Dental unit darkening is the cause of aesthetic complaint by the patient, mainly because it is easily noticed by the human eye. Tooth whitening and ceramic veneers allow aesthetic rehabilitation in a pattern of visual equality to the natural dentition, by restoring teeth color and shape symmetry, bringing to the face a harmonious impact that is reflected in the entire set that composes it. By recovering teeth healthy appearance, this association of procedures restores people’s self-confidence. This study reports a clinical case of an esthetic management for darkened tooth 21, describing the sequence of techniques association of dental whitening and ceramic veneer to achieve aesthetics balance, showing the advantages and limitations of these procedures.

Background: The carbamide peroxide is the most commonly active ingredient used for home dental whitening products, its quantification in pharmaceutical products is of extreme importance due to the relation with the products potency and the previously related low carbamide peroxide stability. Once, there is only one official carbamide peroxide determination based on iodometric titration, this method is time-consuming and generates a lot of residues. The aim of this study was to carry out development and validation of a simple and fast ultraviolet spectrophotometer assay to quantify an innovative dental whitening gel. Methods: The proposed method was validated according international conference on harmonization guideline. Procedure is based on the iodide/iodine redox chemistry; iodine released through the action of hydrogen peroxide of carbamide peroxide with ultraviolet detection at 350 nm. Results: The procedure was linear in the concentration range of 1.0-4.0 µg/mL, specific to the excipients, robust for the evaluated parameters (variation of wavelength (± 5 nm); reagent addition (± 10%)), showing the results of RSD 1.88 and 0.39% respectively. Repeatability precision was RSD = 1.42%, with accurate RSD = 2.15% by adding reference solution. The assay used only water as solvent for sample preparation. In comparison to the pharmacopeial method, the latter is more time-consuming, as it generates a lot of residues, and it could not quantify small CP dosages. Conclusion: Thus, the proposed method was proved to be suitable to determine carbamide peroxide during the development and characterization of nanoparticle formulations in the present study.

Gengivectomia. Estética Dentária. Clareamento Dental.   Abstract After the end of orthodontic treatment, patients become more rigorous with their appearance and worry about other aesthetic factors to ensure a harmonious smile. In addition to aligned and harmonious teeth, patients are looking for a whiter smile, becoming more and more rigorous with their appearance, leaving the dentist to meet these needs. Another factor that can impair smile aesthetics is the presence of short teeth, which results in an overexposure of the gum and a smile with a more childlike aspect, and that it is often perceived only at the end of orthodontic treatment. The aim of the present study was to review the aesthetic treatment of the smile after orthodontics, associating periodontal surgery to increase the clinical crown and tooth whitening. Aesthetics is the relationship between several factors. The gummy smile can be corrected by integrating several dental specialties, due to its numerous causes, and surgical, orthodontic or restorative procedures may be indicated. For tooth whitening, one of the techniques most indicated is dental bleaching, which consists of a minimally invasive procedure, indicated in most cases of extrinsic stains. The whitening can be made at home or in office, but in both cases, the dentist needs to master the technique. In this context, it is up to the orthodontist to identify and diagnose these needs of the patient and refer him to other specialists. In conclusion, a good anamnesis, a correct diagnosis and multidisciplinary case planning are essential to achieve the results expected by the patient. Therefore, the interrelationship between specialties is important in order to obtain satisfactory and pleasant results for the patient.   Keywords: Periodontics, Gingivectomy, Esthetics, Smiling. Objective: To evaluate the influence of acid erosion caused by the daily intake of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, associated with immediate dental whitening, on bovine enamel. Materials and Methods: 30 bovine teeth were sectioned to obtain enamel blocks and were distributed into three groups (n = 10): G1- Tooth whitening with 35% hydrogen peroxide; G2- Tooth whitening with 35% hydrogen peroxide + lemon juice and G3 - Tooth whitening with 35% hydrogen peroxide + apple cider vinegar. Treatments were performed for 21 days, the varnish was removed and the analysis of loss of structure and surface roughness were performed by means of non-contact 3D Confocal Chromatic Profilometer. The roughness data obtained were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney non-parametric tests. Results: All groups exhibited greater roughness (Sa) on the side exposed to the treatments (G1 = 3.17b; G2 = 4.17b; G3 = 3.99b) compared to the unexposed side (G1 = 2.55a; G2 = 3.94a; G3 = 2.40a). There was a statistically significant difference among the groups evaluated, being G1 (3.17A) <G3 (3.99C) <G2 (4.17B). Conclusion: 35% hydrogen peroxide has the least erosive potential when compared to its association with vinegar and to lemon juice.

Many people nowadays undergo treatments to improve their aesthetics, often neglecting the general state of health. Aesthetics and appearance have become of prime importance, perhaps correlating with of the advent of social networks and digital photographs. One of the most requested aesthetic treatments for dentists is dental bleaching through the use of whitening gels. Dental bleaching is a treatment which involves an improvement in the chrome of the teeth in a short time, and this treatment appears not invasive for the patients. In-office and at-home bleaching treatments can be found. The purpose of this scientific study is to evaluate all of the advantages and disadvantages of this medical treatment. In this study, were report information and items related to bleaching side effects. Dentists often find themselves in disagreement on this topic. The PICO (Population/Intervention/Comparison/Outcome) question investigated was: Are dental patients who have dental bleaching an increased risk of teeth damage? All of the data in the literature has been collected, and all of the side effects of this treatment were evaluated. 263 studies emerged from initial research; only 14 were screened after screening, as they contained sufficient data to evaluate the side effects of treatment. One certain thing emerged; among the contraindications to the treatment of dental bleaching dentinal hypersensitivity could be cited. In fact, one of the most reported undesirable effects regards this problem. Other studies have evaluated pain, color improvement and duration, or patient satisfaction. Dental bleaching is a treatment that aims to improve the aesthetics of our patients; this is also reflected from a psychological point of view and therefore has effects on general health. However, the whitening treatment is not suitable for everyone and must be carefully evaluated by a specialist. This treatment also entails maintenance by the patient and therefore better compliance to normal oral hygiene procedures.
