Background: Gambir (Uncaria gambir) is empirically used to treat abdominal pain and vomittus caused by gastritis because of its anti-inflammatory effects, especially flavonoid. This study aims to determine the effect of active gambir fraction on TNF-α protein expression and wound size in white rats gastritis model. Methods: The research method used experimental study design in vivo with post test with control group design. Rats were divided randomly in 11 groups and were induced to be gastritis for 1 day. Group 1 (negative control) was given aquadest of 5 mL, group 2 (positive control) was administered ranitidine 10 mg/kgBW, groups 3, 4, and 5 were given n-hexane fraction, groups 6, 7 and 8 were given a water fraction, and groups of 9, 10, and 11 were given ethyl fractions with each group receives dose of 20, 40, and 80 mg/kgBW and all groups were treated for 3 days. Rats were dissected on 5th day for examination of gastric mucosal lesion size and performed ELISA expression of TNF-α expression of gastric mucosal tissue. The results of this study were assayed by SPSS 18. Results: The result of the research using Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there were significant differences (p <0.05) of the lesions size between the sample groups where  control positive, ethyl fraction 20, 40, 80 mg/kgBW, and water fraction 20, 40 mg/kgBB had the gastric ​​mucosal lesion size differed significantly with the negative control group, while the TNF-α protein expression test  using Kruskal-Wallis showed that there was a significant difference (p <0.05) TNF-α levels of all groups against the negative control. Conclusion: Active gambir fraction had a potention to reduce size of mucose gaster lesion and reduce expression of TNF-α protein.   Keywords: Gambir – TNF-α – antiinflamatory – gastiritis

Chitosan is one of the most abundant and dispersed polymers in nature. It has a rapid healing effect for tissues and has an effect on bone remodeling. The purpose of this study was to prove that giving chitosan influenced the decrease of osteoclast number and increasing number of osteoblasts in female mice of wistar strain of ovariectomy menopause model.This study used a posttest only control group design. The total sample of 30 rats divided into three groups was randomized, osteoporosis was made with the menopausal model which was performed ovariectomy in the positive control group and the treatment group then in the treatment group was given chitosan extract of single dose of 45 mg / day via Nasogastric Tube (NGT). K1 was a negative control group (without ovariectomy and without chitosan), K2 was a positive control group (with no chitosan ovariectomy), K3 was the treatment group (ovariectomy and chitosan 45 mg / day).The results showed significant differences in the number of osteoblasts between K1 and K3, K2 with K3, and no significant differences were found in the K1 group with K2. While the number of osteoclasts showed that there were significant differences in K1 group with K2 and no significant difference was found in K1 group with K3, K2 with K3.Conclusions in this study showed that 45 mg / day of chitosan doses could significantly increase osteoblast counts in menopause female white rats and decrease the number of osteoclasts performed by ovariectomy with chitosan administration.

The using of plant-based medicine is a popular approach to health care. A study presented by American Hearth Association showing that brown rice can lower cholesterol level in bood serum. To know the benefi ts of Angkak’s steeping water to decrease serum cholesterol levels in mice and determine the effects of Angkak’s steeping water to decrease serum cholesterol levels in rats compared with simvastatin. This study used an experimental research design, and using pre and post test control group design, performed in the laboratory of biomedical III FK UMS on November 1, 2012 to date of January 1, 2013. The purposive sampling technique, sampel determinaton using formula Federer by the number of sample of 30 male white rats wistar strain. After the data is collected, analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, ANOVA, LSD, and the unpaired t test. The result of this study demnstrate hypothesis testing using ANOVA test with signifi cant level 95% of the negative control group, the treatment group a dose of 1, 2, and 3, it was found p<0,05 were signifi cantly different meaning. In the test dose of LSD between treatment groups 2 and 3 the value of p=0,839 (p>0,05) wich means no signifi cant difference. In the unpaired T test between the treatment group a dose of 1, 2, and 3 with positive control group were signifi cant difference. The unpaired T test between the treatment group a dose of 1, 2, and 3 with white rice also found signifi cant difference. Conclusion: Angkak’s steeping water can lower serum cholesterol levels of white rat as well as the water steepimg Angkak has the same effectiveness with simvastatin to decrease serum cholesterol levels of mice.Keyword: Cholesterol, Angkak

This study aim was to determine the influence ant nest plant extract (Myrmecodia pendans) on histopathological changeof white rat liver (Rattus novergicus) due to induced with paracetamol toxic dose. This study used 24 male white rats, divided into four groups, negative control group (P0) given placebo, positive control group (P1) given paracetamol dose 250 mg / kg bw for 10 days, P2 given ant nest extract 250 mg / kg bw and paracetamol dose 250 mg / kg bw for 10 days, P3 given ants nest extract 250 mg / kg bw for seven days, then continued by giving paracetamol and ants nest extract with dose 250 mg / kg bw for ten days. After the treatment done, all the rats were dinecropsed. Liver organs were taken and processed for making histopathology preparations. Parameters examined included hemorrhage, congestion, degeneration and necrosis. The data obtained were analyzed statistically by using Kruskal Wallis test followed by Mann Whitney test. Mann Whitney test results for all categories of histopathologic changes in  hemorrhagic, congestion, degeneration, and necrosis between negative control group (P0) and positive control group (P1) were significantly different (P <0.05), between negative control (P0) with P2 and P3 there was no significant difference (P> 0,05). Afterward, between the positive control (P1) and P2 with P3 there was a significant difference (P <0.05). I can be concludedthat the administration of paracetamol dose 250 mg/kg bw for 10 days affects the histopathologic changes of white rat liver. The administration of ant nest plant extracts can reduce the side effects of toxic doses of paracetamol.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) antibacterial power of soursop leaf extract on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) ATCC® 6514™ growth.Methods: This study was experimental laboratory with post-test only control group design and consists of 8 treatment groups that were soursop leaf extract group with concentration 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, and 1.5625% as well as negative control groups were brain heart infusion broth (BHIB) media and chlorhexidine as positive controls. Each treatment was done 3 repetitions. Testing the effectiveness of soursop leaf extract using dilution methods on BHIB and subculture media on Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) media. The number of Aa ATCC® 6514 ™ colonies was calculated manually using the total plate count method on the MHA media. Data were analyzed using Kruskal–Wallis test (p<0.05) followed by least significance different (LSD) test to see the significant mean difference between treatment groups.Results: Concentration of MIC from soursop leaf extract on Aa ATCC® 6514™ growth was 1.5625% and MBC was 6.25%. LSD assay results showed significant difference effect (p<0.05) Aa ATCC® 6514™ from each treatment group.Conclusion: Soursop leaf extract has antibacterial effectivity against Aa ATCC® 6514 ™.

The research purpose was to analysis effect of giving mahkota dewa fruits (Phaleria macrocarpa) extract to epithelialization in incision wound of white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The method was randomized posted-only control group design. There were 30 male rats (Rattus norvegicus) grouped on control and treatment group. Control group divided into three groups (KK1, KK2, KK3) and also treatment group divided into three groups (KP1, KP2, KP3). Control group just given CMC 1% peroral without mahkota dewa fruits extract, the treatment group given mahkota dewa fruits extract 22.5 mg/kg body weight. The data was analyzed by Kruskall Wallis. Based on Kruskall Wallis test, obtained result that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) epithelialization variable with p value p = 0.000 between control and treatment group. And based on One-way Anova test, obtained result that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) with p value p =0.000 between control and treatment group. Background: Ethanol extract of binjai leaves contain bioactive compounds in the form of flavonoid and saponin which is potential as anti-inflammatory, so it will be able to control the wound healing process. Binjai leaves extract can affect the number of neutrophil on inflammatory phase, as it is characterized by neutrophil cells infiltration to the wound tissue, so its number will increase at the beginning of inflammatory phase and decrease on the 3rd day. Objective: To prove the effect of binjai leaves extract in 1 mg/mL, 2 mg/mL, and 3 mg/mL which given topically to the number of neutrophil in day 1, 3, and 5 of wound incision on the back of male mice. Methods: The study design was a pure laboratory experimental study with post-test only with control group design which involved 36 mice divided into 4 groups: negative control group design which was given BR2 feed, treatment group which was given binjai leaves extract in 1 mg/mL, 2 mg/mL, and 3 mg/mL. Results: The result of One-way ANOVA showed that there was significant difference of all groups in day 1 (p=0.000), day 3 (p=0.001), and day 5 (p=0.000). Post-Hoc LSD test showed that there was significant difference (p<0.05) between the negative control group and treatment groups. Conclusion: Binjai leaves extract has an effect to increase the number of neutrophil in day 1 and decrease the number of neutrophil in day 3 and 5 on the healing of back wound incision in mice.

Abstract: Porosity Of Acrylic Resin After Immersion In The Boiled Water Of Betel Leaves And Siwak Wood. Denture acrylic resin can be a collection point for stain, tar, and plaque and this will adversely affect the oral health of the denture wearer. One way to clean the oral cavity of denture users is to use mouthwash and soak the teeth with a cleaning solution/denture cleanser. Mouthwash solutions and chemical-based cleaning solutions at relatively high prices, and affect the porosity of dentures. Therefore, the need for alternative materials that are safe, cheap, natural as well as having antimicrobial function without affecting the level of porosity of denture. This study was to determine the effect of the combination of boiled water of betel leaves and siwak wood to the porosity of the acrylic resin plate. This study was an experimental study, posttest only design with the control group has been done at the integrated laboratory of Poltekkes Tanjungkarang, July – December 2015. Data were analyzed by One Way ANOVA and continued with Least Significant Difference test. The results showed that the combination of betel leaves and siwak wood does not affect the porosity of the acrylic resin plate. The highest concentration of the combination of betel leaf water and siwak wood that did not differ significantly with negative control (aquades) was 75% with longest immersion period was 59 days. Abstrak: Porositas Lempeng Resin Akrilik Pasca Perendaman Rebusan Daun Sirih Dan Kayu Siwak. Gigi tiruan resin akrilik dapat menjadi tempat pengumpulan stain, tar, dan plak dan hal ini akan berpengaruh jelek terhadap kesehatan mulut pemakai gigi tiruan. Salah satu cara menjaga kebersihan rongga mulut pengguna gigi tiruan adalah dengan menggunakan obat kumur dan merendam gigi-tiruan tersebut dengan larutan pembersih/denture cleanser. Larutan obat kumur dan larutan pembersih berbahan dasar dari bahan kimia dengan harga yang relatif mahal, serta mempengaruhi porositas gigi tiruan. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya bahan alternatif yang aman, murah, alami sekaligus memiliki fungsi antimikroba dengan tanpa mempengaruhi tingkat porositas gigi tiruan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh kombinasi air rebusan daun sirih dan kayu siwak terhadap porositas lempeng resin akrilik. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental, rancangan post test only with control group design, dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Terpadu Poltekkes Tanjungkarang, Juli-Desember 2015. Analisis data dengan uji One Way ANOVA dan dilanjutkan uji Least Significant Difference. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi air rebusan daun sirih dan kayu siwak tidak mempengaruhi porositas lempeng resin akrilik. Konsentrasi tertinggi dari kombinasi air rebusan daun sirih dan kayu siwak yang tidak berbeda signifikan dengan kontrol negatif (aquades) adalah 75% dengan lama perendaman terpanjang yaitu 59 hari.

<p>Anemia is still a high prevalence disease in Indonesia, caused by a lack of iron in the body. The components from brown seaweed such as cobalamin (vitamin B12), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), chlorophyll and iron (Fe) can increase red blood cells in the body. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of brown seaweed (<em>Sargassum duplicatum</em>) which can increase hematocrit levels in the blood of white male wistar strain rat (<em>Rattus norvegicus</em>) suffered from anemia in induction NaNO<sub>2</sub>.</p><p>            This research uses an experimental laboratory method with a post test only control group design. The samples were 30 male rats divided into 3 treatment groups, the negative control group (K<sub>0</sub>) without treatment, the positive control (K<sub>1</sub>) be treated anemia given NaNO<sub>2</sub> for 18 days without <em>Sargassum duplicatum </em>extract and treatment group (K<sub>2</sub>) treated with anemia given NaNO<sub>2</sub> for 18 days without <em>Sargassum duplicatum </em>extract at a dose of 2,45gr / kgBB. On the 40<sup>th</sup> day, a blood sample was taken, then measured the hematocrit level.</p><p>            The results showed that the mean number of blood hematocrit levels in K<sub>2</sub> was higher than K<sub>1</sub>, it showed a significant difference descriptively. Based on the Kruskal-Wallis test, a value of 0.260 was obtained that p &gt; 0,05 showed that there were no statistically significant differences between groups of experimental animals.</p><p>            From the results of this research, the conclusion is the administration of brown seaweed extract (<em>Sargassum duplicatum</em>) descriptively increased, but not statistically significant.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Keywords :</strong> Anemia, hematocrit, <em>Sargassum duplicatum</em>, NaNO<sub>2</sub></p>

Sidaguri leaves (Sida rhombifolia L.) Have been shown to contain flavonoid compounds, where they are efficacious as hyperuricemia. This study aims to determine effectiveness ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves as antihyperuricemia in white rats. The study was conducted using the method of potassium oxanate induction and measured using glucometers. 15 animals were divided into 5 groups, namely negative control, positive control, group I combination of ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves 50 mg / kg body weight, group II ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves 100 mg / kg body weight, group III ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves 200 mg / kg body weight for 5 hours. Examination of antihyperuricemia effects is done by comparing the uric acid levels value of the rats before and after treatment. The results of this study indicate that the three dose ethanol extract of sidaguri leaves provide an antihyperuricemia effect and based on one-way Anova, Tuckey and LSD data analysis, shows that the dose of 50 mg / kg body weight is effective as antihyperuricemia and does not have a significant difference (p> 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the dose is the most effective in decreases uric acid levels in white rats, which is a dose of 200 mg / kg body weight because it mostly decreased uric acid levels.

Pendahuluan: Basis gigi tiruan nilon termoplastik merupakan alternatif pengganti basis gigi tiruan resin akrilik. Pembersihan gigi tiruan diperlukan untuk menjaga basis gigi tiruan agar tetap bersih dari kontaminasi mikroorganisme. Daun seledri merupakan bahan alam yang memiliki kandungan flavonoid, saponin, tanin, dan minyak atsiri yang sudah terbukti bersifat antijamur. Penelitian sebelumnya hanya melihat zona hambat saja. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis efektivitas perasan daun seledri sebagai pembersih gigi tiruan terhadap pertumbuhan Candida albicans pada basis gigi tiruan nilon termoplastik. Metode: Eksperimental laboratoris dengan rancangan penelitian post-test only control group design. Sampel nilon termoplastik berbentuk cakram dengan diameter 10 mm dan tebal 2 mm  sebanyak 25 dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok. Sampel dikontaminasi dengan C. albicans setelah direndam dalam kontrol negatif (akuades) selama 6 jam, kontrol positif (tablet effervescent) selama 15 menit, dan perasan daun seledri konsentrasi 25, 50, dan 100% selama 6 jam. Sampel selanjutnya diletakkan dalam media sabouraud dextrose broth (SDB). Pengujian efektivitas perasan daun seledri dilakukan dengan menentukan nilai absorbansi kekeruhan media SDB menggunakan spektrofotometer. Data dianalisis menggunakan one-way ANOVA dan Least Significant Difference (LSD). Hasil: Nilai konsentrasi C. albicans pada kelompok kontrol negatif mendapatkan hasil 0,380 x 108 CFU/mL, kontrol positif mendapatkan hasil 0,310 x 108 CFU/mL, perasan daun seledri konsentrasi 25% mendapatkan hasil 0,243 x 108 CFU/mL, konsentrasi 50% mendapatkan hasil 0,160 x 108 CFU/mL, dan konsentrasi 100% mendapatkan hasil 0,236 x 108 CFU/mL. Simpulan: Perasan daun seledri efektif sebagai pembersih gigi tiruan untuk menghambat  pertumbuhan C. albicans, dengan konsentrasi yang efektif sebesar 50%.Kata kunci: Nilon termoplastik, perasan daun seledri, Candida albicans. ABSTRACTIntroduction: Thermoplastic nylon denture base is an alternative to the acrylic resin denture base. Denture cleaning is needed to keep the denture base clean from contamination by microorganisms. Celery leaves are natural ingredients that contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and essential oils that have been proven to have antifungal properties. Previous research only observed the inhibitory zone. This research was aimed to analyse the effectiveness of celery leaf juice as a denture cleaner against the growth of Candida albicans on thermoplastic nylon denture base. Methods: Experimental laboratory with a post-test only control group design was conducted towards 25 disc-shaped thermoplastic nylon samples with a diameter of 10 mm and a thickness of 2 mm, and divided into five groups. Samples were contaminated with C. albicans after immersion in the negative control (aquadest) for 6 hours, positive control (effervescent tablets) for 15 minutes, and celery leaf juice with the concentrations of 25, 50, and 100% for 6 hours. The sample was then placed in the Sabouraud-dextrose broth (SDB) medium. The effectiveness of celery leaf juice was tested by determining the absorbance value of SDB media turbidity using a spectrophotometer. Data were analysed using one-way ANOVA and Least Significant Difference (LSD). Results: The concentration value of C. albicans in the negative control group was 0.380 x 108 CFU / mL, the positive control was 0.310 x 108 CFU / mL, the juice of celery leaves with the concentration of 25% was 0.243 x 108 CFU / mL, the concentration of 50% was 0.160 x 108 CFU / mL, and the concentration of 100% was 0.236 x 108 CFU / mL. Conclusion: Celery leaf juice is effective as a denture cleaner to inhibit the growth of C. albicans, with an effective concentration of 50%.Keywords: Thermoplastic nylon, celery leaf juice, Candida albicans.
