The Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach is an approach that links the learning materials with the real-world environment. This research was conducted by using a CTL approach in a general chemistry subject which is one of the compulsory subjects in Biology Education Program of Tarbiyah Faculty UIN Ar-Raniry. The aim of this study was to determine the increase of student learning activities after using the CTL approach to general chemistry lecturing activities. The design of this study used action classroom research. This study was conducted to the first semester students. The student amount was 31 students. The instrument used was an observation sheet of learning activity. The results was obtained that the activities of the student during the learning process in the first cycle reached 70% and increased to 90% in cycle II. This proves that the application of CTL approach can increase the learning student’s activity of Biology Education Studies in general chemistry courses.

In addition to this, other objectives, such as planning the actions and operations to be developed in Didactics; observing the development of actions and operations and monitoring the participation of students during the Didactics course were important for the analysis of their learning. For this, it was taken in consideration the theoretical foundations of Vygotsky, Leontiev, Davídov, Libâneo, Freitas, among others, which deal with questions related to the teaching-learning process. The qualitative methodology and the observation procedures were fundamental for the follow-up the involvement and the participation of the students during the accomplishment of the actions, operations, tasks and socialization of the productions. In addition, we use as drawing and texts producing that contributed to the data collection. The results indicate that, there is in the academic environment, a practice of empirical transmission of knowledge that, in turn, influences students' way of thinking, which put themselves in a situation of passivity and disbelief in relation to other possibilities of teaching and learning. Recreating these practices and engaging students in learning activity have been a possible challenge, as the organization of teaching enables students to appropriate the essence of content and to form theoretical thinking. Keywords: Developmental Teaching. Second Life is a three-dimensional virtual world which is being employed by educational institutions and training organizations to support teaching and learning. However, there is little guidance as to how 3D learning spaces should be designed to correspond to the learning activity and the learning context of the student, such as students’ skills and the nature of the program (e.g. distance education, blended learning). This chapter describes an empirical study involving Second Life educators, designers, and students, and derives guiding principles for the design of learning spaces in 3D virtual worlds. It is hoped that the guidance and examples described in this chapter will support educators and designers in designing 3D learning spaces and activities that foster students’ socialization, informal learning, collaboration, and creativity. Although, the empirical study focused on Second Life, it is hoped that the results will be applicable for 3D virtual worlds in general.
