framework for Learners as a lens to analyse students’ voices and experiences while engaged in a Guided Inquiry unit, focusing particularly on their information seeking and use. Findings indicate students have sophisticated understandings of their own information literacy skills, how they engage with information, and the skills needed to be efficient curators of information, but they feel challenged and unconfident about their own skills in completing research tasks. These findings support the role of the school librarian in scaffolding young researchers through this process.
