In this paper we investigated the effect of Hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA, C6H12N4) concentration on the growth of ZnO nanorods on ITO substrates and the influence of the ZnO seed layer on its orientation growth. ZnO nanorods were synthesized by the two-step method of stable flow electrochemical method of saline solution Zn(NO3)2 at 90oC. As result, the high hexagonal crystalline ZnO nanorods were well oriented according to the (002) lattice network. The change of amperage and electrolysis time have show the effetive control of morphology and size of ZnO nanorods which has been studied by XRD and SEM images

ZnO nanorods (NRs) films, nitrogen-doped (ZnO:N), and ZnO doped with nitrogen and decorated with silver nanostructures (ZnO:N-Ag) NRs films were vertically supported on undoped and N doped ZnO seed layers by a wet chemical method. The obtained films were characterized structurally by X-ray diffraction. Morphological and elemental analysis was performed by scanning electron microscopy, including an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy facility and their optical properties by Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy. Analysis performed in the NRs films showed that the nitrogen content in the seed layer strongly affected their structure and morphology. The mean diameter of ZnO NRs ranged from 70 to 190 nm. As the nitrogen content in the seed layer increased, the mean diameter of ZnO:N NRs increased from 132 to 250 nm and the diameter dispersion decreased. This diameter increase occurs simultaneously with the incorporation of nitrogen into the ZnO crystal lattice and the increase in the volume of the unit cell, calculated using the X-ray diffraction patterns and confirmed by a slight shift in the XRD angle. The diffractograms indicated that the NRs have a hexagonal wurtzite structure, with preferential growth direction along the c axis. The SEM images confirmed the presence of metallic silver in the form of nanoparticles dispersed on the NRs films. Finally, the degradation of methyl orange (MO) in an aqueous solution was studied by UV-vis irradiation of NRs films contained in the bulk of aqueous MO solutions. We found a significant enhancement of the photocatalytic degradation efficiency, with ZnO:N-Ag NRs film being more efficient than ZnO:N NRs film, and the latter better than the ZnO NRs film.

Ferroelectric multilayer films attract great attention for a wide variation of applications. The synergistic effect by combining different functional layers induces distinctive electrical properties. In this study, ferroelectric BaZr0.2Ti0.8O3/PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3/BaZr0.2Ti0.8O3 (BZT/PZT/BZT) multilayer thin films are designed and fabricated by using the magnetron sputtering method, and a LaNiO3 (LNO) seed layer is introduced. The microstructures and electrical properties of the BZT/PZT/BZT films with and without the LNO seed layer are systematically studied. The results show that the BZT/PZT/BZT/LNO thin film exhibits much lower surface roughness and a preferred (100)-orientation growth, with the growth template and tensile stress provided by the LNO layer. Moreover, an enhanced dielectric constant, decreased dielectric loss, and improved ferroelectric properties are achieved in BZT/PZT/BZT/LNO thin films. This work reveals that the seed layer can play an important role in improving the microstructure and properties of ferroelectric multilayer films.

Thermoplastic polyimide (TPI) was synthesized via a traditional one-step method using 2,3,3′,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (3,4′-BPDA), 4,4′-oxydianiline (4,4′-ODA), and 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine (TFMB) as the monomers. A series of semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (semi-IPNs) were produced by dissolving TPI in bisphenol A dicyanate (BADCy), followed by curing at elevated temperatures. The curing reactions of BADCy were accelerated by TPI in the blends, reflected by lower curing temperatures and shorter gelation time determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and rheological measurements. As evidenced by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, phase separation occurred and continuous TPI phases were formed in semi-IPNs with a TPI content of 15% and 20%. The properties of semi-IPNs were systematically investigated according to their glass transition temperatures (Tg), thermo-oxidative stability, and dielectric and mechanical properties. The results revealed that these semi-IPNs possessed improved mechanical and dielectric properties compared with pure polycyanurate. Notably, the impact strength of semi-IPNs was 47%–320% greater than that of polycyanurate. Meanwhile, semi-IPNs maintained comparable or even slightly higher thermal resistance in comparison with polycyanurate. The favorable processability and material properties make TPI/BADCy blends promising matrix resins for high-performance composites and adhesives.

In this work, ZnO nanorods (ZnO NRs) were successfully synthesized on FTO-glass via hydrothermal technique. Two steps were followed to grow ZnO NRs. In the first step, the seed layer of ZnO nanocrystals was deposited by using a drop cast method. The second step was represented by the hydrothermal growth of ZnO NRs on a pre-coated FTO- glass with the seed layer. The hydrothermal growth was conducted at 90∘C for 2[Formula: see text]h. The resulted structure, morphology and optical properties of the produced layers were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and UV-visible spectrophotometer, respectively. The analysis confirmed that the ZnO NRs grown by the hydrothermal method have a hexagonal crystal structure which was grown randomly on the FTO surface. The crystallite size was recorded 50[Formula: see text]nm and a slight microstrain (0.142%) was calculated. The bandgap was found to be in the range of 3.14–3.17[Formula: see text]eV. The ZnO NRs have a high density and large aspect ratio. A pH sensor with high sensitivity was fabricated using a two-electrode cell configuration. The ZnO NRs sensor showed the sensitivity of [Formula: see text]59.03[Formula: see text]mV/pH, which is quite promising and close to the theoretical value ([Formula: see text]59.12[Formula: see text]mV/pH).

A simple two-step method of growing ZnO nanorod arrays on the surface of BiOI nanosheets was developed under mild environment. The hierarchical structure of ZnO arrays@BiOI nanosheets was characterized by various measurements like X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray detector. The optical absorption of the ZnO arrays@BiOI nanosheets composite was investigated by UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra. The photocatalytic degradation of methanol orange under visible light shows that the obtained ZnO arrays@BiOI nanosheets heterostructures exhibit enhanced photocatalytic activity, contrasting to the sum of BiOI nanosheets and ZnO nanorods. The mechanism of the photocatalytic process was discussed. This method of growing ZnO nanorod arrays on other nanosheets also provides a potential method to fabricating other complex structures.
