Additive manufacturing processes offer high geometric flexibility and allow the use of new alloy concepts due to high cooling rates. For each new material, parameter studies have to be performed to find process parameters that minimize microstructural defects such as pores or cracks. In this paper, we present a system developed in Python for accelerated image analysis of optical microscopy images. Batch processing can be used to quickly analyze large image sets with respect to pore size distribution, defect type, contribution of defect type to total porosity, and shape accuracy of printed samples. The open-source software is independent of the microscope used and is freely available for use. This framework allows us to perform such an analysis on a circular area with a diameter of 5 mm within 10 s, allowing detailed process maps to be obtained for new materials within minutes after preparation.

<p>The recently completed Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) can serve as reference to evaluate current and future ocean state of the Arctic Ocean. With this premise, we perform a virtual MOSAiC expedition in historical and ssp370-scenario experiments in data generated by CMIP6 models.<br><br>The timespan covered ranges from preindustrial times (1851-1860) through present-day up to a 4K world (2091-2100). Early results using AWI-CM model, suggest that for scenario simulations a thinning of the colder surface layer and a warming of the layer between 200 and 1200 m along the MOSAiC path can be expected, while there is no significant change in temperature below this depth. Results from other models will be presented.<br><br>The Python-centric tool used for the analysis simplifies preprocessing of a pool of CMIP6 data and selecting data on space-time trajectory. It exposes an interface that is agnostic to underlying model or its grid type. Code snippets are presented along to demonstrate the tool's ease of use with a hope to inspire such virtual field campaigns using other past observations or arbitrary trajectories.</p>

The central tendon defect type of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is extremely rare and usually associated with a significant pericardial effusion. Prenatal diagnostic ultrasound features of this quite rare entity remain often overlooked or misdiagnosed. There is a dearth of literature about the role of prenatal intervention, often through an elective pericardiocentesis, for the prevention of lung hypoplasia and to decrease the overall neonatal morbidity and mortality. To the best of our knowledge, till date, there is only one case that was subjected to a prenatal intervention. Here, we present a second case of a central tendon defect type of CDH with a large pericardial effusion that was subjected to a prenatal transthoracic pericardiocentesis. Although smooth intubation and ventilation were performed immediately after birth, the infant suffered for several months from respiratory instability. Laparoscopic central tendon hernia repair was performed, and neonate was discharged home at seven months of age. Although prenatal pericardiocentesis may facilitate smoother postnatal intubation and ventilation, its broader effect on respiratory function is uncertain and still remains elusive.

It crosses boundaries between calligraphy, graphic art, typography and computer art. TYPE+CODE II reinterprets typography by combining aspects of traditional hand-drawn calligraphy with contemporary elements based on mathematical expressions and algorithms.

Building defects are a common issue associated with housing provision inMalaysia. Theoretically, new houses should be free of defects. To verify the quality of constructed housing, buildings should therefore be inspected starting from the early phases of construction up until the handing over stage. This study reveals the common building defects detected in new houses through visual inspections of 72 new terrace houses. The observed data are then analyzed using the Condition Survey Protocol system, which consists of two main assessments: condition and priority. The defects are identified and classified according to defect type, and overall results indicate that most of the common building defects in new houses are categorized as cosmetic. These defects are mainly caused by poor workmanship. To mitigate this problem, developers must ensure that the appointed builders/contractors are qualified and thorough building inspection is performed before the house being accepted.
