This study aims to investigate the challenges and teaching strategies of English teachers in District Merauke. This study is a mix-method namely the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. 16 English teachers as the participants in the study from six high schools in Merauke district namely Senior High School 1 Merauke, Senior High School 2 Merauke, Senior High School 3 Merauke, Vocational High School 3 Merauke, Senior High School YPK Merauke, and MA Al-Munawwaroh. Data collection instruments used were questionnaires and interviews. Questionnaires used consisted of 40 statements and the interview consisted of 14 questions related to challenges and strategy of teaching English in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. As a result, challenges in the teaching and learning process are, especially for online learning. Mostly the students are constrained in technology facilities and motivation of students. While for the strategy in teaching English in industrial revolution era 4.0, by motivating students about the importance of English, providing variations in learning such as the use of video, audio, practice variety questions, using the online application (WhatsApp, google classroom, google translate, zoom, google meet, etc). Besides, by using discussions, question and answer directly, blended learning method, discovery learning, using image media, audio Lingual Method, TPR, GT, using voice note. Thus, by merging cognitive, affective, and psychomotor processes. Besides, for strategies in creating interesting and creative learning in the era of industrial revolution 4.0, by using jokes, games, giving advice, giving praise, and collaborating with native speakers in online learning.

Studi ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengembangkan model evaluasi kompetensi guru bahasa Inggris SMA yang dapat digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi kelebihan dan kekurangan guru dalam proses pemelajaran dan (2) mengetahui efektivitas implementasi evaluasi internal kompetensi guru bahasa Inggris SMA. Studi ini menggunakan metode penelitian dan pengembangan yang dikembangkan oleh Borg & Gall (1983, p.775). Subjek penelitian berjumlah 17 guru yang berasal dari 7 SMA di Sulawesi Selatan. Konstruk instrumen terdiri atas instrumen untuk mengevaluasi kompetensi guru bahasa Inggris dalam merencanakan pemelajaran, instrumen untuk mengevaluasi kompetensi guru dalam melaksanaan proses pemelajaran, dan instrumen untuk mengevaluai kompetensi guru dalam mengevaluasi hasil proses pemelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa instrumen yang dikembangkan dapat digunakan untuk mengevaluasi kompetensi guru bahasa Inggris. Untuk mengetahui sejauh mana tingkat efektivitas Model Evaluasi Internal Kompetensi Guru Bahasa Inggris SMA, model ini kemudian dievaluasi oleh teman sejawat guru bahasa Inggris dan guru bahasa Inggris itu sendiri. Mereka menyimpulkan bahwa komponen dari model tersebut adalah komprehensip, praktis, ekonomis, dan telah didukung oleh instrumen yang valid dan reliabel. Kata kunci: evaluasi internal, model evaluasi, kompetensi guru   INTERNAL EVALUATION MODEL OF ENGLISH TEACHERS’ COMPETENCY (IEMET) FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Abstract High School that can be used to identify the teacher’s strengths and weaknesses in learning and teaching processes and (2) find out the implementation effectiveness of the Internal Evaluation Model of English Teachers’ Competency for Senior High School. This study used research & development methods by following the pattern of phases developed by Borg & Gall (1983, p.775).  The subjects of this study were seventeen English teachers from seven Senior High Schools in South Sulawesi. The constructs of instruments consist of the instrument to evaluate English teachers’ competency in planning the materials, teachers’ competency in teaching and learning processes, and teachers’ competency in evaluating the result of teaching and learning processes. An Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA)was used to analyze he instrument. The result showed the score of  KMO- MSA (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy) > 0.5,  Bartlett’s Test of  Sphericity ≤ 0.05, and the score of items total correlation rit<0.3. Meanwhile, the analysis of rater agreement used was Generalizability  of Variants (GENOVA). The interrater correlation showed that the score of G study was > 0.70. This result shows the instruments have fulfilled the requirement to evaluate the English teacher’s competency. In order to know to what extent the effectiveness of the Internal Evaluation Model of English teachers’ competency for Senior High School, the model was then evaluated by peer and the English teacher itself. They concluded that the components of the model were comprehensive, practical, economical, and were supported by instruments that valid and reliable. STAI Tuanku Tambusai Pasir Pangaraian is a high school for Islamic religious education, which in the Teaching and Learning Process (PBM) is currently trying to apply the concept of blended learning by using e-learning. The purpose of this research is to build a Learning Management System (LMS) that can assist lecturers and students in conducting PBM with the help of computer technology. This is felt to have become a necessity during the pandemic and industrial revolution 4.0, STAI should have an e-larning that is able to answer challenges. The online learning system service architecture (e-learning) can be used as an appropriate design in the development of learning methods where the level of flexibility, scalability and functionality can make PBM easier to do anywhere and anytime. The designed online learning system (e-learning) at STAI Tuanku Tambusai is used by two actors, namely students and lecturers.

This research shows the implementation of contextual teaching and learning conducted by the English teachers of MAN 1 Enrekang in teaching English. MAN 1 Enrekang is senior high school that is located in Enrekang regency, Sulawesi Selatan, as one of the schools where most of the teachers there implement CTL method in teaching, include teaching English. However, sometimes the students still find it difficult to understand the material being taught, especially English. This research employed descriptive qualitative method, in which the data collected and analyzed qualitatively by giving description about the phenomena or facts have been found in the field. The subjects of the research were the English teachers of MAN 1 Enrekang. They are English teachers who have implemented CTL in teaching English. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the implementation of CTL method in teaching English to the students of MAN 1 Enrekang was not totally or fully conducted. There are seven elements should be applied in teaching and learning for implementing CTL. They are constructivism, inquiry, modeling, reflection, learning community, questioning, and authentic assessment. Eventhough the teachers understood and admitted implementing CTL in teaching English, the result of the observation shows that the English teachers applied only five elements of CTL in the classroom, while there were two elements of CTL those have not been applied because of the limited time in teaching and learning process, they are constructivism and inquiry. The element of CTL that was applied frequently is questioning

Online learning during the Covid 19 pandemic has developed very rapidly, but it cannot be separated from various challenges. Online learning that aims to streamline learning does not get a positive response from all students. This article aims to identify and report students' perceptions about the effectiveness of online learning amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic. In this study, data were obtained through a questionnaire consisting of 20 items were distributed to 30 respondents representatives of the three levels of education. The results of the survey were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods and percentages. The results showed that online learning was considered less effective by students. Thus the teacher is expected to need to evaluate how to teach and re-design models and approaches to be applied in learning by adjusting to the current situation of students to generate interest and willingness to learn online.

The aim of this research is to investigate and to know about the strategy of learning speaking in English teaching, because there are many problems on teaching English, namely facility, method, media, and competency of teacher, capability of teacher, willingness of teacher, management of head Master, commitment of teacher, and discipline of teacher and student’s competency. All the problems that previous above are very influence of English teaching quality, on particularly Learning Speaking, that is why the writer   ( researcher ) eager to express of sharing idea,  what happen on teaching and learning English, especially on Learning  Speaking. Various strategies is very important  on each teaching in order student does not feel bore to follow on learning English, Specially on Speaking, therefore in this opportunity the  researcher  introduce  the strategy that used  which is entitled “ Substitution and Convert  Drills“.

The purpose of the study was to find out the differences between the classroom management   performed by the senior and yunior teachers in teaching English at senior High School in Medan. This is a descriptive qualitative study. The respondents of the research were 28 English teachers of Yunior and Senior High School in Medan. Questionnaire and Observation sheet were used to collect the data on the teachers classroom management.   The result of the study shows that senior English   teachers perform more aspects of Classroom management. They  perform 18 point from 20 points aspect.. Junior English teacher get 17 point. Although senior teachers  perfom only show slightly more aspect of classromm management but for the quality of classroom management they perform better due to the longer experience of teaching. For junior English teacher they perform more enthusiastics energy, although it is clear that they have to study more on the behavior and attitude expected in the classrooms.
