In the paper, we study sensitivity analysis in set-valued optimization, a research direction has been attracting much attention of many mathematicians in the world recently. The main derivative used in the paper is higher-order variational set (introduced by Khanh and Tuan in 2008) which is considered as a generalization of the contingent derivative (known as the first and the most popular derivative in set-valued optimization). Firstly, we establish relationships between higher-order variational sets of a given set-valued map and those of its profile (extended by a ordering cone). Then, we give results on higher-order variational set of the Benson proper perturbation map for a kind of set-valued optimization problem, the perturbation map is defined in the objective space. Finally, we apply the obtained results to sensitivity analysis for optimal-value map of a parametrized constrained set-valued optimization problem whose the objective map and constrained maps depends on some parameter. More precisely, some results on sensitivity analysis for parametrized constrained set-valued optimization problem are obtained. The content of the paper gives us more applications of higher-order variational set in set-valued optimization.

The analysis of the concept, properties and features of heterogeneous redundancy in modern complex ergatic systems, including those included in the situation centers (SC). On the basis of the qualimetric paradigm, the generalized analytical model of quality and optimization of quality by private, group, summary and aggregated quality indicators is justified. Practical ways of realization of the model and methods of optimization of the objects which are a part of SC and them as a whole at the expense of reduction of structural, functional and other types of redundancy under the obligatory condition of non-reduction of the required value of quality are given. On the example of the generalized sampling theorem when choosing the optimal value of the sampling frequency of the real bandpass signal, the criticality and significant influence on the redundancy of data in their further processing in the SC is shown.

According to a fairly widespread assumption, there is some definite collection of completely factual or fundamental propositions upon which all truths supervene and which are unaffected by vagueness. This assumption manifests itself in formal models of vagueness as well—for example, the supervaluationist who represents propositions as sets of world-precisification pairs may divide logical space into propositions that only depend on the world-coordinate. This chapter argues that this assumption leads to paradoxes of higher-order vagueness, and, ultimately, should be rejected in favour of a weaker notion of fundamentality or factuality. It suggests an alternative picture in which there is vagueness ‘all the way down’: logical-space can be divided into basic propositions that settle all precise matters, but it is vague where those divisions lie.

In the past few years, many studies have proved the efficiency of Simple Adaptive Control (SAC) in mitigating earthquakes’ damages to building structures. Nevertheless, the weighting matrices of this controller should be selected after a large number of sensitivity analyses. This step is time-consuming and it will not necessarily yield a controller with optimum performance. In the current study, an innovative method is introduced to tuning the SAC’s weighting matrices, which dispenses with excessive sensitivity analysis. In this regard, we try to define an optimization problem using intelligent evolutionary algorithm and utilized control indices in an objective function. The efficiency of the introduced method is investigated in 6-story building structure equipped with magnetorheological dampers under different seismic actions with and without uncertainty in the model of the proposed structure. The results indicate that the controller designed by the introduced method has a desirable performance under different conditions of uncertainty in the model. Furthermore, it improves the seismic performance of structure as compared to controllers designed through sensitivity analysis.

Efficient and reliable sensitivity analyses are critical for topology optimization, especially for multibody dynamics systems, because of the large number of design variables and the complexities and expense in solving the state equations. This research addresses a general and efficient sensitivity analysis method for topology optimization with design objectives associated with time dependent dynamics responses of multibody dynamics systems that include nonlinear geometric effects associated with large translational and rotational motions. An iterative sensitivity analysis relation is proposed, based on typical finite difference methods for the differential algebraic equations (DAEs). These iterative equations can be simplified for specific cases to obtain more efficient sensitivity analysis methods. Since finite difference methods are general and widely used, the iterative sensitivity analysis is also applicable to various numerical solution approaches. The proposed sensitivity analysis method is demonstrated using a truss structure topology optimization problem with consideration of the dynamic response including large translational and rotational motions. The topology optimization problem of the general truss structure is formulated using the SIMP (Simply Isotropic Material with Penalization) assumption for the design variables associated with each truss member. It is shown that the proposed iterative steps sensitivity analysis method is both reliable and efficient.

This paper uses Singapore as a case study to illustrate how staffing policies and practices affect the quality of the workforce which ultimately influence performance at employee and organization level. It reveals that Singapore public service has been able to put in place most of the ‘critical factors’ for an effective staffing system management. The presence of those critical factors have played an important role in making Singapore to be one of the most effective public services in the world. Finally, it forwards theoretical and practical implications of the study and future research direction.

Infants show impressive sensitivity to others’ emotions from early on, attending to and discriminating different facial emotions, using emotions to decide what to approach or avoid, and recognizing that certain objects and events are likely to produce certain emotional responses. But do infants and toddlers also recognize more abstract features of emotions—features that are not tied to any one emotion in particular? Here we examined the development of the higher order expectation that emotions are more or less mutually exclusive, asking whether young children recognize that people generally do not express two conflicting emotions towards a single stimulus. We first asked whether 26-month old toddlers can use an agent’s incongruent versus congruent emotional responses (“Yay! Yuck!” versus “Yay! Wow!”) to reason about how many objects were hidden in a box. We found that toddlers inferred that incongruent emotions signaled the presence of two numerically distinct objects (Experiment 1). This inference relied on the incongruent emotions being produced by a single agent; when two different agents gave two incongruent emotional responses, toddlers did not assume that two objects must be present (Experiment 2). Finally, we examined the developmental trajectory of this ability. We found that younger, 20-month olds failed to use incongruent emotions to individuate objects (Experiment 3), although they readily used incongruent novel labels to do so (Experiment 4). Our results suggest that by 2-years of age, children use higher order knowledge of emotions to make inferences about the world around them, and that this ability undergoes early development.

Using an excerpt from Stanisław Lem’s Solaris, this article explores the idea that, in a literary text, a fictional world and the world of physical reality may interact to form such a reality that can paradoxically turn out to be more real than what we believe to be the actual reality. It is also shown that the fictional world realized in a literary text may bring the reader to certain conclusions about the world in which he or she lives. Thus, even if literature is in­capable of affecting reality, it can change the way the latter is perceived. A fictional world is not just a reality — it is a reality of a higher order.

<p>This is a short article, focusing on promoting more study on SEIR modeling by leveraging rich data and machine learning. We believe that this is extremely critical as many regions at the country or state/provincial levels have been struggling with their public health intervention policies on fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Some recent published papers on mitigation measures show promising SEIR modeling results, which could shred the light for other policymakers at different community levels. We present our perspective on this research direction. Hopefully, we can stimulate more studies and help the world win this “war” against the invisible enemy “coronavirus” sooner rather than later. </p>

Research background: The disease, which broke out in December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan and caused a pandemic around the world, has a constant impact on the economies of the countries even after almost two years. The issue of the effect of COVID-19 on the global economy and overall earnings management persists. Due to the topicality of the problem, we focused on the impacts and measures affecting the company’s operation. Purpose of the article: The purpose of this research article is to summarize current information on coronavirus and its effects almost two years after the outbreak. Additionally, outline three different scenarios that could occur. We also took into consideration scientific sources that deal with the shock of COVID-19. In addition, we summarize the opinions of scientific authors. Methods: Within the methodology, we used mainly the analysis and obtaining an objective picture of the current situation in the world. Following the outbreak of the pandemic, there have been significant inconstancies in GDP. Subsequently, we focus on the development of individual selected macro indicators that best describe the global economy. Findings & Value added: Finally, we offer three scenarios that outline three different situations that may occur, which we worked on based on a scenario analysis based on a modification of the sensitivity analysis, to specify future development scenarios based on macroeconomic indicators.
