Broad Variation

The broad variation in phenotypes and severities within autism spectrum disorders suggests the involvement of multiple predisposing factors, interacting in complex ways with normal developmental courses and gradients. Identification of these factors, and the common developmental path into which they feed, is hampered by the large degrees of convergence from causal factors to altered brain development, and divergence from abnormal brain development into altered cognition and behaviour. Genetic, neurochemical, neuroimaging and behavioural findings on autism, as well as studies of normal development and of genetic syndromes that share symptoms with autism, offer hypotheses as to the nature of causal factors and their possible effects on the structure and dynamics of neural systems. Such alterations in neural properties may in turn perturb activity-dependent development, giving rise to a complex behavioural syndrome many steps removed from the root causes. Animal models based on genetic, neurochemical, neurophysiological, and behavioural manipulations offer the possibility of exploring these developmental processes in detail, as do human studies addressing endophenotypes beyond the diagnosis itself.

The glomus tumor is considered to be the most common of all tumors that involve the middle ear. This report defines the glomus tumor and discusses the symptomatology of the tumor with respect to the various developmental courses it may follow. Forty clinical cases of glomus tumor are reviewed, with emphasis upon the incidence of the tumor and its symptoms, including the audiological manifestations noted in this series of cases. Current medical management of the glomus tumor recommends surgical removal of the lesion when possible; however, irradiation and embolization of the tumor may also be considered when its invasion into surrounding structures has been extensive. The pathology and its treatment may have marked temporary or permanent effects upon the hearing of the patient, and the importance of ongoing audiological management is therefore emphasized.

Remedial Intervention

College and career readiness is a focal area within the United States for student achievement within the context of global competitiveness. Despite recent efforts to focus on the college and career readiness of America’s students, national data has proven that many students are not prepared for college and need remedial intervention upon entrance into college. This discussion focuses on efforts at community colleges, specifically in the area of literacy, as they work to increase student retention and student success. Recent methods include developmental courses, co-requisite models, and statewide initiatives to determine how to best meet students’ academic needs, while considering faculty voice and administrative and cost efficiency. Community colleges can serve as grounds to determine how various models of remediation work to ensure that college students can be served in the best capacity for their academic needs, excel in their programs of choice, and in turn, be competitive global citizens.

The importance of the research lies in globalization that affected all aspects of life including sports. The research aimed at building sport globalization scale as well as identifying sport globalization. The researchers used the descriptive on (373) members representing (25) Olympic federation and (22) non-Olympic federation.  The data was collected and treated to conclude a sport globalization scale that can be applied to the subjects in addition to that, there are positive and negative effects of sport globalization on the sports community. The researchers recommended the necessity of using the sport globalization scale, holding developmental courses, benefiting from the advantages of globalization, and making similar studies on other subjects.

While developmental education in community colleges has the potential to prepare students for college-level work, its effectiveness and need is often questioned. Further, while Latinx students are overrepresented in developmental courses, there is a dearth of literature on their experiences in such courses and how to effectively serve their needs in developmental contexts. This article provides an overview of the literature related to Latinx students in developmental writing to point out areas that have been understudied and then introduces an Empowerment Framework for Latinx students, a model which combines a deeper understanding of language, power, and preparing Latinx students for college-level writing.
