In Ukrainian church life, the influence of the Byzantine Empire, which has existed for over eleven centuries, holds a special place. This unique Greek superpower became the first independent state where faith in Jesus Christ became part of the entire state complex. It was this faith that united Byzantium with the Ecumenical Church, whose center of history was rooted in Rome.

Introduction. Matarcha was the cathedral city of the Diocese of Zichia of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. It was a major religious and missionary center in the Northwestern Pre-Caucasus. The priests of this autocephalous archdiocese took an active part in the church life of the Byzantine Empire. In this context, among the most important sources on the history of the Byzantine Matarcha, a special place is occupied by the monuments of Byzantine sphragistics. Methods. The paper examines three Byzantine church seals of the 11th–12th centuries, discovered during the research of the Taman settlement (medieval Matarcha was the center of the diocese of Zichia of the Patriarchate of Constantinople). The owners of the seals were: deacon Michael, monk Ignatius and nun Euphemia. Analysis. The article provides information about the previously known 19 seals belonging to the church hierarchs of Zichia and other representatives of the clergy. Similar finds of seals in the Crimean urban centers (Cherson and Sughdea) are indicated. Results. The few details that relate to the ecclesiastical history of the diocese of Zichia emphasize the exceptional value of each new find of seals, and the evidence of direct contacts and established correspondence between the Orthodox clergy once again shows that, in addition to the cleric – deacon, the monastic brotherhood also played a significant role in the development of relations between the church and society. To a certain extent, this could also be facilitated by the trips of the city’s residents to pilgrimage sites, as evidenced by the brought relics, the finds of which are known.

Ruwatan is a form of ceremony in Javanese society that aims to free man from bad luck or the calamity that would befall him. The term "ruwatan" also appears in the discourse of church life amid the Javanese Christian Church (GKJ) as it is written in the Javanese Bible, the Christian Song of Song (the official book song of worship) and the liturgy. This article aimed to find the understanding of the citizens of the Javanese church about ruwatan and develop it in the concept of thinking and devoting of the people church about Jesus Christ is the Man of Ruwat. The method used is a descriptive sociology of religion and culture. In conclusion, the church is expected to acknowledge, accept and respect the existence of Javanese ruwatan, to keep the existence of ruwatan as part and identity of Javanese society activity including church service.AbstrakRuwatan merupakan suatu bentuk upacara di masyarakat Jawa yang bertujuan untuk membebaskan manusia dari nasib buruk maupun malapetaka yang akan menimpa dirinya. Istilah ”ruwatan” juga muncul dalam wacana kehidupan bergereja di kalangan Gereja Kristen Jawa (GKJ) sebagaimana tersurat pada Alkitab berbahasa Jawa, Kidung Pasamuwan Kristen (buku nyanyian resmi ibadah) dan liturgi. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pemahaman warga gereja tentang ruwatan serta mengembangkannya dalam konsep berpikir dan beriman warga gereja tentang Yesus Kristus adalah Juru Ruwat manusia. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif sosiologi religi dan budaya. Kesimpulannya, gereja bersikap mau mengakui, menerima dan menghormati keberadaan ruwatan Jawa, ikut menjaga keberadaan ruwatan sebagai bagian dari aktivitas dan identitas masyarakat Jawa termasuk dalam pelayanan gereja.

A key word that is very important and often used in the sphere of Church life is the word 'ministry'. This word has a very deep meaning, not only because the word 'ministry' has its roots in and is rooted in Jesus Christ, whose whole life fully qualifies the meaning of service. But also by realizing that by and through the word 'ministry', the Church has emerged as a unique, unique and specific institution, which cannot be found in common with any other institution that has come together in the middle of history. In other words, the terminology of ministry has a close affinity for the church, although in recent developments the term ministry itself has been widely used in the life of non-ecclesiastical institutions. The presence of the churches in Indonesia is not a passive and meaningless presence. The presence of the church in Indonesia is a dynamic, active presence that moves, a presence that is directed to others, a presence that serves. The church will lose its meaning if its presence in the world becomes a passive, static, non-serving presence. Abstrak Indonesia Sebuah kata kunci yang sangat penting dan acapkali dipergunakan dalam ruang lingkup kehidupan Gereja adalah kata ‘pelayanan’. Kata ini mengandung makna yang sangat dalam, bukan saja oleh karena kata ‘pelayanan’ bersumber serta berakar pada Yesus Kristus, yang keseluruhan hidup-Nya mengkualisasikan secara prima arti pelayanan. Tetapi juga dengan menyadari bahwa oleh dan melalui kata ‘pelayanan’ itu, Gereja telah tampil sebagai sebuah intitusi yang khas, unik dan spesifik, yang tak bisa dicari kesamaannya dengan intitusi lain yang bersama-sama hadir di tengah-tengah sejarah. Dengan kata lain, terminologi pelayanan memiliki ketertarikan erat dengan gereja,walaupun dalam perkembangan terakhir istilah pelayanan itu sendiri, telah banyak dipergunakan dalam kehidupan lembaga-lembaga non gerejawi. Kehadiran gereja-gereja di Indonesisa bukanlah kehadiran yang pasif  dan tanpa makna. Kehadiran gereja di bumi Indonesia justru merupakan sebuah kehadiran yang aktif dinamik, yang bergerak, kehadiran yang terarah bagi orang lain, kehadiran yang melayani. Gereja akan kehilangan maknanya jika kehadiraanya di tengah dunia menjadi kehadiran pasif, yang statis, yang tidak melayani.

With reference to Yu. F. Samarin’s thesis on “Formalism” of the Church Life in the Pre-Petrine Period, the article examines the issue of the role of fasts, eating patterns and daily routine in general among most radical groups of Old Believers. The author of the article draws the conclusion that such conceptions were rooted in the Pre-Nikon Russian religious (monkish) traditions. The author pays special attention to the social and political aspect of the connection between food and payer for the Tsar in the context of the “spiritual Antichrist” teaching.

The article examines the contribution of the representatives of the Samarin family to the development of the Parish issue in the Russian Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The issue of expanding the rights of the laity in the sphere of parish self-government was one of the most debated problems of Church life in that period. The public discussion was initiated by D.F. Samarin (1827-1901). He formulated the “social concept” of the parish and parish reform, based on Slavophile views on society and the Church. In the beginning of the twentieth century his eldest son F.D. Samarin who was a member of the Special Council on the development the Orthodox parish project in 1907, and as such developed the Slavophile concept of the parish. In 1915, A.D. Samarin, who took up the position of the Chief Procurator of the Most Holy Synod, tried to make his contribution to the cause of the parish reforms, but he failed to do so due to his resignation.

Big activity passed Popes, with the least Francis Bergoglio, is a question about receptiontheir lives and action, especially in times of modern medium broadcasting. Sometimes presentedcontent could be treated as sensation, and their receptiveness deprived of profound historical andtheological meaning. This article depends of beginnings of the Church, when it started to organizeitself, with well known historically-theological arguments. Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ andgot special place among Apostles. His role matures in young Church community, which is escapingfrom Jewish religion.Peter tramps the way from Jerusalem thru Antioch to Rome, confirming his appointing to thefirst among Apostles and to being Rock in the Church. Nascent Rome Church keeps this specialPeter’s succession. Clement, bishop of Rome, shows his prerogatives as a successor of Peter. Later,bishop of Cartagena, Cyprian, confirms special role both Peter and each bishop of Rome amongother bishops. He also was finding appropriate role for each of them. Church institution, basedon Peter and Apostles persists and shows truth of the beginnings and faithfulness to them innowadays papacy.Methodological elements Presented in the introduction let for the lecture of Gospel and patristictexts without positivistic prejudices presented in old literature of the subject.

The increase in migration at the international level also increases the number of religiouslymixed marriages. The Catholic Church advises against entering into such marriages because thisissue refers to the laws of God and the question of preserving faith.  In recent years social work has increasingly focused on spirituality and religion as key elements of cultural competency.  The Joint Commission—the nation's largest health care accrediting organization—as well as many other accrediting bodies require spiritual assessments in hospitals and many other mental health settings. Consequently, specific intervention strategies have been fostered in order to provide the most appropriate interventions for religious clients. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the fourth largest and one of the faster growing churches in the United States.  In an effort to facilitate cultural competence with clients who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ, a brief spiritual assessment instrument was developed.  This mixed-method study asked experts in Church culture (N = 100) to identify the degree of cultural consistency, strengths, and limitations of the brief spiritual assessment instrument. Results indicate that the framework is consistent with Church culture and a number of practice-oriented implications are offered.
