At Dalat nuclear research reactor, the gamma - gamma coincidence method is eficiently used in data nuclear research direction. By this method, some laboratories in the world test neutron activation analysis of geological, biological and environmental samples. In this paper, we present the determination of the selenium content in biological sample by gamma – gamma coincidence method. The results showed that the compton scattering was suppressed. The ratio of peak counts/back was improved up to 64.2 times. The detection limit for selenium in biological sample was enhanced to 8.9 times to compare to the method one detector system.

The decommissioning of a 300 kW Argonaut type universities research reactor and associated facilities has been completed at the Scottish Universities Research and Reactor Centre. The strategy adopted for the demolition of the reactor and its ancillary plant and buildings is discussed. One of the principal areas of the work was the effort expended on the determination of the radioisotope abundance of the reactor structure and thereby its impact on the characterization of waste for disposal and the radiation dose budget for personnel. Extensive use was made of remotely operated vehicles to minimize this dose.

The γ-MnO2 nanomaterial has been used to adsorb cobalt in the seawater at Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam. Its concentration is determined by using the neutron activation analysis (NAA) method at the Dalat nuclear research reactor. Factors affecting the uptake of cobalt on the γ-MnO2 material such as the pH, adsorption time, and initial cobalt(II) concentration are investigated. The irradiated experiment data are calculated using the K0-Dalat program. The results obtained show that the trace dissolved cobalt in Phan Thiet seawater is found equal to 0.25 ± 0.04 μg/L (n=5, P=95%) with the adsorption efficiency being higher than 95% (n=4, P=95%).
