Objective: The aim of this study is to observe the effect of Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) on patients with advanced stage of prostate cancer on the lipid profile and blood glucose level. Material & Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study and include the prostate cancer patients which were admitted to Urology Policlinic in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan from June 2014 – June 2015 and also received ADT. Results: From June 2014 – June 2015, a total of 25 prostate cancer patients receiving ADT was included in this study with an average age of 67.08 ± 7.48 years old. The median prostate specific antigen (PSA) level of this group of patients is 19.6 ng/mL and the lowest and highest value of 3.4 and 278 ng/mL respectively. ADT administration is found to cause a significant elevation of 2-hour postprandial blood glucose (121.12 ± 21 mg/mL vs 134.64 ± 33.35 mg/mL, p-value=0.011) and Glycosylated hemoglobin (5 ± 0.5% vs 5.5 ± 0.79%, p-value=0.000) (HbA1c) after 6 months of therapy. Additionally, ADT administration within 3 and 6 months of duration had also significantly increased triglyceride (TG) level when compared to before treatment (104.4 ± 38.67 vs 131.2 ± 32.27 vs 127 ± 33.43 respectively, p-value=0.005). Conclusion: ADT treatment in prostate cancer patients increase triglyceride levels after 3 and 6 months of treatment followed by 2-hour postprandial blood glucose and HbA1C levels after 6 months of the treatment.

Cognition function specifically about thinking concentration has not much yet been studied. Society view shown that glucose has role thinking quality. Few studies shown that glucose has role in specific memory quality but not in complex thinking. This study purpose to see correlation between blood glucose level with thinking concentration before eating (preprandial), after eating (postprandial), and the effect of blood glucose rise on thinking concentration. Subjects that accomplished study’s requirement were recruited until forty six people and were followed within thirty minutes. Blood Glucose level was measured by glucose meter at initial admission, thinking concentration were measured with trail making test at initial admission, and compared after eating on the thirtieth minute. Descriptive analytic shown that preprandial blood glucose level in all subject is 55-119 mg/dl with 98.2 mg/dl mean. Postprandial blood glucose level in all subject is 103-171 mg/dl with 134.5 mg/dl mean. Preprandial thinking concentration in all subject is 28-93 seconds with 56.42 seconds mean. Postprandial thinking concentration in all subject is 24-73 seconds with 47.5 seconds mean. Correlation analysis showed that no significance between preprandial blood glucose level and thinking concentration (p = 0.556), postprandial blood glucose level and thinking concentration (p = 0.533), and increase in blood glucose and thinking concentration (p= 0.928). In conclusion there is no significant correlation between blood glucose level and thinking concentration.

Aims: To investigate the effect of food blends (plantain, soybean and ginger) on the blood glucose, lipid profile and haematological indices on streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Methodology: A total of 35 rats of mean body weight 219.07 g separated into7 groups (5 per group) where induced by a single intraperitoneal (I.P) injection of streptozotocin (0.1 g dissolved in 5 ml of freshly prepared sodium citrate buffer 0.1 M, pH 4.5) at a dose of 40 mg/kg body weight after fasting for 12 hours and fed with flours/blends. The flours were produced from plant materials for different treatments/blends (blend A=100% unripe plantain, B=80% unripe plantain, 14% soybean, 6% ginger, C=70% unripe plantain, 26% soybean, 4% ginger, D= 60% unripe plantain, 38% soybean, 2% ginger, E= 50% unripe plantain, 50% soybean) and the phytochemicals and minerals content were determined. Blood glucose was determined at 5 days interval for 25 days. Diabetes was confirmed in rats with blood glucose concentrations >200 mg/dl. After 25 days rats were anaesthetized with chloroform vapour and blood samples collected by cardiac puncture for haematology and lipid profile determination. Results: The results showed that unripe plantain, soya beans and ginger in adequate proportion(C=70% unripe plantain, 26% soybean, 4% ginger or D= 60% unripe plantain, 38% soybean, 2% ginger) could help to reduce blood glucose, improve haematological parameters and lipid profile. Significant reduction was observed in the blood glucose level of rats fed blends C and D from 286 to 85 mg/dl and 307 to 90 mg/dl respectively at the end of experiment. These results also demonstrated that the inclusion of ginger at 6% causes rise in blood glucose level. Total cholesterol (TC) increased in all the blends. However, the lowest concentration of TC was observed in blends C and D. The highest packed cell volume (60%) and Haemoglobin (20 g/dl) level observed in rats fed blend C was significantly higher than the normal control fed conventional feeds. The increase in packed cell volume (PCV) (50%) and Hb (17 g/dl) in diabetic rats demonstrated that the formulated blend C was able to raise PCV and Hb above 50% and 17 g/dl (Normal control NC) respectively. Significant increase (P<0.05) in low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc) was also observed in all the blends with blend C having the least (4.0 mg/dl) close to NC (2.0 mg/dl). Conclusion: From the results it is evident that blend C will manage and improve the health status of diabetic patients.

Diabetes Type 2 can cause oxidative stress leading to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species. Soyferment-Tempeh, a fermented soybean product with aerobic and anaerobic R. oligosporus incubation has a high antioxidant content of isoflavones that can regulate oxidative stress in diabetes. In this study, we evaluate the effects of Soyferment-Tempeh on lipid profile, Retinol-Binding Protein 4 (RBP4), and Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase (PEPCK) gene expression in type 2 diabetic mice. A total of 30 mice with the age of eight weeks were divided into six groups as follows: A) nondiabetic, B) diabetic mice, C) diabetic mice with metformin, D), E), and F) diabetic mice with Soyferment-Tempeh doses of 10, 20, or 40mg/100g body weight (BW), respectively, were administered treatments orally by gavages. Blood was collected for assessment of blood glucose level, and lipid profile before and after 3 weeks of the administration. After sacrificing the mice, livers were used for RBP4 and PEPCK gene expression assessment. Supplementation with three different doses of Soyferment-Tempeh in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice for 21 days significantly (p<0.001) reduced blood glucose level, total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein level, atherogenic index, and increased high-density lipoprotein level. There was a significant decrease in RBP4 gene expression in the Soyferment-Tempeh of dose 10mg/100g BW treatment groups (p<0.05), while the PEPCK gene expression did not significantly differ (p>0.05). These results demonstrate that supplementation with Soyferment-Tempeh decreases blood glucose level, atherogenic index, improves lipid profile, and decreases RBP4.

This study aims to investigate the influence of patient characteristics on the choice of insulin therapy in type 2 diabetes mellitus outpatients in Denpasar municipality. This is a descriptive analysis study using the patient's medical records as research material. Patients who meet inclusion and exclusion criteria are being recorded based on their medical records. Characteristics that are taken are age, gender, fasting blood glucose level (FBG), 2-hour postprandial blood glucose level (2-hours PPG) and HbA1c values of patients. Types of insulin therapy gained from patient medical records and drug use report in pharmacy. Characteristics data and type of insulin analyzed using correlation test to determine the effect of the patient characteristics on the selection of insulin therapy. 43 patients became the research subject. Males gendered patients (72.09%) and the patients aged less than 65 years (90.70%) are the dominant characteristics of the research subjects. The average value of FBG of patients is 212 mg / dL; 2-hours PPG 280 mg / dL and HbA1c 10.1%. There is a correlation between sex, age, HbA1c value and FBG with the type of insulin obtained by patients (p <0.05). Based on the results of statistical tests, age and gender have a strong correlation on insulin choice, HbA1c and FBG level has a moderate influence and 2-hours PPG have a weak correlation. Patient characteristics had an influence on the type of insulin choice for diabetes mellitus type 2 outpatient in the Denpasar municipality.

Objective: Diabetes mellitus is a leading cause of death and disability in the world and its prevalence is predicted to rise to 10% by 2030. Hence, this study is conducted with objectives to find out the effect of aerobic exercises and resisted exercises on blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) subjects and to compare the effect of both exercises on blood glucose level.Method: The comparative study was conducted at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Deemed University, Physiotherapy department, Karad. 30 participants with age group between 30 and 65 years were taken. Subjects were selected as per inclusion and exclusion criteria. Group A (15) participants were given aerobic exercise on static bicycle, and Group B (15) participants were given resistance training using dumbbells and weight cuffs for 5 days/week for 4 weeks. Diet recommendations were given to every participant.Results: Statistical analysis was performed using paired and unpaired t-test. Analysis showed statistically extremely significant difference in fasting blood glucose level and postprandial blood glucose level in both the groups (p≤0.0001).Conclusion: Thus, this study concludes that both aerobic exercises and resistance training prove to be beneficial in controlling blood glucose levels in T2DM subjects.

Metabolic Syndrome is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and dyslipidemia which can be repaired through synbiotics. This study is to analyzed the effects of banana (Musa balbisiana) flour kefir synbiotic on blood glucose level and lipid profile level of Metabolic Syndrome rats. This is true experimental study with pre-posttest with control goup design of 24 male Sprague Dawley rats which were divided into 4 groups randomly. Negative control goup (K-) given standard food only, positive control group (K +) given standard food with High Fat Fructose Diet (HFFD), intervention group I (PI) and intervention group II (PII) were given standard food with HFFD and banana (Musa balbisiana) flour kefir synbiotic 1,8 ml/200 g weight/day (PI) and 3,6 ml/200 g weight/day (PII) for three weeks. Blood glucose level was analyzed using glucose oxidase-peroxidase amino antipyrine method, cholesterol level was analyzed using cholesterol oxidase-peroxidase amino antipyrine, and triglyceride level was analyze using glycerol 3 phosphate oxidase phenol amino phenazone method. Result of Analysis of Varian test shows significant differences in mean between group (p=0,000) followed by PostHoc Bonferroni test or Post Hoc Games-Howel test which showed a mean difference in the PI and PII groups. Banana (Musa balbisiana) flour kefir synbiotic can reduce blood glucose level and improve lipid profile level.
