Intra prediction is a key step in H.264/AVC to improve the coding performance with the idea that removing the directional redundancy among neighboring blocks. In order to cover more directional information existed in the image frames, there are usually many prediction modes can be selected in the state-of-the-art coding frameworks, but more bits are also needed to encode the prediction mode index information, then how to achieve the maximum overall bit-rate reduction became a problem. In this paper, 16 kinds of prediction modes are adopted by considering the direction information for 8x8 image blocks. Through calculating the bit-rate both for the mode index and residual image under different number of prediction modes, we obtain the most suitable prediction mode number relatively from the graphs. Experimental results show that, with the increase of prediction mode number, the residual information decreases obviously, and the sum of residual information and prediction mode index information also decreases but levels off after reaching a certain mode number, even has an obviously rising trend.

Variabilitas iklim dapat mempengaruhi sifat sedimen yang terendapkan di dasar laut. Salah satu sifat sedimen yang dipengaruhi oleh iklim adalah besar butir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji hubungan antara besar butir dengan variabilitas iklim menggunakan sampel core GM01-2010-TJ22 dari Muara Gembong, Teluk Jakarta, muara sungai Citarum. Sampel core diambil pada tahun 2010 dengan menggunakan Kapal Riset Geomarin I oleh Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan Geologi Kelautan (P3GL). Pengukuran besar butir dilakukan dengan menggunakan Mastersizer 2000. Hasil pengukuran ditampilkan dalam seri waktu dari tahun 2001 sampai 2010. Hasil analisis besar butir sampel sedimen dikorelasikan secara statistik dengan fenomena musiman (monsun), tahunan dan antar tahun (El Niño/La Niña dan Dipole Mode). Verifikasi data dilakukan dengan menggunakan data sekunder temperatur permukaan laut dari citra satelit di sekitar lokasi sampel dan data curah hujan di Bekasi. Hasil verifikasi menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan curah hujan di sekitar daerah hilir Sungai Citarum diikuti dengan penurunan temperatur permukaan laut dan peningkatan ukuran rata-rata besar butir. Hasil yang didapat dalam uji statistika menunjukkan bahwa perubahan ukuran besar butir sampel sedimen di Muara Gembong memiliki korelasi signifikan dengan Multivariate ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation) Index (MEI), Ocean Niño Index (ONI), Dipole Mode Index (DMI) dan Australian Monsoon Index (AUSMI). Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa besar butir sedimen dasar laut potensial digunakan untuk mengetahui variabilitas iklim di sekitar Teluk Jakarta.

Abstract This study examines the analytical and numerical solution of electromagnetic surface waves supported by a resistive metasurface-covered grounded metamaterial structure. To simulate the metamaterial, the Kramers–Kronig relation based on the causality principle is used, while the modeling of the resistive metasurface has been done by implementing the impedance boundary conditions. The analytical expressions for the field phasors of surface waves are developed for the transverse magnetic (TM) polarized mode and transverse electric (TE) polarized mode. The characteristic equations are computed for both modes, and the unknown propagation constant is evaluated numerically in the kernel. After computation, the dispersion curves, electric field profiles, effective mode index ($$N_{eff}$$ N eff ), and phase speeds ($$v_{p}$$ v p ) are presented for both the TM and TE polarized modes. To study the tunability of surface waves, the influence of the thickness of the metamaterial slab ($$d$$ d ), effective permittivity of the metamaterial ($$\varepsilon_{1}$$ ε 1 ), thickness of the resistive metasurface ($$t$$ t ), and effective permittivity of the metasurface ($$\varepsilon_{r}$$ ε r ) on all the numerical results has been studied. However, the geometrical parameters are found to be more sensitive to the effective mode index ($$N_{eff}$$ N eff ) and phase speed ($$v_{p}$$ v p ) of the surface waves. The results are consistent with the published results, which reflects the accuracy of the work. It is concluded that the appropriate choice of parameters can be used to achieve surface waves with the desired characteristics in the GHz range. The present work may have potential applications in surface waveguide design, surface wave speed controllers, surface communication devices, and light trapping configurations.
