In this paper, we describe the development of a personalised multimedia/hypermedia learning environment that utilises multimedia presentation techniques in its interface while still providing Internet connectivity for management and delivery purposes. The structure of the domain is based on concepts that can be presented in a variety of ways; multimedia players display the content on the client computer. Tools are provided in the interface to allow students to search for concepts and create personalised views of the materials. Link annotations driven by an overlay student model are supported in all components of the system. The system supports the WWW as its addressing space but uses the local client areas to store media items expensive in terms of delivery time. Learning objects that provide frameworks for tasks and other summative assessment activities are stored on a server and delivered when required.

AbstractWe are now developing an innovative SETI project, tentatively named seti@home, involving massively parallel computation on desktop computers scattered around the world. The public will be uniquely involved in a real scientific project. Individuals will download a Screensaver program that will not only provide the usual attractive graphics when their computer is idle, but will also perform sophisticated analysis of SETI data using the host computer. The data are tapped off Project Serendip IV’s receiver and SETI survey operating on the 305-meter diameter Arecibo radio telescope. We make a continuous tape-recording of a 2 MHz bandwidth signal centered on the 21 cm H I line. The data on these tapes are then preliminarily screened and parceled out by a server that supplies small chunks of data (50 sec of 20 kHz bandwidth, a total of 0.25 MB) over the Internet to clients possessing the screen-saver software. After the client computer has automatically analyzed a complete chunk of data (in a much more detailed manner than Serendip normally does) a report on the best candidate signals is sent back to the server, whereupon a new chunk of data is sent out. If 50,000-100,000 customers can be achieved, the computing power will be equivalent to a substantial fraction of a typical supercomputer, and seti@home will cover a comparable volume of parameter space to that of Serendip IV.

College English teaching is in urgent need of a platform which may improve stu-dents' initiative in English learning, raise learning interest and enhance English teaching management, in order to improve students' English level and facilitate the teacher's English teaching management. The popularity of campus network facili-ties in various universities provides hardware support for the establishment of a personalized English teaching platform based on campus network. The study is aimed at designing a personalized English teaching platform based on campus network, which takes VBSCRIPT as programming language and SQL Server as database software of the platform, completing the interactive processing of the da-ta based on the data structure of client computer/server (B/S). First, the paper in-troduces the relevant teaching and education theories, laying theoretical and tech-nical basis for the design of personalized English teaching platform in combina-tion with the computer technology used in the design of the platform. The combi-nation of questionnaire and analytic study is used in the design of the system from various aspects, and makes the design of the platform come true. At last, the testing of the system verifies that the system meets the relevant functional re-quirement. The platform would provide an open environment for English learning and stimulating the guidance of teachers and is of great significance to improve the level of college English teaching.

Every year, the availability of public IPv4 addresses is running low. However, the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) has set a new addressing standard called IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6). IPv6 implementations can not be immediately performed on all end-to-end lines, a transition phase is required, one of which is the GRE tunneling method. IPv6 has some differences with IPv4, then in line with the presence of IPv6 will required the protocol that compatible with IPv6, among which is the routing protocol. Some dynamic routing protocols are created to support and can run on IPv6 such as RIPng and OSPFv3. Aim of this study is examines OSPFv3 routing protocols and RIPng routing protocols in terms of Quality of Service (QoS). The test is done by using seven routers with three scenarios in each routing protocol, ie scenario with best path active condition, when the network changes in other words best path down, and the scenario with best path condition has changed and the network has returned to normal. Testing is done by testing QoS parameters (delay, packet loss, and throughput) when the client computer downloads files with the .iso extension from the server. Downloaded files have different sizes, from 100 Mega Byte to 1 Giga Byte. From the results obtained that OSPFv3 provides better QoS (delay, packet loss, and throughput) than RIPng on integrated IPv6 network using GRE tunnel and can be a reference when going to transition from IPv4 to IPv6 using GRE Tunnel.
